The woman led Timothy and Andrea to an apartment building approximately one kilometer from the pub. The three crammed into an elevator to fit together with the wooden wagon which then took them to floor seven, the top floor. As they stepped out of the elevator they immediately entered a small open flat with a kitchen, bedroom and living room all in one space.
“Welcome to my humble living,” the woman said.
The apartment looked homely with mismatched furniture and small trinkets in every corner. Some items looked very unfamiliar and their functions were far from obvious for a human who never had set a foot outside of Earth.
“So who are you and why exactly did you bring us here?” Timothy asked.
“You can call me Gem and I brought you here because of that.” Gem pointed towards the robot.
“Do you need her for something?” Timothy moved sideways in an attempt to shelter his creation.
“I’m gonna need the robot to get off this planet, or maybe you missed the memo, but the Earth won’t be livable for much longer.” Gem walked over to the kitchen counter and leaned over it.
“Yeah, I suspected something like that but isn’t it best to wait for a little more information? It sounds on you like you’re leaving tonight.”
“Trust me, you’ll get about a week. This isn’t the first time this happened.”
“One week? Gem, shouldn’t we wait for more information to be released before making any rash decisions?” Timothy asked as it seemed very radical to just take off and leave the Earth forever.
“Tim, I think she’s right,” Andrea said after being absent from the conversation ever since the cop incident.
“Okay, maybe we should wait for more information and for you to get sober.” Timothy clarified.
“I’m serious, something about the announcement felt strange, but ask me again tomorrow if that would make you feel better.”
“Tim-“
“Sorry to interrupt, my name’s actually Timothy, just for your information.” Timothy chipped in.
“Okay, Timothy, the exact thing that is going on here happened to my home planet. That is why I know,” Gem said.
Timothy still wasn’t convinced that they only had one more week left on Earth, but looking into Gem’s eyes he knew that she was telling the truth about her home planet.
“I’m sorry to hear that,” he said.
“It’s fine, this situation is much worse since the UFG* didn’t seem to care much about giving you a heads up well in time. Might have something to do with the fact that your government hasn’t been fully integrated yet.”
“Okay, this is all kind of hard to take in, but please tell me what I can do now,” Timothy said.
“Well, you could start by powering up the robot.”
“Her name is Stella, but yes, I can do that although it’ll take some time.”
Gem peeked out of the closest window to see an empty street except from a single patrolling police droid. She then proceeded with closing the blinds over the four west facing windows placed in a file.
“ATTENTION. THIS IS AN URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT BROADCASTED TO ALL PEOPLE ON EARTH. MAJOR EXCAVATIONS OF THE EARTH’S RESOURCES ARE ABOUT TO BEGIN. YOU MUST TAKE SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. MORE INFORMATION WILL BE GIVEN SHORTLY.”
This is the story of a middle aged man with back pains, a homeless chain smoker, a ten year old brat, a blue alien, and a couple of other characters, who unfortunately didn't make it into the description. You will follow them as they tackle extinction level threats against a tiny place in the universe called Earth.
