The Godling Sagas: A Realm Reborn

The Early Years

The Early Years

May 30, 2022

When Charlemagne blinked his eyes he was somewhere else in the arms of a beautiful woman being held like a baby. As his eyes wandered he noticed that he was a baby seemingly newly born being held by his own mother most likely. He noticed that she looked human however there were subtle details in her appearance that a trained eye could always tell did not belong to a normal human. Her bright red eyes and fiery red hair was accented by her scars on her forehead where demon horns may once have been or maybe concealed beneath. Her dark chocolate skin had a beauty to it that seem supernatural. He already knew what she really was, after all he got pick. He did not struggle and he did not resist as he allowed her to hold him accepting this new life. All while hoping he could fulfill his promise and save the future.

He knew that growing up was going to be odd considering that he very much so remembered his past life. Pretending that he did not know that he wasn't human was going to be easy because he still remembers being human. He just wondered what was going to happen to him between now and when his new body is mature enough to actually allow him to work on growing more powerful.

Suddenly a man entered the room with the dark tan skin, white eyes, and long pale gray hair. They had the youthful appearance up someone in their late 20s at most. This stranger seemed to be his father with how he rushed over checking on the woman and him. He also saw another woman there who seems to be changing the sheets that had been covered somewhat in blood; most likely due to a difficult but still successful delivery of a healthy baby.

They all spoke a language that Charlemagne did not understand, but from how they spoke it he could recognize at least what part of the world it was spoken in due to hearing something similar during his time fighting in the war. It was one of the North African languages of that he was certain he just needed to figure out which type it was. He remembered hearing this type of language from African soldiers from North Africa that had started aiding in the war effort.

They seem to be all happy as everything looked to be successful and both the birth and the survival of Charlemagne's new mother look to be a boon to all of them. Charlemagne feeling mentally exhausted decided to let himself fall to sleep as his mother seemed to be trying to rock him to sleep anyway.

Over the next few days things start to become odd for Charlemagne's new parents as they begin freaking out as Charlemagne's magic activates on its own from time to time. They feel it will blow their cover and he can't really control it as his magic starts making things levitate around him every now and then. They try their hardest to conceal it mostly by making sure that those around them do not enter their home where their son is until they can help him figure out how to control his magic.

Eventually they have to move to the outskirts of the protected area of the village simply to keep people from finding out. They don't mind living apart from mostly everybody else in the village; even if they can still see everyone else about 500 feet away whenever they walk outside. However it had to be that way. They really could not afford to allow people to find out about their son's powers because they knew they might get hunted down by former allies. They also seem to be concerned about the fact that he is actually able to use any power at all after being dimmed seconds after birth.

The only one that was in the village that could even be allowed to know was the woman that they trusted the most. The woman that served as the midwife who helped deliver Charlemagne. She often came around once a week to check on them and Charlemagne considered her to be akin to his godmother or an aunt that is not tied by blood relation.

Eventually they all got used to this kind of life on the outskirts of the village. Little by little Charlemagne was also picking up their language and what each of the words meant. Thus he began to slowly understand what each of them were saying.

Given that he couldn't really do anything else he tried to learn how to control his magic. Since as a baby who didn't have the capability of walking or talking yet there was little to do to keep him from being bored. It took him months to figure out how to get his magical flare-ups under control and to stop them out right and once you learn how to do that he started learning how to control using his magic. He did this by sensing this energy within him that flowed like water but burns like fire and have the warmth and radiance of a bright light. Once he could sense this energy within himself he then learned slowly how manipulate it. Whenever his flare-ups of magic began he would try to figure out how to get them to stop and eventually he figured it out. It started happening less often until eventually when he was about 9 months old it stopped altogether, and he could control how his magic would activate.

This made his parents feel a lot easier on the inside but they still were worried and so they didn't really move back to living amongst the other villagers. Which was good because Charlemagne after figuring out how to control his magic starting trying to learn how to use it. It took him 3 months before he could cast his first spell of his own will and it was just a little fire that he made floating in the air that he could move around and shape into whatever he could imagine for a little bit. He was a year old and he cast his first spell which made him proud of himself as he was starting in his mind to get the hang of things.

Eventually he started trying to learn more and more about how to use his magic. His parents not really seeing a way in which they could take away his ability to use his magical power instead turn to teaching him how to not use it around others. That way he could eventually go into the village and make friends without the worry of him doing something that might scare the locals.

Eventually Charlemagne learned how to walk on his own again around the same time and he could speak basic words that he had learned what they meant in the language that these people spoke. He can only say hello, yes, no, and some other basics. It was enough to try and communicate. Eventually he started noticing that he had birthmarks all across his body that he had kind of noticed from time to time beforehand, but he didn't really have the full motor functions to really see most of his body without assistance. Also there weren't any mirrors in this hut that they lived in.

The birthmarks that he had started to notice on his body resembled stars, moons, and suns. With what he could see without having a mirror to really check himself in he counted around 45 tiny stars across the front of his body. Then there were 8 moons on his chest that formed a circle around the single sun symbol on his chest. There was a sun symbol on the back of both of his hands and one on his forehead. He couldn't really check the back of his body all that well, but when he was able to look at the back of his arms and legs he did notice that there were more stars bringing the total up to around about 65. Which meant that they were probably more on his back that he couldn't see.

These birthmarks were important because whenever he used his magic all of them would glow red, white, or black. That told him enough that they were tied to his magic in some way.

Once he was older and could speak more fluently he eventually asked his parents to tell him how many symbols were on his back and which were stars, which were moons, and which were suns. When they gave him the total number it made the final count go to 90 stars, 19 moons, and 9 suns all across his body. They seem to form a pattern that resembled hey solar constellation in the general shape of his overall body.

Around the time Charlemagne became 3 years old the woman who he considered his godmother gave birth to twins. Both of which had birthmarks on their bodies that resembled stars like Charlemagne's own star birthmarks but far less than he had. Specifically both had 3 stars each on their bodies. The coincidence was not lost on the woman or Charlemagne's new parents.

Much later on though they started exhibiting magical powers close to becoming one-year-old each when they could make small items levitate for a couple seconds here and there every other week. Which was nowhere close to Charlemagne's uncontrollable ability to make most of everything in his home levitate outside of the people in it. When it started becoming harder for them to hide this information about him and now the twins; Charlemagne actually speak up to his parents in secret one night. He had learned very well the language of the people here and could speak it more fluently because of his much more mature mind. He had also grown quite close to his new parents and saw them as his true parents; considering his previous ones were very cruel and resentful of him in his old life. He felt he could trust them with knowing at least to some degree what was going on.

He walked up to them as they were preparing to have dinner as a family with the food that his father had helped the hunters catch earlier that day. He was not sure how to tell them at first but he kind of just forced himself to say it, "I know I'm a Nephilim." Hearing him say that cause both of his parents to freeze in place as they had to take a moment to process what they just heard him say.

His father, Vaxalyn, stared at him in disbelief for a moment before saying, "Where did you hear that nonsense? Yes your powers are a little bit odd but you are human, Charles."

Charlemagne started speaking to them like the grown man that he really was on the inside, "No I'm not. I already knew that I was a Nephilim since the day I was born because I got to choose how I was and who my parents would be. A God by the name of Loki offered me this opportunity and you are the two that I chose. I know that you are not human either. I know that you are an angel and mom is a demon. As I said I got to pick the people that give me life in this world."

His mother, Hinami, looked at his father and with slight shock and recollection at hearing the mention of Loki's name she tells him, "That's the Trickster Sun God that our lord told us would help him to prevent the coming of armageddon. If he knows that name he must be telling the truth. The people out here have never even heard of such a being because of how remote and disconnected from the world it is, so it would be impossible for him to hear that name from them."

His father gave a nod to her and sat down to stare Charlemagne in the eyes, "So why us? What was so special about us when you 'got to pick' who your parents would be?"

Charlemagne knew Vaxalyn wanted the honest truth and being an angel, by nature, meant that he would not accept it if there was even a hint of lying or withheld information. Charlemagne answered truthfully, "On a personal note, absolutely nothing. However what I was looking for was a combination as my task was to help save the future which I had already caught a glimpse of a possibility of what awaited the world. To do that I needed power and so I picked the two races that I could combine to make the most powerful version of my new self that I could be with the express goal in mind to eventually grow strong enough to change the course of history. So I ended up choosing the two of you as it yielded the best combination with the most optimal skill sets to start with as it would be a boon to help in my quest to save the future that I saw."

His mother looked at him with a very sorrowful face and questioned, "So what? You just saw us as a means to an end?"

Charlemagne shocking himself with how he seemed to physically respond to hearing that looked at her with a confused sad gaze. He started shaking his head no without him really noticing he was doing it and he corrected her, "No... Never.... You both are wonderful........ I can't deny that the two of you are actually a lot more than what I thought my choice would amount to. I know what happens to those like me, so I thought you both would have most likely abandoned me and moved on. But against what I had come to know you both stuck around and you gave it your best shot to be a normal family. I didn't get that in my last life but I have been in this one..... So thank you for not abandoning me like so many had. If anything I see you both more as my parents then I did the ones in my previous life that turn their backs on me."

His father looks at him while trying to scratch his head to think a little bit more on the new information and what is being said in the moment. He asks, "So why tell us now? You just turned 3 a couple days ago why not then? Or why not when you were younger?"

Charlemagne shyly explained kind of embarrassed, "Well the reason I didn't tell you sooner was mostly because I didn't know the language all that well to communicate until about now. Then I put it off for a little bit more after I could speak well enough to mostly see if the two of you would see me as too much trouble and leave me behind alone to deal with things on my own here. But it became clear that that's not going to happen and that you both are genuine with your belief in trying to be a good family that cares for each other. And I want that and the best way to have that is to be honest about who I am and what it is that I'm here for. If I'm going to save the future I want to make sure that I'm doing it for a family and the people that I'm proud to call my own."

This seem to comfort his father and the man picked him up and held him a bit close to his chest likely a toddler that he still even now considered him to be. Charlemagne of course gave a hug in response and to his own surprise a genuine smile came upon his face. He was starting to consider this family to be genuine where his last one was a facade. That made him happy so much more than he would ever really let on.

However he did seem to want to make a request of them, "I also wanted to tell you guys because there are going to be more people with magic coming into this world, more monsters will start to show up, and things are only going to get more intense. I would like you both to start training me and teaching me so that I can become better prepared as I get older. Is that asking too much?"

His mother placed her hand on his face and shook her head no before agreeing to help, "There's nothing wrong with that request my sweet little man. We would be happy to help you. You're our son after all." She kissed him on the forehead and he smiled happy to have a mother that gave him kisses instead of beatings. As his arms still held on to his father and he was glad he had a father that was willing to stay and not abandon him to suffer.
