Glitched Out

Chapter 20.

Chapter 20.

Jun 07, 2022

I opened my eyes and saw Brandon, sitting on the mattress. This mattress was in the main room with the big screened computers. “Hey,” he said. He was shirtless with a cigarette hanging out of his lips. I walked over and sat next to him. He put the cigarette out in an ashtray he had in his hand. “What’s up?” I asked. “Nothing much. Same old bullshit,” he said. I nodded and looked at him. “What’s that?” I asked, pointing at a new looking tattoo. It was wrapped. “A dagger. I got it with Tyler,” he said. “A dagger? Another one? Who’s Tyler?” I asked. “What’s with all the questions, kid?” he asked. I sat there and didn’t answer. He sighed. “I never told you how I died, did I?” he asked. I shook my head no.

He grabbed my shoulder. “I was shot by my best friend. He didn’t know I was there at the mall that day. But he knew exactly what he was doing, killing all those people. I was the last one he shot. He stopped when he shot me in the heart. Before I collapsed, I looked him in the eyes and said ‘You are a cold-hearted bastard, Ryan.’ I die on that mall ground in cold blood,” he said, opening a can. He handed it to me. I looked at the can. “Don’t worry. I would never kill someone,” he said. Without a second thought, I took a swing of it. It was root beer.

“I know that was your favorite kind. I did a reading on your brain,” he said. “Cool,” I said. He looked at the computer screen. “Tyler. Tyler Wise is his name. He’s…different but really similar to me. He has a kid like you. He died the same way I did, years later,” Brandon said. “There’s more! Why can’t I meet them?” I asked. “News flash, kid. There’s only two. I don’t know the other kid. I wish I did so you two could meet, but I don’t know them,” he said. We sat there for a bit before Brandon got up and went to the computer screen.

“Ash, come and look,” he said. I did just that to see wording in small print. The computer chip had the words, ‘Wise enterprise’. “Wise,” I muttered. I looked at Brandon and sat down in the chair. “What are you doing?” Brandon asked. “Look. The Wise enterprise was a foundation made by Melissa Wise in honor of her husband, Tyler Wise. Tyler Wise was shot and killed on August 21 at 6:28 pm. The Wise enterprise ran by his wife until she died of cancer at age of 39. Their son, Michael Tyler Wise, refused to continue the business. He shot the building up and burnt it down,” I read to Brandon

“Michael? How old is he?” Brandon asked. “36. Here it says that he married a girl he got pregnant with when he was 15,” I said. I looked up the picture of the current living family. “Oh hell no!” I shouted. Michael’s son was Tyler. The same Tyler that abused Robyn all those years ago. “What about it?” Brandon asked. “That fucker abused Robyn for years just to ran away after I called him out on his bullshit,” I said, pointing at the boy in the middle. “That kid? I knew he was a dirtbag. Did you know he got married to a girl last year. They just had a son,” Brandon said.

I looked at the screen. Who?” I asked. “His wife is named Arya. They dated after Robyn broke up with him,” Brandon said. “I think I know his number. I need to…chat with him,” I said. I looked at my hands. “Why are you looking at your hands like that?” he asked. I didn’t answer. He walked closer to me. There was electricity, bouncing from finger to finger. “Nevermind, I don’t have to teach you shit,” Brandon said.

“I’m gonna go. Text me anything else you find, Brandon,” I said. “Okay,” he said. I watched as my vision glitched out. “See ya Brandon,” I said. “See ya kid,” he said. I closed my eyes.

Being perceived as normal should have been good, right? Even though Ash would never be normal, he lived what was viewed as an average life. He was the really smart and attractive triplet. Everyone loved Ash. His life was pretty much perfect to everyone. Who would be perfect with the famous, billionaire playboy, his beautiful wife, and two extremely talented brothers as their family. The truth of him and his family would soon be spilled out to the public once his mother died after giving birth. His father, Malcolm, was always drunk and out late at night which left the triplets with the twins, Alex and Alexa. One day, Malcolm came home sober and with someone. Someone Ash was in school with. Now with her dating his only living parent, he has to listen to her like she is his parent. Maybe the power got to her head.

Ash isn’t a normal 18-year-old boy. He has what people would call an alter ego. Two different souls in the same body with the same problems. Glitching out.
