After waiting a few minutes past her appointment time, the interviewee was finally instructed to go to her potential future boss's office.
A woman around her mid-thirties escorts the anxious applicant towards the double doors. "Apparently, the boss is very upset today," she warns Ari abruptly while busy checking her tablet. "I recommend that you don't anger him. He is not someone you want to mess with."
"What?" Before Ari could ask any questions, the apathetic receptionist had already opened the door to reveal the massive personal office belonging to the boss of the building.
The room was large and neatly decorated with only the most exquisite and expensive decorations. Windows the size of a wall allows natural light to pass through and a clear view of the busy city. The color theme contains black and gold along with modest greenery such as indoor plants for a homey touch. The style highly reflected how rich this man truly is.
The statuesque boss had his back towards the two ladies. He was busy with some paperwork.
"Excuse me, sir, but Miss Ari Moon is here now."
"Sit," he orders, not bothering to turn around to acknowledge or greet his potential future employee.
Ari is a little intimidated by his tone. She didn't like it, but she obeyed. Maybe he's having a bad day?
Once the employee seated the applicant, she left the room and closed the door shut. Now it was just the two of them inside the big office.
Ari places her portfolio on the large coffee table in front of her before scooting back in the chair to make herself comfortable. She is busy straightening out the contents inside the folder that she didn't even bother to look up at the chairman. After flipping it to the first page, the nervous applicant sits straight up and takes a deep breath while silently praying, hoping that she won't mess up this final interview. She had invested too much time and effort already after passing the previous exam and initial interview successfully. She couldn't afford to mess it up now. Presentation means everything for this final stage.
When the tall and lean man finishes whipping up his drink, he finally turns around and sits in front of his guest.
"Good morning, Miss—!" Surprised to see Ari, the girl who he argued with earlier that morning, the chairman almost choked on his coffee.
"You!" They both exclaimed at the same time while observing one another carefully.
Ari's eyes widen while her jaw drops significantly. Her face turns pale while goosebumps rise on her arm and the back of her neck. She never would have expected to face the familiar rude man again. While she did have a hunch that he was someone important in the company, she didn't expect him to be the ultimate boss.
A quick moment later after processing everything, the speechless applicant awkwardly forces a smile and bows at a forty five degree angle. Was it worth it to swallow her pride and please this arrogant man to get the job? Yes. She needed this job.
"I... I sincerely apologize for the incident earlier, sir," she finally manages to utter while forcing a bubbly persona.
Amused by her sudden change of behavior, the chairman snickers. He knew that she would have easily apologized once she recognized who he was. Everyone always has. No one would dare to argue with him in this industry. He leans back in his seat and stares at her with a sly grin. "So the little feisty lady does know how to show some manners," he questions sarcastically. "Hah! That's good then."
Ari secretly clenches her fist behind her back. She wants to retort, but she holds her tongue back. Instead, she lifts her head up and beams at him with a friendly smile. "Mr. Ren Hawk, chairman of H Corporation, it's a pleasure to finally meet you."
His grin grew wider. He leans forward and rests his elbows on his knees while holding onto his chin. It was now his turn to provoke her. "Really now? However, I can't say the same for you."
Ari takes a deep breath and disregards what her potential employer had just said. She slides the folder closer to him. "Please feel free to look over my portfolio. I am excited to be given this opportunity to meet you personally. I am confident that I am qualified for this position and would be an exceptional employee to this company."
"Tsk, tsk, tsk." Ren shakes his head. "I don't know. There's a lot of criterias to be met in order to be a qualified candidate for being my Assistant. For example, let's see... Oh, I know! I must like the person first. Unfortunately, that's something you're lacking." He glances forward and sees her expression tense. That was the goal. It quite honestly boosted his ego.
Ignoring her emotions, he takes the portfolio and flips through the documents. After reviewing it silently, he threw the folder back on the coffee table.
Startled by the sudden commotion, Ari shifts upward. "Is there a problem, sir?" she asks, concerned.
"Yes."
"W... What problem can there be?"
"Well," he clears his throat, entertained by her worrisome expression, "You obviously don't make a good impression of yourself. You're just sitting there, not even communicating with me on why I should hire you. You are simply too boring. Plus, you have a foul attitude. I expect professionalism at all times. That's something you're lacking. Unfortunately, I don't believe that you'll be able to get along or represent my company very well, Miss Moon."
Rage runs through her pulse as his cocky eyes peer into hers. Ari had the urge to kick him. Right in the throat. However, as her anger completely overtakes her emotions, she suddenly lets out a bitter laugh, making the chairman slightly confused. The furious interviewee slaps her hands on the table and rises up. "Is this a joke?"
"No," he replies calmly and arrogantly while reaching for his cup of coffee before taking a small sip of it. Mocking her made him feel ten times better.
"You know what, fuck it. I'm sorry for wasting your time. In fact, I'm sorry that I wasted my precious time on someone like you." Ari grabs her portfolio and shoves it back inside her bag. "Who would want to work with the world's biggest asshole, right?!" She looks down at him once more, purposely holding her nose up high. "I hope your day is as nice as you are. Which by the way, would be horrible!"
With those final words, the applicant storms out of the office and purposely slams the door loudly.
Ren clenches his jaws as his pulse quickens. He is once again disrespected by that bratty kid. Was he going to let it go just like that? Absolutely not. If fate allows them to meet again, he promises to give her hell.
