People of magic from the heavens, both humans and monsters, have graced the beauty that is Heaven's greatest masterpiece. Earth. It exists in an endless void of possibilities called Space. And that is where the possibilities and other forms of living circumstances lives. An example? Angels, demons, spirits, and many others that have yet to be discovered. They exist both in space and Earth. But depending on the particular being, they exist in different dimensional planes of existence that, us living mortals, either place amongst the sky where we call "the Heavens" dwell in space. Or below the depths of the Earth where no living being can reach. Or sometimes… in an entirely different dimension altogether.
And it's the last of these options that this is where the mortals seek guidance from. The spirit realm. A realm that is vast and endless. One of the few places that can rival the vastness of space itself. And at the end of a mortal's life, their inner culmination of their very being is then taken away to the spirit realm to rest in peace. There ARE exceptions to this rule though. But that can be saved for later in the story. But for now, this is about the guides that help the living go through life and define themselves as who they are.
Spirit Animals.
They are mysterious beings that represent many meanings all in the forms of Earth's animal inhabitants. We do not for sure know that they were once living as either a person or animal. Or if they were created by the Heavens themselves to help aid us. All we know is that they are divine beings that represent our very inner selves.
In this world, there are mortals that can use magic as those foretold in legends of the medieval times. Though, with guidance from the spirits, both man and monsterkind alike have developed their powers in more advanced ways.
So, it is tradition, that when a person of magic comes of age or matures, either magically or physically speaking, they are to deeply meditate in a confined Holy room in their local temple or church. It is this that for a number of days, they undergo "The Spiritual Search". It is a ritual of when they meditate all their inner selves and that they lock their consciousness in themselves. During this state, they are more open and vulnerable to the spirits of the other worldly plane. Which can be both enlightening and dangerous. But for most cases, it comes out a success and that they get a spirit animal. It is due to the advanced precautions of the priests and spiritual people that closely watch over the procedures.
Although, and it is rare, if something goes wrong during the ritual, the summoner would automatically and immediately be put into a comatose-like state for days on end. This was the rule that the Heavens placed for the safety of their mortal children. And it would also be even more rare if a person would die during the process. But if it comes to pass, the Heavens will rescue and grant the new soul of what they would want to wish for. Consider it like a "last rites" deal. And depending on the person, the wish can vary from being taken to eternal rest in Heaven or being brought back to life. A second chance if you will. Or at least, one of them.
But usually at that time, when the summoner is helpless, the supervisors of the ritual will already take over and bring in the medical staff. Either way, as the magical person grows, sometimes the magic user will gain more spiritual guardians. It is not unusual for there to be more than one guide. For mortal beings are comprised of more than just one or two simple traits. They are filled with so many attributes that they have attained since their birth. And depending on when they first begin to mature, their soul can represent many things about the life they led so far and what could happen next.
The spirit animals are a representative of the person's character and soul. It has to do with your very physical, mental, spiritual state. Whatever animal you earn will represent what you need to change about yourself or this is "you" to a fault. They are predictors and protectors in your overall health as a living being. They are the symbols of "you" and who you are. But at the same time, counselors in your journey in life.
But sometimes, in very rare and confusing circumstances, your guide can mean more to you than you know. It is this my friends that I welcome you to Spirit Tale.
..........
It was late. Very late. And in a quiet neighborhood in the kingdom of Grendel, the capital of the spiritual phenomenon, a young platinum blonde teenager was just finishing setting up her small apartment where she will officially be living until she saves enough money to live in a decent house.
She was about five foot five. Not short but not necessarily tall for a girl her age. She had very pale white and fair skin. And she was almost turning 18 in a few months. Her icy blue orbs scanned around her room.
"Well. I think that's it for now." She huffed as she stretched and cracked her back. She looked out her bedroom window and towards the night sky.
"I hope this is the year…." She mumbled as she walked towards her bed. She climbed in and then turned off her bedside lamp. She then started at the dark ceiling in thought.
'Will this year be different?' She groaned as she covered her eyes with her forearm.
'Somehow… I doubt it.'
She said her daily prayers to the Heavens for a good year at school and of course for a guide. As she has been since she was small. She then drifted off to a deep sleep.
The Next Morning
An annoying beeping was slowly getting louder until it was now blaring in the small bedroom. The girl moaned tiredly as she blindly felt around her bedside table for the little plastic tyrant. And after she found the clock and practically smashed the off button, she slowly cracked open her eyes and got up from her blanket cocoon that she had somehow unconsciously wrapped herself in overnight. The bed head was very prevalent with her long blonde locks.
She looked out the window and saw that there was barely any light outside.
"Why do I punish myself like this…?" She groaned in frustration. She reluctantly got up from her comfy and warm bed, only for her sensitive feet to meet the cold hardwood floor. She shivered involuntarily and mumbled curses from under her breath as she sluggishly made her way to her bathroom down the hall.
It took a while but she was finally awake and fully dressed in her dark blue and black school uniform and had her mane tamed… for now. But currently, she was eating her breakfast of toast smothered with warm butter and grape jelly along with a cup of coffee.
'All at…' she looked at her microwave clock. 'Almost 6:30 a.m. in the morning…. Again. Why do I punish myself like this….?😑'
As soon as she finished her breakfast, she gathered her school supplies in her backpack, along with her lunch bag in tow, as she made her way out the door. She locked the apartment door and trudged herself to the apartment's garage building. She got in her dark blue car, started it up, and drove to her new Hel– I mean highschool.
After a short drive, she parked the car in the school's parking lot. She made her way to the front of the school, trying to avoid any attention. Too bad that wasn't the case.
Various highschoolers with phantom like animals of some sort by their side, were scattered about here and there. Of course, even in this universe where monsters and humans coexist with each other in peace and have magical powers with a spiritual guide to help them…. There is still your typical clique hierarchy.
The jocks and sports junkies with wolves, eagles, panthers, and your overly muscled meatheads. The wannabe cheerleaders, drama team, and other popular clubs with their over exaggerant, colorful, and dramatical guides. Then you have the scholars, nerds, and student council. Along with the goths and mixed genre literature clubs. All showing their unique abilities with their guides giving them advice. Then there's the outlaws….
The young teenager tilted her head in confusion. It wasn't that she couldn't find them. She easily spotted them as they hung back from everyone else… it's just that they were such a small group… and we're alone… as in… no guides?
'That's strange…' she thought to herself. But she quickly shook her head and decided to just focus on ahead to find her locker from the schedule provided by the school's office.
Time skip to lunch because I have no idea on what to do and I hated highschool.
The teenager went to her locker to get her lunch while picking little wads of paper out of her hair. Apparently some jerkwads thought it would be funny to throw them at her during math class while the teacher wasn't paying attention.
'Ugh! I'll bet anything that it was those three jocks in the back.'
She mentally grumbled as she slammed her locker door shut.
As she opened the doors to the lunchroom, she immediately noticed the once noisy room come down to a hush. She awkwardly made her way to an empty table in the corner and tried to eat her paper bag lunch in peace while the silent murmurs were quietly circulating around her. Obviously trying to assess what sort of person and clique she might be. The guides of the other students though… they… just stared her down… as though she were something otherworldly. Which was something.
'Great… not even a whole day and I'm already being a circus show to both the living AND nonliving.'
It wasn't till a quiet cough that was coming from beside her that got her attention that she noticed some really friendly faces. It took her a second, but it finally dawned on her that the "outlaws" were talking to her. Or trying to at least. The one that got her attention was a short blonde that had a Marylyn Monroe hairstyle with some red white modern styled 1930's clothes. She had showy makeup on and pearly white teeth that could be the star picture of perfect teeth. If it wasn't for her bright tangerine orange eyes, she would've mistaken her to be one of the popular girls. She was really pretty but looked like she wouldn't hurt a fly.
“Gotcha attention yet? Hi. Nice to meet ya, I’m Lottie Raymond.” She greeted her brightly.
The cheerful blonde had a bit of a southern twang in her voice. It wasn't annoying or anything. In fact it just made her even cuter than she already was. The teenager realized that she was staring too long and blushed in embarrassment. She held her hand out to shake.
"H-Hello. My name is Dianna. Dianna Williams. I'm new here. Who're your friends?" She motioned to the others beside the blonde.
A rather tall silver haired girl with black rimmed glasses stepped up. "Hello. My name is Sabella Wong. The brains of the group. Lottie here is our mascot." She smirked at a pouting short blonde.
“I’m not just a mascot… I’m the best mascot!!” She laughed with humor and confidence.
A snickering brunette male made his presence known. "Well, at least she owned up to it this time!" He laughed. "Hi. I'm Roland Davis. The ONLY male in the group. And NO! That doesn't make me a perv or a gay!" He stated firmly as the girls snickered, including Dianna.
The next one was a very dark skinned girl with long red hair. Dianna looked closely. She couldn't tell whether her hair was dyed that way or not. It looked so natural. The girl seemed to notice her stare and laughed.
"As to whether I dyed my hair… I'll never tell~. Hah! Regardless, my name is Ember Hathaway." She had a strange accent. It was like a mix of British and Native African. Unique, exotic, and enticing. She was a bit of a looker as well. All of them were so far. Why were they shunned? They looked awesome.
But before Dianna could continue her thoughts, two girls that almost looked identical looked right at her in the eyes. Or at least, the one with short bright neon blue hair with light green highlights. The other one was shyly looking from behind her. She had long neon pink hair with dark purple highlights. And both of them had tanned skin, small build, and we're about a head taller than Lottie. They also had large doe-like dark amber eyes. To say that they were cute would be an understatement. One would question if they were actually in highschool. But then that person would look at Lottie and say, "Nevermind."
"May I ask for you two's names?" Dianna asked. The blue haired one proudly grinned and put her hands on her hips.
“I was hoping you would ask! I’m Levi!” She replied with an air of confidence. “And that…” She looked at the pink haired one. “Is my twin sister, Virgo! We are the Everest twins!”
The pinkette shuffled from her spot behind her sister. "I-I'm… Virgo. Hello." She quietly peeped. Dianna wanted to squeal at these two's antics. But she kept her fangirling inside. A brave act.
"Hello. It's nice to meet you two! Do you guys want to sit here or something?" She asked the group. Lottie beamed with delight.
“Aw hell yeah!!!” Levi cheered.
“What she means is this is usually our table anyway, but we are more than happy to share and make new friends.” Lottie replied.
Dianna chuckled. She moved over so they would have some room to sit. When they all sat at the table, the murmurs only grew more fierce. Dianna also noticed the stares they were getting were a little… disturbing and uncomfortable. At least to Dianna. The group with her didn't seem to mind. Yet.
Ember noticed Dianna's discomfort and gave her hand a reassuring squeeze. "Don't worry about them. If they try something, we'll help out."
Dianna nodded and tried eating the rest of her lunch in peace. But it was no longer than five minutes that some of the jocks came strutting up their way.
"Speak of the trash." Roland bitterly muttered.
"What was that bug?!" The head of the jocks snarled at him. He just kept his mouth shut while they sneered. "I thought so."
"What're you doing here Jason?" Sabella questioned with a glare. He just smirked. "Well I was wondering why such a cute blondie was sitting with a bunch of "no helps"." He chided. Lottie was getting impatient.
“Jason you know I won’t tolerate that kind of attitude towards my friends so just buzz off back to yours.” She made shooing motions with her hands.
He narrowed his eyes at her. "And why should I? You finally going to "woman up" and give me your first? Oh wait, you don't have your guide yet. NONE of you do! Hah!" He snarked loudly. His two followers snickered and you could barely hear the other laughs and comments from around the room.
