We finished our dessert and placed the empty dessert tray and plates on the food cart.
"Thank you, my lady, for the sweets."
Tanya curtsied towards me to show her appreciation.
"It really is no problem, Tanya. I will give you sweets and other things if you request them, as long it is within my power."
"Thank you again, my lady. I really cannot thank you enough."
"There is no need, after all, you are my personal maid and guard."
I let a wry smile slip past. Tanya smiled back and pushed the cart away from the table.
"My lady, I will take this down to the imperial kitchen. I will be back shortly."
Ah, the imperial kitchen! One of the places I would've liked to visit if I was reincarnated into this novel. It was described as a chef's heaven, for many of the latest stoves and technologies were in that kitchen. There were a variety of cooking tools, dishes being made, ingredients and spices being stored and made within the kitchen. Maybe when I have free time, I will ask Tanya to take me down there so I can watch the imperial chefs cook for the king~.
"Yes, Tanya, I will see you later. Make sure to re-brush your teeth afterwards! Your oral health is important."
Tanya looked back at me one more time and turned to walk out of the room. She shut the door as she left the room. As soon as her footsteps disappeared, I quickly rummaged the drawers for a quill and some paper.
"Let's write down everything I can remember from this light novel, before I forget..."
I pulled out 5 sheets of thick paper, two quills, and a jar of ink.
"Now then, let's get to work, quickly... Before Tanya comes back to help Priscilla get ready for bed..."
◦○◐◑○◦
After [about] 10 minutes, I had finished writing everything down. I spread out all of my work across the desk.
First off, some important things I should clarify is what this world even is...
This world is a world full of many magical creatures, different races, and magical power.
It's your classic fantasy setting that I've been reincarnated into... There are dungeons around the world, and if you capture one, many hidden riches and treasures, and even power, await those who are willing. Many people (with little to no wealth) test out their luck within these dungeons. It's very dangerous because these dungeons are teeming to the brim with man-eating creatures. If you overcome these trials, then many great things will await you. From what I remember, only around 20 people have captured a dungeon, 5 of them being influential people from other countries (besides this one). If you clear a dungeon, the "voice of the worlds" will ring out and announce the people that have cleared that dungeon.
Even if you're not aiming for the dungeon, you can still explore the world and make a living elsewhere, for the travel laws in this world are very flexible towards travelers. There are little to no laws restricting travelers in this world.
Next, I will clarify what magic is in this world.
In order to utilize it, you have to have a magi-core (right around the solar plexus) to draw in the surrounding mana (or magoi, as they call it in the Saharan country). The 5 base elements are water, earth, nature, wind, and fire⋇, these being the most common elements anyone can wield. The 7 great nations all have a main base element (i.e. this country Priscilla is from. Then, there are miscellaneous elements (i.e. light, darkness, time control, transformation magic, invisibility, teleportation, etc.). Miscellaneous elements are not as hard to find as the base elements, but some abilities (such as controlling time, invisibility, mind control, etc.) are much harder and rarer for people to find/wield.
The third thing I should think about are the side effects of using too little or too much magic.
If you strain your magic too much [or use too little], you have the chance to gain a condition called "magic deficiency". *It is a condition where a person is losing mana quickly before they can recover/make up the lost mana. If they don't take a break from using magic or find a way to recover the lost mana quickly, then they will develop "magic's last word". "Magic's last word" is when your mana-core is on the verge of breaking or has already been broken. This is a very deadly condition only 1 out of 10 people who contract "magic's last word" survive. Around 9 out of 10 people actually die because they couldn't find a way to recover their lost mana or couldn't take a break from using magic. Once your mana core breaks, the mana doesn't have a place to go/be stored. It finds a way to escape, creating a dangerous surge of mana flowing through the body. The body can't handle an unnatural surge of mana, so the heart works harder to pump blood around your body to stabilize your condition. The sudden influx of mana and blood rushing to your brain will cause "overflow" (extra blood and mana in the body than necessary). After you reach the stage of "overflow", you will have an instant death. The blood will start to rush out of any opening (i.e. your nose, ears, mouth, etc.). The sudden loss of blood is what causes most deaths. In extreme cases, the body will even explode, only leaving scattered remains (body parts) and blood at the scene.
Still don't get it? Here's an example:
Priscilla has an aptitude for magic, but she hasn't practiced/focused much at all on her magic and magi-core during the past year due to her [crazy] plots to screw over Yuan. Due to that, Priscilla developed magic deficiency*. Because of that, her mana-core was on the verge of cracking, or in the worst case scenario, her mana-core will break and disappear completely. If her mana-core breaks, the best outcome is that Priscilla will never be able to use magic ever again. The worst possible thing happening is Priscilla dying (because of her stupidity) due to the sudden surge of mana and blood to her brain, overwhelming it... But I can worry about gaining more mana later.
The fourth thing I should recall are the different races, biomes, countries, and creatures within this world.
Since this is a fantasy world, there are definitely bound to be very different things about it.
On earth, there are no elves or dark elves, dwarves, mer-folk (mermaids), lizard people, *newtlings (descendants of dragons that bred with humans), Udugs (demons), (etc.) or magical and mystical powers. The only thing that set earth [and this world] apart are the advanced technologies and scientific and medical achievements that were made. The technology, medical, and science advancements are quite lacking. The only major game changer for this world are healers. That role is mainly taken by priests, sisters (nuns), and those in the medical field. There is alchemy (brought it/invented by a 1st generation [summoned] hero) that (sort of) makes up for the lack of scientific achievements. The biomes and habitats of this world are (obviously) different.
The biomes of this world are: Sahara of Death (desert), Grass hill plains (grasslands), Ocean of Duchy Crisis (marine), The Icy Wastelands (tundra), Garden of Lich (mangrove/swamp), and Forest of the Real World (temperate forest).
Many races are scattered throughout these biomes, but certain races will gather in the biome they have the most tolerance to. It can also depend on their natural affinity to a certain [base] element.
⫸ [Forest/Nature/Light] Elves will live in the Forest of the Real World biome because of their natural affinity to nature. They rely on nature to help with their daily lives. They co-exist with nature itself and the ecosystems around them. Most elves are vegetarian because there is an abundance of fruit and agriculture within their forests. They don't have to rely on meat or any fish or birds as steady food sources (unlike us humans). Their senses of sight, hearing, strength, and smell are heightened (thanks to their features). Their iconic ears are pointed, which makes their hearing much more sensitive than a normal human's. Their eyes are green, reflecting nature... They spend their time [mostly] outside. Their training that they undergo is what enhances their strength. Elves mainly utilize bows and arrows, along with crossbows. They work with nature a lot as well, so their sense of smell is used to recognize different plant scents. They can't stand the smell of blood, rotting corpses, and meat... So they prefer to stay away from any violent activities or eat meat. Only when times are desperate and there are food shortages, they will hunt and eat meat (mainly birds, rodents, and small critters [like foxes or boars]).
⫸ Dark elves will live in the Sahara of Death because of their affinity to earth. They burrow into the earth [sand] and only come out at night. Their enhanced traits are just about similar to their forest elven counterparts, except their sight is even better and they are much stronger. Their sense of smell is less sensitive than the forest elves, though. (They still have their iconic features; pointy ears...) Their skin is either black or [a little fairer] purple. Their eyes are yellow instead of green. For food, despite their [forest] elven counterparts, they are omnivores and will eat just about anything they can eat/come across. Their skin is a dark color from staying out in the sun for so long (when necessary; like for scavenging for food, hunting for day creatures, etc.). They mainly hunt at night because more creatures come out and the temperatures are cooler.
⫸ Dwarves are master craftsmen who live on mountains (near the Icy Wasteland biome). Due to their [rather short] stature, they prefer staying up in the mountains. (Dwarves also can't swim, so they tend/try to stay away from any bodies of water.) They love to make furniture, weapons, magical items, clothes, anything that can be made. Their skills are genuine. Any other black smith or craftsman that could compare to dwarves are less to none (unless their master was a dwarves or they are very talented in their craft). They have hermit tendencies and genuinely dislike greedy and corrupt races (i.e. humans, and very rarely any other race; unless they know that certain creature/individual is corrupt). Some dwarves (though very rarely) do have a nasty temper. It's better to tread carefully with how you treat them until you get to know them better. For items and goods, I read that it's very hard to request an item to be made from them unless they have already made it, are willing to sell it, know you personally/like your personality/trust you, or have a recommendation from someone they trust. They are omnivores (although some dwarves have a stronger preference for meat). They love a good drink (mainly beer) to go with their food. As long as the food tastes good, they aren't very picky eaters. They love to eat and chat with others, and have a [rather] voracious appetite (especially after a long, hard day at work).
⫸ Lizard men/women live in the Garden of Lich. Like the mer-folk (mermaids), they have an affinity to water. They are mainly carnivores, but in times of famine may resort to cannibalism. Rarely, there are some omnivores. Lizard men/women will mainly eat the creatures that live in the swamp-like biome. They are also not very picky (like dwarves). For combat, they [mainly] utilize spears for battles and hunting. They are a military based⋇⋇ race where the young are trained to become warriors to protect their clans. (They don't discriminate.) They usually try to avoid contact with the other races unless for diplomatic reasons or war. Their clan elders formed a council⋇⋇⋇ to maintain peace with the tribes. Other than those small interactions, they mainly live in clans. They are similar to newtlings* and are also descendants of dragons and wyverns.
⫸ Humans will live just about anywhere and are scattered throughout the world. As long as the land is [some-what] habitable and living conditions are tolerable. But if you want to find the largest concentration of humans (or every race), they usually live in the Forest of the Real World and [near] the Grass hill plains.
⫸ Hybrids (such as newtlings), like humans, are scattered around the world. Those that are human [mixed with other creatures] hybrids, are often discriminated against...
"My lady, what are you doing?"
I flinched and slowly brought my head up.
Tanya was standing near me.
"Oh- OH-! T-Tanya."
I quickly try to hide the papers but Tanya quickly snatched some off the desk.
"My lady..."
"Y-Yes?!"
I shivered. I hope Tanya didn't snatch the papers about me talking about Priscilla's disease!!!
"Who knew you were so knowledgeable about the biomes and the other races in this world?"
"A-Ah! I was doing some research at school for a project! Haha!"
I was quickly shuffling papers behind my back. As long as the paper with Priscilla's disease wasn't on the top!!!
Tanya just sighs and goes over to put the papers back with the stack.
"Give then to me, my lady. I will straighten them out for you."
I gingerly hand them over. Tanya puts the papers she snatched with the papers that were on the desk together. She walks over to the desk and straightens them. She pauses and stares at the stack of papers for a moment. Tanya sets them down but notices all of the crumbled up papers and ink sprawled all over the desk. She shoots me a dark look.
"My lady, let me see your hands."
I brought out my hands from behind my back. My hands where stained with ink... Why are quills so hard to use?!
Tanya sighed again and said, "My lady, go clean your hands and I will take care of the mess on the desk."
I nodded and backed way slowly.
"Yes, Tanya... I will do as you say."
