Milo
Milo had known something was off ever since Wes had stumbled into their home.
Milo thought little of the odd behavior at first, too wrapped up in the excitement of seeing his friend.
But after the initial joy wore off, Milo would catch the lingering looks Wes would give Jasper. And Milo noticed the looks that Jasper would return.
Milo just chalked it up to his imagination.
Maybe being with Jasper had made him more territorial.
But then Milo noticed the odd fluttering wing movements that Wes would do in front of Jasper, and how it would make Jasper bolt like a fire was lit under his ass.
He wasn’t a petty person. If Milo had a problem with someone, he told it straight to their face. None of that talking behind-the-back bullshit.
At least, that's what Milo told himself when he left the two on the porch to use the bathroom.
The Omega promised himself that he wouldn’t eavesdrop.
Because there was no reason to eavesdrop! Right?
Because Milo trusted Jasper.
Milo repeated that thought to himself even as he crept towards the open window. Just a few feet above the Alpha and Omega on the porch. Milo nearly tripped out the window when Wes' serene voice floated up to him.
“I have feelings for you, and I want you to be my Alpha. Not Milo’s.”
Milo felt his heart clench at Wes’s blunt declaration. What the fuck was going on? How could he?
“Listen, Wes, I can’t I’m with Milo.”
Milo felt the ice around his heart melt at Jasper’s firm words. Of course Jasper would choose him. They loved each other. Didn’t they?
“The only reason you're with Milo is that your biology told you to be. What do you want Jasper?”
Milo nearly laughed at Wes’s audacity. Could Wes not take a hint? Jasper and Milo were more than lovers, they were partners. They would always choose each other.
But when Jasper said nothing, Milo felt his confidence waiver.
Milo dug his blunt nails further into his palms as the long seconds ticked by.
Why was Jasper hesitating for so long? He wanted Milo, right?
“I.. don't know.”
Every thought eddied out of Milo’s head.
… he doesn't know…
God, Milo was an idiot. An idiot for thinking someone could want his fucked up ass.
Of course, Jasper would want someone like Wes.
A perfect Omega.
An Omega that didn’t curse or push their Alpha’s buttons.
Milo watched as his tears splashed on the windowsill, evaporating quickly in the warm sun.
This was pathetic. Why was Milo crying? He should have known better than to trust some Alpha.
Stupid, stupid, stupid Milo.
Did this mean that Jasper and Wes would be together now?
The thought stole the breath from Milo’s lungs and brought a fresh wave of tears.
Milo pushed his inner arm against his nose, trying to contain his sniffles.
The noise must have been too loud, however. The next thing he knew, he was looking down into Jasper’s shocked eyes.
I can't do this. This is too much.
Milo wrenched himself away from the window. Hustling downstairs.
He needed to clear his head and get some air.
Milo nearly slammed into Jasper’s broad chest at the cabin entrance.
“Milo, I can explain.”
The Alpha sounded devastated.
“It’s okay Jasper, please just move.”
“Milo, please, I love you, I just was thinking-”
“Exactly. You had to think about it, Jasper,” Milo breathed. “You hesitated.”
Milo watched as sheer panic entered Jasper’s gaze. Milo felt too numb to care.
"You said you 'don't know' what you want. You don't know if you want me."
"It all happened so fast, Milo. I just didn't want to hurt Wes's feelings when I turned him down."
"You still said you didn't know what you want, Jasper! We can't ignore that."
" I know what I want now. I want you, Milo. Only you." Jasper insisted.
Silence consumed the dark entryway, only broken by Jasper’s labored breathing. Milo hated it, but Wes's words nagged at him.
Was Jasper only with him because of his biology? Did Jasper feel like he didn't have a choice?
Was Milo preventing Jasper from being happy...
“I think we need a break.”
“What? Milo, please no.” Jasper’s voice was wobbling.
Milo gave Jasper an empty smile, skirting around the trembling Alpha.
“Everything is fine, Jasper. I’m gonna get some air, okay?”
Milo left his- No- the Alpha in the doorway. Milo just wanted Jasper to be happy and if that wasn't with him... then Milo just had to deal with it.
Stomping down the porch, Milo steeled himself to meet Wes’ blue gaze.
When the Omegas came face to face, Milo had the sudden urge to crunch Wes's perfect nose under his boot.
But if this was the Omega that Jasper wanted...
Jasper broke eye contact, holding his head high as he stormed towards the dirt path into the woods.
Milo stomped through the dense trees, letting the anger and sorrow fill him with every step.
Just as the emotions reached a precipice, a figure landed in front of him.
The winged douchebag?
