School wasn’t so bad as a senior. Most of my classes didn’t matter as much because I’d gotten most of my credits out of the way. My two main ones were AP Literature and Band class, the rest were silly classes like teacher’s aide and yearbook. Band was where I really had my fun. The marching season was over, which sucked so much, but I also really loved concert season. My band mates are like a second family for me. Especially the girls in my euphonium section. Maybe I won’t stay in touch with all of the band, but I have a feeling my euph girls are lifelong buddies. Since we’re such a small section, we tend to be a little closer than everyone else. This may be the thing I miss the most once I’ve graduated.
Time flies by when your having fun, and before I already knew it, the school day was over. I begin my walk to the parking lot when Wesley catches up to me.
“Hey, Wes! You headed to the lot now?”
“Sure am, Buttercup!”
Buttercup is a nickname that Wesley gave to me after I showed him my favorite movie, The Princess Bride. He knew I would love it because he already had the main male characters name.
“Sweet, we can walk together.”
“You’re not staying after school with Mrs. Rogers?”
Mrs. Rogers often held tutoring hours after school, and I always stayed for it, but today I had plans.
“Not today. I think she said she had to leave early anyway.”
“Well, then let’s hang out, Em! It’s been a hot minute.”
I hate saying no to him. “Sorry, Wesley. I’ve already got plans with Lincoln.”
“Oh, uh, that’s great! We’ll get together eventually.”
I could hear the disappointment in his voice, but I can’t drop everything for him. Not anymore.
I pinch his check softly “Don’t freight, it’s only halfway through the school year. We have time.”
As we reach my car, I hop in and roll the window down. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Wes. Give hugs and kisses to your cat for me.”
“Will do, Buttercup! See you!” He says with a wink and jogs to his car.
I could already see people surrounding him as I drove away. He’s so popular. That was one of the reasons I broke up with him. I hated having to fight for his attention.
