“Jeesh Kam! What did the poor guy even do to you? Lucas left for one second and you couldn’t even control yourself.” The tall boy sighed in disappointment and shook his head.
Kamari rolled her eyes at the tall boy but didn’t answer. It seems like the arrival of the tall boy washed off the fury of the other girl. The cloud of anger in her purple-bluish eyes vanished and her face turned blank. Kamari let go of the boy’s wet uniform and started walking away from the bleachers and towards the tall boy.
Everyone was silent as they watched her, the squeaking of her shoes were the only sounds in the gym besides the distant talking of the people in the storage room. Kamari threw the basketball she was carrying at her tall male look alike and he caught it. She then turned her back towards him to stare back at the students watching her. Kamari folded her arms with a bored expression on her face, her purple-bluish eyes half closed and her posture relaxed.
“You need to learn how to mind your own business, new girl,” Kamari warned, her purple-blueish eyes meeting with Monique’s own purple-reddish eyes before moving on to the wet boy. “And I’m also letting you off with a warning. Don’t you ever say her name around me again unless you're looking for some trouble.” Kamari spat out in disgust towards the wet boy.
“Come on Jacob, we’re leaving. I'm not in the mood to play basketball right now." Kamari grabbed Jacob by the collar and dragged him out of the gym before he could utter a word of refusal or one of agreement.
For a moment nobody spoke or moved, and just stared at the door Kamari and the tall boy had left through.
“Welp, I’m glad that's over. Let’s go shoot some hoops.” One of the students said, breaking the silence.
“Yeah, let's go!” The other players cheered, triggering the other students to start moving and go back to their own activities. Soon the gym was filled with the squeaks of shoes on the shiny floor, the basketball bouncing around on the ground and the conversations of everyone on the bleachers besides Monique, the male student and his friend.
Monique's jaw dropped as she watched the other students go back to their lives like nothing ever happened. She frowned at the other students but turned her head to the male student Kamari was bothering before.
“Hey, are you alright?” Monique asked him, her purple-reddish eyes narrowed in concern as she dug out a napkin out of her pocket and offered it to him.
He nodded, accepting the napkin and dabbing the paper over his soiled uniform.
"I'm fine. In fact I'm really lucky!" The boy chuckled nervously. "Kamari doesn't usually let people off so easily but she tends to calm down when any of her gang members are around."
"Just because she let you off doesn't make it okay you know? She was going to hurt you!" Monique face palmed herself with her hand and shook her head." I also don't understand why nobody tried to stop her or get an adult to intervene!"
"New girl, you just have to accept that that is the way things are around here." The friend of the male student said." Students don't want to get involved in things that will hurt them, their family's reputation or offend another family that they can't afford to offend."
"So what about Kamari? Won't it hurt her family's reputation if she messes with other kids like this?" Monique gestures to the male student with the wet uniform.
"Most of the students can't afford to offend Kamari's family. Even her goons get a free pass since they hang out with her." Both the male student and his friend look at each other and shrug their shoulders.
"What happens if she goes too far or gets violent? Does everyone still shrug it off and go about their business?" Monique furrowed her eyebrows trying to understand why the students just sit on the sidelines and mind their business.
"Well her gang is good at calming her down before she can hurt somebody, but in case they aren't around then someone informs the student council president." The friend told her. "There is nobody at Pandora Hill Academia who can pass the Roseburgs. I mean Councilman Roseburg is the founder of this school, the father of Headmistress Roseburg and the grandfather of both our student council president and the school’s sweetheart."
"We are bugs compared to the Roseburgs. Trying to retaliate against them is just asking to get squashed." The male student added with a sigh.
Monique gaped at the two students, eyes widened in surprise. When she first heard of Headmistress Roseburg and Katrine Roseburg, she thought their last names sounded familiar! Monique knew that Pandora Hill Academia was founded by a wealthy person but she didn't expect that wealthy person to be a council member! She watched the news from time to time and if the news anchor wasn't commenting about the war going on between the other countries then it was Councilman Roseburg giving speeches and being the spokesperson for the rest of the council. Anytime Monique tuned in, Councilman Roseburg was reassuring the public that their country would not get involved in the wars of the other countries and how nobody would be forced to aid foreigners who escaped the war and are looking for asylum.
It also got on her nerves seeing the handsome gray haired older man smile brightly on the screen fully knowing that he is enabling the abuse and mistreatment of humans who had just escaped countries ridden with war!
"Please tell me that the student council president actually does something about bullying and violence and doesn't just ignore it." Monique said, not wanting to assume the worst of the student council president just because her grandfather was councilman Roseburg and the only man Monique deeply despised in the world.
"Of course! Katrine does not tolerate any type of bullying or violence! If you have a problem, just let Katrine know and she'll do her best to fix it!" The weeping girl from earlier butted into the conversation with a joyful expression causing the other three students to jump and stare at her.
“That’s good…to know.” Monique was taken off guard when the girl interrupted their conversation. Unlike the two other students, she quickly adjusted to the newcomer and gave the girl a smile.
“Yep! I know everything about Katrine! So if you're ever curious, you can always ask me about her and I’ll most likely have an answer!” The fangirl said with a confident smile and her voice filled with pride.
The two male students rolled their eyes but Monique nodded her head in agreement with the fangirl. A smirk then slid across her face unnoticed by the three students around her as the two male students started to complain while the fangirl tried to defend herself. At the moment Monique was more interested in learning more about the missing students rather than learning more about Katrine or the Roseburg family in general.
The missing students' situation was only known to the students of the school with the public being unaware that anything had happened within the walls of Pandora Hill Academia. Which was very strange to her considering that not just one student went missing but multiple students from well off families had disappeared at a prestigious boarding school that not just anyone could enroll in. Monique felt that something was going on with the students of Pandora Hill Academia and the school itself and she was determined to figure it out.
