So none of the feelings shown are in anyway invalid. There are people who’ve experienced this kind of struggle and discrimination for wanting to break out of gender norms. However, I can’t help but feel frustrated. I feel like I see so many more “cis men who want to wear pretty clothes” characters than actual trans characters. Like you can want to be pretty and not be trans! That’s cool! But why the fuck are trans characters and storylines passed over so often? I’m probably venting more frustration than this comic in particular deserves and I certainly still love it, but I’m just so fucking tired.
It also remains to be seen if Xav is trans or gender-nonconforming, but the latter seems much more likely at this point.
As the top freshman at Brilliant Minds High, Sadie Cang is surrounded by students who admire her brilliance, yet she lacks a single real friend. Fellow student Lex Qi has long since accepted her own hopeless, "dead last" title, along with everyone’s aversion to her seemingly contagious tendency to fail. Although they were both prepared to go through high school in these lonely roles, a silly rumor forced them together. Will an imperfect pairing form the perfect bond they never knew they wanted?
