SOLANA
"Solana! Where are you?!"
"Selene, I'm tired."
"No. Not yet, please… "
"I'm sorry."
"Solana!"
“Solana!”
I woke up from my deep slumber after hearing my name getting called several times. I instantly opened my eyes and sat from my bed. I slowly processed everything until I realized that my mother had been calling me from outside of my room.
“Solana! How many times do I have to call you?!” She screeched.
“I'm already awake!”
I stared at the floor for a while trying to remember my dream. Weird, my dreams felt so real last night that it almost made me think that it’s true. After minutes of spacing out trying to remember my dreams, I quickly stood up to wash my face and brush teeth. After finishing my daily morning routine, I hurriedly went out of my room and went straight to the kitchen.
“I’ve been trying to wake you up since earlier. It seems like you’re having a bad dream.” My mother said while cutting the potatoes.
“Huh? Why?” I replied while pouring some water into a glass.
“You were screaming and bawling inside your room. I thought you've gone crazy, what are you dreaming of? ”
“I– I can’t remember. I’m sure there was a girl in my dreams, though I can't remember her face.” Making a confused face. I just shrugged it off and decided to help her cut the vegetables.
“Mom, what are you gonna cook?” I asked while chopping the carrots.
“Caldereta—Why are you chopping the carrots like that?! It’s not even properly peeled!”
“What? How am I supposed to cut them?”
She sighed, “Just go to the living room and watch the news. An eclipse might appear later, wait for them to announce it."
"Okay." I replied as I walked towards the living room.
As I comfortably sat on the couch, I reached for the remote control on the side table to turn on the television and watch the news.
"The news hasn't started yet. Mom, are you sure about the eclipse?" I asked her.
"Yes, just wait for it!" She replied.
"By the way, where's dad?" I said as I started to find an interesting channel out of boredom.
"He went to his work early. He said that he needs to do something important."
I nodded my head, “Hmm, I see.”
A news flash appeared showing the progress of the eclipse. I should watch the eclipse outside, maybe at the park since it’s visible there. I decided to go back to my room to get my camera to take a picture of the eclipse.Nice, I’ll have something to add on my album again. I quickly ran into the kitchen to inform my mom.
“Mom, I’ll go to the park. I’ll watch the eclipse there, also gonna take a pic of it.” I said while showing my camera to her.
“Go ahead, take care.” She replied while she’s busy cooking.
After getting permission, I quickly put my shoes on and ran to the park. My house is only walking distance to the park. After arriving at the park, I searched for a spot where the eclipse would be visible. I decided to settle on a bench where I can see the sky. Basically, in the middle of the park.
“This is good, I’ll just wait for the clipse.” I said, talking to myself.
While sitting on the bench, I saw some random girl sitting beside the bushes. Is she hiding from someone? I got curious and that's why I decided to ask her since the eclipse might take its time before appearing. I walked towards her direction and crouched beside her.
“Are you okay?” I said, and that seemed to startle her.
She looked at me with a shocked face, “Who are you?”
“I asked you first. Are you hiding from someone?”
“Yes, I’m okay. I’m not hiding from someone.” She replied and stood up after observing the surroundings.
I raised a brow, “Then, why are you crouching here?”
“It’s nothing.”
“Are you new here? I’ve never seen you before.” I stood up and fixed my wrinkled clothes.
“I do not live here.” She replied.
“I see. Oh! The eclipse, come on and let’s watch it.” I said as I saw the moon and sun starting to collide. I took her arm and pulled her while running to the bench where I was sitting earlier. I hurriedly took out my camera and took a picture of the eclipse. After a few minutes, the eclipse is already done. I managed to take a lot of photos of it.
“You like the eclipse?” The girl I pulled earlier said.
“Yes, I also like the oceans.” I replied while scanning the photos I took earlier.
I looked at her and smiled, “What’s your name?”
“Selene, how about you?” She sat on the bench. Her name sounds really familiar, though I can't remember where I heard it.
“Solana, you can call me Sol. Wow, our names are actually the opposite of each other.”
She smiled, “Yes.”
“Let’s be friends. Can I call you Sel?”
“Yes, sure. You can call me Sel.”
“Let’s introduce ourselves again. Hi, I’m Sol.” I said while offering my hands to her for a handshake.
“Hello, Sol. I’m Sel.” She replied while accepting my hand.
“Let’s take a picture, I’ll add this to my album.” I pulled her closer and took the camera. She didn’t complain and just complied. I took several shots before letting go.
I never knew I would meet someone special that will be a part of my life in the midst of the veil...
