It’s About Hannah
After seeing herself hanged at the ceiling Hannah was devastated but witnessing Jasper’s death made her so much worse. She was not getting well. Julian had her scared for a long time. All she did was cry and cry. Ian was glued to his mother, never leaving her sight as she was pretty anxious not seeing him near her.
Constant visits of doctor Roy were making no progress. How can it be if no one knows the reason? Yes, nobody knew anything to start with. They were just seeing Hannah crying for his son whenever he is not near her and then quietly engulfing him near her own after he comes back.
Doctor Roy was getting frustrated. The need for more opinion made him ask Mr. Williams for a shift for Hannah at the hospital. They wanted more of the team of experts to analyze her condition. It was getting hard enough to treat her at home because of her constant cries. So after getting the permission they shifted her to the hospital in a private ward.
After admitting her to the hospital Mr. Williams was once again in a difficult situation. His son. Ian was not himself from the day he saw his mother in that unrecognizable condition.
“what is happening dad, why is she like this?” Ian asked, his eyes swollen and red as he cried all night for his mother
“I don’t know baby, let’s just pray for her health,” he said his voice wavering, almost crying. He hugged his son and cried softly when his son started sniffing again.
It was nearly two weeks after her admission. A group of Different doctors and psychiatrists were examining her condition but to no avail. Not able to get the problem she had they were forced to give her sedative to keep her sane and not crying. Different tests were conducted for her mental state but nothing was wrong. A little doubt settled in Roy’s mind. After sharing his doubts with his psychiatrist he was confirmed of her disease. Very strong emotion was affecting her body. Analyzing her responses for when she was awake and when sleeping. They both concluded her problem was fear. Yes, they found out it was fear that was causing her mind so much trouble. Maybe she was scared of something. Doctor Roy made a mental note to ask Mr. Williams.
……….
The whole little family was disturbed. Mr. Williams had a long leave since the incident, and his boss was cooperative and visited Hannah as well. Mr. Williams spent his days with her and left for the nights to attend to his son. Both Mr. and Mrs. Smith also visited along with their son. They got worried about her health. Worry was the common expression on everyone’s face. Mr. Williams restricted Ian’s visits to the hospital, after seeing him bawling for his mother when she had an attack in front of him. Her body jolted with extreme stress and then she fainted once again. This site was new to Ian, not able to handle he collapsed in Ethan’s arms and the doctors suggested taking him home.
Ethan was more than worried for Ian, the family stayed at their house for two days until Ian was fine, after that they had to leave.
Duty calls!!
Before leaving, Ethan promised Ian to call for updates on Hannah’s health and made Ian promise to take care of himself and not cry anymore. He kissed the living hell out of Ian before leaving with a heavy heart.
After the episode in the hospital, Mr. Williams wouldn’t let Ian stay more than two hours with his mother, he would cry and cry after seeing his mama in that condition. It was difficult to handle everything until it was the end of the second week. A piece of good news after a long time was much needed. Mr. Williams was successful in making Ian stable after he got the news that Hannah had started to respond. He made Ian attend college again and resumed his job as well. It was a good sign that she was alive once again. Now it became their routine to visit her daily although she was sleeping all the time that’s okay If she is alive right? After their visit, they both will leave for home and settle for some instant food are not able to cook for themselves after a long day.
She was not in her best condition but she was a little responsive after the psychiatrist tried his last shot. Ian was her weakness, it was obvious. Using it for the best benefit of the patient the doctors tried to encourage her to come back without losing herself. It worked and was a relief to the doctors as well.
………….
It was not simple, preparing for the office than visiting the hospital, adding Ian and his little tantrums on the list that only Hannah can handle was making Mr. Williams exhausted. His prayer came to an end one night when he was cooking some curry along with some rice. The cell phone kept on the coffee table in the living room was ringing nonstop. Mr. Williams was tired after a long day. He just got back after he visited Hannah and was cooking for Ian who was not home yet.
He picked up the phone and went back to the stove having a pot boiling with thick curry. He answered and adjusted the device between his ear and shoulder before adding the sliced onions into the pot.
“hello” Not having in the mood to attend any call he said tiredly
“Hello sir, is this Mr. Williams, I am calling from SNS medical care hospital, it is about your wife” the woman on the other side informed. Her voice was calm and it did something to Mr. Williams's heart. ‘it’s about your wife’ she just said those words with a calm voice. Maybe it’s her training that made her sound so calm in every condition possible.
“what about her?” he asked with concern dripping in his voice
“actually there is something Mr. Roy wants to discuss with you, if you can visit the hospital now?” she said in a polite voice. He wanted to ask if she is okay but thought otherwise and rushed to turn off the stove. In between putting the lid on the pot and running to get his keys, he replied
“sure, sure I will be there soon” He drove faster than usual, almost breaking the traffic rules. ‘doctor Roy, it's about your wife, something to discuss’ everything was playing with his senses. Positivity is the only option left. What will he do if anything happened to her, where will he go then, and worst of all how will he manage Ian. He drove at the high speed reaching the parking lot of the facility in less than thirty minutes keeping the traffic in mind. After parking the car, not facing any particular direction, he rushed to the elevator to get inside the building. In what felt like hours he finally reached the reception, panting and sweating in this cold weather.
“I am here,” he said composing himself and looking around as if any other thing can provide him assurance of nothing being wrong
“Oh, Mr. Williams please follow me,” the lady at the reception said with a polite smile and started walking to the doctor’s cabins.
Yes, definitely her training
Reaching a white door that can give any news he is not expecting he looked at the lady.
“you can go in and meet Mr. Roy,” she said before leaving without saying anything further. Mr. Williams was stressed but he went inside after knocking and receiving a mild ‘come in’. There stood Mr. Roy holding a file and an x-ray of a brain. His expressions were normal, nothing seems out of ordinary.
“Oh Mr. Williams glad you came so early,” he said while putting the report on the table.
“Is everything alright, is she okay, what happened?” asked Mr. Williams with concern, readying himself to embrace whatever is going to happen
“There is nothing to be worried about, don’t worry, Instead I have a piece of good news about Mrs. Williams. She is doing just fine. We did a few tests on her and she responded positively, she is awake now you can meet her” said doctor Roy casually while looking at the stunned expression on Mr. Williams's face. Understanding that the poor man was here to hear something bad he smiled warmly at him
“Mr. Williams?” called Roy with a smile while putting a hand on his shoulder
“she has been asking about you and your son since she woke up, come, let me take you to her, follow me please,” he said while escorting Mr. Williams outside his office. Within five minutes they were standing outside the room of Hannah. They both entered to watch a small smile on Hannah’s face. She was answering some questions asked by the nurse standing beside her bed. when she noticed someone entering her room she turned towards the door. She cried with happiness after seeing her husband after two weeks of her treatment and sleep.
“Darcy!” she raised her hand towards her loving husband. She wanted him near her. Mr. Williams ran towards her to engulf her in a bone-crushing hug. She smiled and hid her face in his neck after realizing her husband was crying. He was crying practically, and she was rubbing his back comforting him. They both were emotional and doctor Roy was smiling in relief.
“finally! You are awake, I was so worried about you Hannah, I didn’t know what to do, I….. I…” his voice was wavering so much. He just hugged her again close to his chest. They both loved each other so much, that it was impossible to think about living without each other.
“I am fine now look, don’t cry Darcy, I am healthy now” she replied nearly crying herself. She hugged him again and whispered sweet things to comfort him, controlling the hiccups that followed. Mr. Roy had to interrupt now seeing them both crying.
“How are you feeling now Mrs. Williams?” he asked in a polite voice, it made the couple separate and caused a little hue of pink on their faces due to embarrassment. They both forgot about the nurse and the Doctor. Both of them were smiling at the couple. Where can you see such a beautiful couple, that is loving and caring nowadays?
“I am okay, just my throat is a little itchy,” she said, straightening up while holding Mr. Williams's hand
“that’s good and about your throat, it’s because you slept through your latest treatment and never woke up to drink water that’s all.” He assured with kindness, “now she is perfectly fine” he said after checking her vitals “a night under observation and she is ready to go home” Roy informed smiling.
“thank you so much,” Mr. Williams said feeling grateful
“There is nothing to thank, it’s my job,” Roy said smiling and shook Mr. Williams's hand before he turned toward Hannah
“Mrs. Williams you must eat and take your medicines, no stress, and no fatigue alright?” Roy said showing a fake temper. He smiled
“Please call me Hannah, and sure, I will, thank you once again,” she said assuring. Roy smiled at her. Seeing the face Mr. Williams made after what Hannah said, Roy wanted to tease the couple a little. They were all of the same age so why not.
“Are you sure I can call you that, I don’t want to refuse someone as beautiful as you but don’t want to risk my life as well” he said playfully and laughed a little after seeing the serious look on Mr. William's face.
Hannah blushed at that which caused a cute pout on her husband’s face. She nudged him playfully and smiled at his childishness. Roy patted his shoulder controlling his grin.
“I will give you some privacy now, please take care of yourself,” Roy said a bit serious this time.
“I will,” said, Hannah
“very well, see you later then,” he said before leaving the room. Mr. Williams turned towards her and kissed her sweetly. He again hugged her and sighed. Hannah was feeling the longing in his embrace. She felt him relaxing when she said she was alright. Suddenly she pulled away remembering her son.
“where is Ian, Darcy? He didn’t come?” Hannah asked scanning around the room.
“oh uh,… he must be home by now, actually he was gone for preparations for his final project,” he said and Hannah nodded
“he is busy and I didn’t tell him completely about your condition, he cried so much when you were hospitalized, I didn’t know what to say to him so I just didn’t let him here more than a few hours.” Mr. Williams explained in a strained voice. He didn’t explain the incident when Ian fainted at her room door when she was not in her senses.
“That’s okay, you did right, I wouldn’t want him to worry over me like this, he is just a small bean” she cooed while pulling Mr. Williams over her bed and cuddling him. He settled and cradled her near his chest
“Yeah? And you wanted that little bean to get married huh?” he mused to lighten the situation. But Hannah was lost in her thoughts after listening to what her husband said just now. She didn’t want to explain the tragedy that lead her to the hospital. She couldn’t explain why she wanted her son to be gone from here. She wanted a brave man like Ethan to protect her son from all evils that she couldn’t do being a parent.
When Hannah didn’t answer Mr. Williams, he got a little concerned. ‘maybe she is sensitive over this topic’ he thought and pulled away from a little. He cupped her face and saw her lost in thoughts.
“Hannah, you’re asleep darling?” asked Mr. Williams when he didn’t receive any response. She flinched a little and looked into his eyes. She wanted to tell so much but her tongue got tied up due to the fear she had in her mind.
“huh….no but a bit sleepy yes.” She said trying to divert her attention and the urge to spill everything she had regarding her son and her this condition. Mr. Williams kissed her temple and helped her in lying down.
“take a nap, I will come back with homemade food and your son, okay?” he said and kissed her again. Hannah nodded in response and smiled at him. Mr. Williams left to get the things he said, leaving Hannah in deep thought about her son, her husband, Julian, and the man she met a few hours ago.
