The dimly-lit forest did nothing to help them see anything. Raising her machete, Jen charged forward with pure determination plastered on her face. Alex followed, and lastly Sarah, who was shrieking like a banshee. Jen's machete hit something feathery. Tough, but feathery.

Jen immediately pulled back. "Torchlight!" she shouted, and Alex dug into his bag to retrieve the item. He hurled it in Jen's direection and she neatly caught it despite the darkness. But the huge creature swung the torchlight out of her grasp at the speed of light, before knocking all three of them out with a single blow from its humongous wing, or whatever that was.

Then everything went black.
