While the kingdom was still in an uproar over the King. A certain small, cheery, and cozy looking diner was situated within the busy gloomy streets on the Negatives side. Within it was a busy waitress serving impatient customers their meals. And though some of those customers were just rude to her and making inappropriate passes on her, she still served with a smile. But not without shooting a few venom filled remarks and threats after they paid for the food.
This woman was tan skinned, had bright blonde curly and wavy short hair, had crystal sky blue eyes, and had a personality that could light a room up. This woman's name was Sunny Auroris. Owner/waitress/and sometimes chef, of The Sunnyside Up Diner. She and a handful of people that she managed to recruit slave the day away serving the populace their mouthwatering food.
Though there was one side job that Sunny had that she kept a secret. Only known to two people. One was her manager/friend David. He has a sketchy job of going back and forth between kingdoms. The other was her friend and coworker Meredith Springs. A sassy and sharp tongued redhead that often got herself into trouble with bar fights. She was also an expert computer genius and could hack into a mainframe like it's nobody's business. She also helped Sunny with her diner and side job. And what is this side job you say? Well... she is the infamous thief, Lux Furem. Also known as the Light Thief.
She has been known as the Dream verse's "Robin Hood" for the people that were stuck in the slums and back alley ways of the Negatives' side. She'd sneak into the rich's and aristocrats' homes and steal stuff that they wouldn't bother noticing it was gone. At first. But as soon as her reputation picked up the grander the heists. At first she did it for the sake of the poor and orphaned. But now that included peeving off the rich that she stole from as an added bonus for the day. Meredith would help by sneaking her in and out of the target's house and David would be the one giving her the info on which house or in this case, mansion, to hit next.
But at the moment, she wasn't doing her side job. No... she was currently handling a cranky father to be with his, uncomfortable to be with him now, wife.
"Sir, for the last time. I didn't know that your wife was allergic to paprika. Though as she stated before, it would've only caused her a slight upset stomach. She said it wasn't that ba----"
Before she could further calm down the man and offer him a free meal. He rudely interrupted.
"And I told you before, I don't give a damn! You still gave her that shit, now I want a fucking refund!" He snapped, still obviously in a foul mood. He'd paid for good food and good service, and all he got was this dump. 'Was what he probably thought.' Sunny grimaced with a fake twitching closed eye smile. "Sir." He looked to glare at another waitress, only to get a lap full of drinks and an "apologetic" smile. "Oops, I'm sorry about that." Anyone could tell that Meredith was less than apologetic and was itching to give this idiot his just desserts. He slammed his hands down on the table (like a drama queen) and shot up. "You little-" It was his turn to be cut off now as she mimicked him with a hand, further pissing him off. He was done. He swung the first punch, to which she ducked, being the more experienced one, and made a jab at his abdomen.
By now Sunny carefully escorted the heavily distressed pregnant wife to the back room while they duked it out.
Eventually Meredith kicked and promptly threw his sorry ass out of the Diner. And by this time Sunny had called for the authorities to handle the rude man and escort the wife home while her family took care of her while he probably was going to stay the night at the local jailhouse. To say that the Diner was closed for today was an understatement.
"Well... just another day." Sunny sighed tiredly. Stretching her back, earning a few pops. She then turned her attention to a battered Meredith on the bar stool. She sighed.
"You know I could've handled it without you getting hurt...." Sunny tiredly pointed out while she applied band-aids and ointment to Meredith's cuts and bruises.
"I know.. But what are besties for, if not to beat up rude pricks like him?" She smirked, tilting her head a small bit.
Sunny applied ointment to the slowly forming bruise on her neck and then proceeded to wrap it lightly with some gauze. "Well next time leave the ass kicking to me." Sunny smirked at her as she was putting away the medical supplies.
"We'll see." She giggled. "Depends on if you still wanna kick ass." She slid off her seat and flinched at the movement. "Or if I'll be able to kick it next time.."
"David came by earlier today." Sunny casually mentioned. Meanwhile Meredith flinched. Sunny knew she had a huge crush on the tall brunette male. And she couldn't help but smirk and chuckle lightly.
"As to whether he mentioned YOU or not.... I don't know.... Should I~?" Sunny teased with a hip popped out to the side.
"Sun, don't tease! Tell me, I need to know!!!" She pleaded. "I'll be good, please?"
She chuckled at the redhead's pleading. "Okay. He visited to give me a job. But he may or may not have been staring at you while you were working. ESPECIALLY when you were bending down~" she deviously made a feline-ish smug face that seemed to read and tell all.
Meredith's face went bright red, comparable to that of a cherry. "H-He did?!" She stammered and sputtered, trying and failing to calm down and form the rest of that sentence.
If it was even possible, Sunny's grin stretched further. Her face was now in competition with the Cheshire Cat.
"We have camera footage if you wanna see~?" She giggled deviously.
"YES! No.. maybe.." She fidgeted and wrung her hands as she avoided eye contact.
Sunny now full on cackled like a hyena. "Well maybe after the mission goes well... I can give you the tape~?" Sunny mischievously bargained.
"DEAL-" She cried before she could stop herself. She was quick to cover her mouth.
But it was too late. She practically made a deal with the she-devil herself. You can practically see the imaginary little horns and tail growing out of her as she made a toothy grin.
Meredith groaned. "What have I done.."
Sunny cackled once more but louder. Once she calmed down from her giggle fits, she brought forward a vanilla envelope that held the target's info. There was a note on the envelope that said that this was a request from some important people and to tread carefully.
'Again. Where does David find these people and I hardly take requests. What's so special about this o---'
Sunny stopped her mind-mental rant as she was opening it and saw the symbol. The Venom Fists.
Why in Hell's name would he even THINK that she would accept this request?! She hated them with a passion! She lost a lot of people that meant a lot to her over the years thanks to them.
She held the papers in clenched fists. Almost at the brink of tearing. Meredith was looking at her with concern.
"Hey, hey.. You ok there? Sunny?" She touched her shoulder in an attempt at comfort. She was confused about why she was so upset and was about to ask, till she saw the symbol on the strained paper.
"O-oh.. oh shit.." She paled, now understanding her friend's reaction. She managed to pry the letter from Sunny. She was more than curious to see what the Venom Fists wanted from them. Opening it carefully, she read over the contents, paling even further (and likely rivaling Raven's pale complexion.) "Oh my-" She didn't have the words. Could they pull THIS off?
Sunny sucked in a deep breath to calm her raging nerves. "I'm not so sure about this one..." she said hesitantly.
"Me either... This seems impossible... and dangerous." Meredith replied uncharacteristically nervous. "Stealing from the King of negativity? It can't be done."
Sunny sighed and held her forehead in her hand. "No... it CAN be done. A lot of planning and precision on my part. But it can be done. And honestly.... If it was any other place but THERE... I wouldn't care about the danger level. It's WHO I'm stealing from is what's bothering me..." she said in a sad and broken tone.
"I get that..." She gave a slightly inquisitive look. "Though I thought you'd sound more.. Terrified or something? It IS King Nightmare."
Sunny gave a slight chuckle. "Pshhh, I'm not scared of him. Being scared of him is like being scared of a hissing cat. And just as awkward too." She laughed at the thought of a gloopy black cat hissing in a Mexican standoff with its owners over a toy mouse.
"Awkward? Would it be that awkward to you? I'd be scared shitless if I was caught by him." She admitted. She'd heard the stories of what he did before the universe was reborn. She wasn't ready to die yet. How could Sunny laugh over a matter like this one?
Sunny could see the confused and terrified look on her friend's face and couldn't help but snort in amusement.
"Don't snort at me! This isn't funny! It's serious, I'm scared for you!"
Sunny gave her a sympathetic look and then sighed. "I'm guessing you want some answers to why I'm like this?"
"Yes actually, you should be scared not... whatever that is." She gestured to Sunny's nostalgic and amused expression.
Sunny seemed to look out of place for a second but then replied, "He saved me Merry. He saved me back when I was a kid..." she said thinking back to that day in the darkest pits of Negativity's side in a closed off alleyway.
{FLASHBACK TO 12 YEARS AGO}
Sunny thought back to that day when she was only a twelve year old tike and living off the streets around the darkened areas of the city. She was starving that day and she had no money to get any food. So she had to steal from a nearby market. Not the first time it happened. It wouldn't be the last either. But that time was different. After she stole the food and was retreating back to her hobble, she instantly picked up that she was being followed.
She tried not to show panic. But with all the frantic thoughts blinding her way of thinking, she accidentally ran into a closed off alleyway. She then reluctantly turned to her pursuers who were looking at her like predators to prey.
"Heya kitten, strayed into the wrong part of the negative side, eh? Give us that food and you'll be free to go. If not, my boys and I get to rough you up a little... maybe more."
He hummed, licking his lips. The boys in question had fanned out, blocking any sort of exit. They could be compared to excited dogs about to be released on a rabbit. By this time Sunny was terrified and was about to possibly use her "secret weapon" which she only reserved for emergencies.
"that is absolutely disgusting. a child? really?"
