Discovery At A Glance
Running through the streets of Greenwich (Manhattan), a boy in the middle of his teenage years. He looked up at the tall buildings of the working man, offices in panic and many ran out of the buildings with phones in their hands, headphones in their ears. Bots flew overhead as news teams determined the situation was too dangerous for them to come themselves. Moments later the nearest broadcasting station gets destroyed from the outside in. The tall building topples over, hitting the being responsible for the riot yet from the civilian's eyes the building merely brushes over the creature’s head as if petting it. What was considered a head was more similar to a body.
As if to make matters worse it was estimated only sixteenth of the population would survive by the end of the year, it’s September the third today. No one knew where they were coming from, they just started appearing all over the world….they are growing rapidly in size and population. Everyone left and right, crushed under their feet or by their teeth. Either way, the monsters grow bigger in size. The boy looked to his left and his right, tiny versions of the big monster flooded the streets staring at everyone. The monsters didn’t discriminate with the destruction- pets, sick, young, old. All torn to shreds. The emergency broadcast playing on the boy’s phone, which was also in his hand as the other common folk, described these beings as monsters and advised people who had basements and underground bunkers to use it. Earlier that evening when the broadcast was first released on repeat the public thought of it as a joke, memes and streams laughing at the sudden broadcast were widespread. It was only till the first few deaths did people realize there was no mistake, no joke, and no survival. “We just got a report that the first known creature was spotted near a private research lab in Massachusetts, it’s been assumed that it's an escaped creature that the scientists experimented on to create a new source of renewable energy, using the newly found single-celled organism: Pithovirus sibericum”. The boy puts his phone deep into his pocket, realizing that what he’ll get out of the news isn’t a survival guide to this apocalypse.
His home was destroyed, and along with his school, all he could do was keep running. He cursed those who played with the dangerous life form and evolved it into a growth-type killing machine. The boy ran, he figured it was safer in an open space than next to the buildings that were being destroyed by those creatures. He called his mother, ring ring, ring ring, the phone connected. MA, It’s Gregory! Where are you? Where should I go? His mother was a scientist and he knew he could rely on her, though she wasn’t involved with the experiments at least she had an idea of what she was going to do. “Stay where you are, me and your father are on our way. Don't listen to the newscast, the information they are giving is incomplete and false. These creatures have a conscience and a mind, it is not a Pithovirus Sibericum it's a completely different organism, something we have never seen before, and it's in it to kill”. The boy opened his mouth and sighed “Like zombies?” The mom chuckled through the phone, pants could be heard from her running away from the buildings. “Yes baby, just like the zombie shows you watch all the time”. The boy smiled, he knows how these zombie movies went, there was never a cure, never enough information, and never many survivors..But, Gregory knows that in some zombie movies there was somewhat of a solution. Taking a DNA sample from the creature and putting it into a suitable host could either make the worst creature alive..or the key to saving humanity. The boy looked around for a small sample. An underdeveloped creature who couldn't find a food source, in an empty street a block away from the park, there it is, the boy exclaimed in delight. He rushed over and quickly picked it up, it was about the size of a cup of coffee jelly at a convenience store. On his way back to the safe arms of the park he noticed a dying dog, buried under the rubble. The boy covers his mouth with his free hand, gagging. “Man up,” He tells himself.
The boy felt the ground shake. Everyone in the area was either dead or out of plain sight; the only one left was him. He panicked, the only other living organism other than him was the dog, which at this point isn't sure if it was alive or not. Gregory takes the harmless creature and puts it on the dog's wound. Though nothing happened for a few seconds and the boy was about to lose hope, the organism went into the dog. The boy smiled happily, he was starting to figure things out. Either the organism would slowly eat the dog out from the inside, the dog dies trying to adapt to the organism's abilities, or it survives and becomes a possible way to survive the new apocalypse.
The dog trembles and shakes violently, with no remorse in the boy's eyes just pure anticipation and curiosity. The first large organism notices Gregory and makes its way to him with haste. Gregory jumped and looked around, “if the dog doesn't get up in time ill have to make a run for it” he sighed and paid closer attention to the dog. The poor dog stops shaking, Gregory checked for a pulse and breathing and discovered that the dog was dead. The boy got ready to run but he heard a growl from the dog. He lends closer and the dog pounced on him. One by one the boy was devoured by this rabid dog. Instead of regretting his decision, the boy wondered: was the dog already infected with rabies? Or could the dog not handle the sudden change in his DNA? The dog grew and grew, it became easier to swallow Gregory with every bite the dog took until the dog just swallowed the rest of Gregory whole. The creature went to the dog and tried to consume it but the dog did the opposite to it instead. With the strength and skill in the dog's blood, reverting it back to its predecessor's instinct it was able to devour the rest of the organisms in the area in a short period of time. But the dog also did the same as the original organisms: killing, destroying, eating, and growing.
The world now has fewer problems to face but it's one big, destructive, unstoppable problem.
