Soo-Yun hurried outside. She felt as if she was about to suffocate inside the classroom. As if she was haunted by nightmares, she wandered without a place in mind. It did not matter where she was going, as long as she was far from that place, it was going to be fine.
‘Why… why after all this time… he comes back again!’ Soo-Yun found herself wondering over and over about this question
When Daewon asked her if he did something to her, how could she ever reveal that she was the one that did something wrong to the boy. If it were for her to reveal that she knew Cheonsa from her early childhood, and that she was the one that turned his life to a living hell, how would her friends react?
‘He came here to get his revenge on me, I’m certain of it!’ the girl muttered as she started to run
She was running as if her life depended on it. As if she felt her world starting to end, in all her rush, she fell to the ground with a loud bang. She ached in pain as she looked down at her knees, she started bleeding. As if the day wasn’t already bad, now she hurt her knees, when she knew that any injury could be damaging for her career.
As she dragged her body to the nearest bench, a memory started to unravel before her eyes. She started her dream of becoming a ballerina when she was 6 years old, she started training in a small city that didn’t have any opportunities for the future. This was the main reason as to why she moved cities: to have a chance to achieve her dream.
Like her, many children's came to try the same dream as she had. When she was 8 years old, a new boy came to join the ballet. He was so small compared to everyone around him that his body was overshadowed by each individual. While everyone was on their own, practicing hard for their dreams, Soo-Yun was the first one to approach the new boy.
‘Hello, I’m Soo-Yun. What’s your name?’
‘Cheonsa.’ the boy smiled. ‘Do you want to be friends?’
‘I would love to!’ Soo-Yun replied
That was the start of their friendship. While Soo-Yun had a bit more experience than him, she could explain to him moves when he didn’t quite understand them and helped him become better. It didn’t take long for them to become classmates in school.
Like that, they continued to be friends for the following years. They spent almost the whole day together. When they weren’t at school, they were training at the ballet academy, and when they weren’t there, they enjoyed their free time.
On a summer day, while the two of them were enjoying their free time, eating ice cream and looking at the scenery.
‘Soo-Yun, what would you want to do in the future? Do you have any dream except for becoming the greatest in ballet?’ Cheonsa asked, and the girl bursts out laughing
‘Why do you think I will become the greatest in ballet? There’s no way I could achieve that! There are so many more people that have greater chances of achieving that, it’s not like someone like me could achieve that.’
Cheonsa shook his head: ‘For me, you’re the greatest ballerina! No one could be better than you.’
‘Well, then I think I have to thank you for thinking so highly of me?’ she paused for a moment ‘If it were to respond to your question, well, I never thought of what I will do after achieving my dream. I will think of my next move when it’s time. What about you?’
He didn’t hesitate in his response: ‘I will teach ballet! No matter what, I will continue with this dream! Do you want to know why I want to do this?’
Soo-Yun didn’t know the answer as to why the boy wanted to become a teacher, so she leaned over and waited for his response.
‘It’s because of you.’
That was the moment where Soo-Yun realized her impact on the boy’s life. That simple gesture of her, that moment when she began being friends with him and teaching him all she knew. This was when he started seeing life in other colors.
‘Soo-Yun, I’ve been meaning to say this to you for the longest time.’ he turned around and looked into her eyes, ‘I like you. I like you very much. To the point where I can’t see my life without being with you.’
Soo-Yun stuttered for a moment in her reply. She never expected that he would confess his feelings this way, as she never expected him to love her. For a moment, she blamed herself because she didn’t feel the same as the boy. For her, the only feeling towards the boy was friendship.
‘Cheonsa… I appreciate your feelings. It’s just… I never expected it.’ her voice cracked. ‘I would love to tell you that… our feelings are the same… but…’
The boy interrupted her. ‘Don’t say it. I get it.’
From that moment on, things between them got awkward. The boy never interacted with her, trying to ignore her as much as he could. Soo-Yun didn’t know how to react to him, nor how to resolve this problem. For a time, she blamed herself, maybe if she lied about her feelings, it wouldn’t have gone to this extent.
Her guilt was only beginning to grow, as soon, she found herself facing another problem that put a lot more pressure on her. One day, when they had a small rehearsal of one play, Cheonsa got hurt. It was a foolish way he managed to get hurt, but the extent of his wound was so great that it led him to end this career, as he could never do ballet again.
‘It’s all your fault, Soo-Yun. I hate you, I truly hate you.’ Cheonsa spoke with anger towards the girl. ‘If you never came into my life, this wouldn’t have happened!’
His words hurt the girl so much, to the point where she couldn’t find the power to remain in the same city as him. So, she moved to another city, where she hoped she could erase her past, but, as it was soon revealed, you can’t run away from your past.
