"Liannaaaaaaaa" Marce whines over the phone, she was already in her house waiting for her significant other to get home from its job.
"Yes?" Lianna herself was trying to pin up some new photos on the wall of her apartment, she was still waiting till her new roommates would move in since she put a listing up on whatever website it was to find roommates, she even forgot what it was called.
"I'm bored."
"Figured, pull up the white board, I got a few ideas for a new mini story."
"For the fifty k word contest in November?"
"Yep." Marce does as instructed, going up to her office in her house that had a massive white board.
"But it's only August, why are you doing this so early?"
"So I can get at least twenty thousand in now and then--" A knock on the door stops her from doing anything else. "Hold on, Marcy, I'll be right back."
She gets off her bed with a thump, still happy that it wasn't like one of those apartments that went into the sky and was competing with skyscrapers since the university that she's going to is somewhat on the outskirts of the city. Heading over to the door she passes a mirror, stopping in front of it she looks at herself, making sure she looks acceptable before another knock at the door makes her jump.
"Coming!" Finally she speedwalks over to the door, opening the door with a small smile to reveal the familiar faces that she had only seen a month prior. "Colt?"
"Hey Lia, nice to see you again."
"What are you two doing here, and how did you find where I live?"
Colton hums, a devilish grin on his face, "How do we say this... we're your roommates for the semester." Lianna stands there, stunned.
What. The. Fuck.
She inhales before exhaling, taking a step back before looking at the two of them again. "You two, Colton and Tobias, are going to be mine, Lianna's, roommates for the entirety of the fall semester?" The two nod, however Tobais looks more on edge than usual, more than what Lianna would consider on edge.
"Yep, so, come here roomie." The shorter boy extends his arms, physically asking for a hug, while the girl takes a step forward to accept the hug before hesitating.
"Never call me that again." She states before fully accepting the hug, making herself taller by standing on her toes she puts her chin on his shoulder, getting what seemed like a glare from the taller boy behind him but when she slightly looked up it was aimed at the back of the other's head which made her a lot more confused.
"Alright, alright," Colton disembarks from the hug, putting his hands up with that goofy smile he always has, "I won't bring it up again." Lianna steps away from the English major, letting them inside with their suitcases bumping on the wooden tile behind their footsteps.
"I'll show you around." She starts off by making their suitcases stay in the living room. As they walk into each of the rooms, Lianna remembers that she forgot to end the call with Marce.
"Lia you seem on edge, are you alright?" The girl turns to hear the voice of her friend, a nervous smile on her face as she begins to fidget with her fingernails.
"Yeah I'm totally fine, I just remembered something, excuse me for a moment... MARCY!" The girl dashes off to her room, hearing the yell of her best friend through her phone.
Marce chuckles as she was left in silence for ten whole minutes while hearing the psych major's whole conversation with what seemed to be two other people that she knew downstairs since they were quite loud.
"Mars bar you gotta help me." Juneau comes out from under the girl's bed after hearing that his owner was back. He must've gotten scared by the new people. Hopefully the two of them aren't allergic to him because Lianna would rather die than give up her only happiness right now.
"How am I supposed to help you? Also hi Jaunie."
"Uhhh- well- remember Tobias?"
"Yeah, To-baised from High school? What about him?"
"Uh- Pfft- but, er- he's my roommate."
"He- WHAT??" There was a knock on the door and both the girl and dog looked at the door, seeing that Colt had opened the door without Tobias behind him.
"Is everything okay here?"
"Yeah yeah everything's fine, just girl talk." Juneau fattens his ears, looking up at Lianna for reassurance. The student looks back down at her dog, giving him a soft smile before rubbing his ears, "it's okay Junie, he's a friend, not an enemy."
"You have a dog?"
"Yep, but he's very shy so I think being back there is your best bet for right now."
"Alright, anyways, Tobias and I are gonna explore the rest of the apartment and we'll knock if we have any questions."
"Ight, sounds like a plan, and don't mind the shrieks from the second floor." Colt chuckles, covering his mouth slightly with his hand.
"Cool, well, see you for dinner I guess."
"Yep." The boy closes the door behind him and Juneau gets less nervous, turning to become his normal self again and hits his tail against the carpeted floor.
"Who was that?" Marce raises an eyebrow, knowing it was one of the new roommates but didn't know who since he looked so familiar.
"That's Colt, or Colton, ya know the one I told you about all those years ago when Tobias and I broke up and he was really sweet?"
"Yeah now I remember him, he still seems like both a really sweet and really cool guy."
"You'll meet him next week for sure when you come up."
"Oh yeah, forgot that's in like two days, I better start packing." Marce moves away from her laptop, exposing more of her and Chiro's room.
A few hours pass by with the two girls talking about whatever new topic came to mind for the story but none really stuck so they decided to come back to the idea when the girl was in town again, away from her life in New York where she was studying for some medical thing.
"But yeah, back to what I was saying- I'm freaking out- this is literally a cliche. Maybe it's the universe telling us to get back together."
"Girlie you are so dependent on hope I swear to the sky daddy. You haven't lost feelings for him at all have you?"
Lianna looks off to the side, avoiding her laptop camera to look at Juneau. "Well..."
"You do, I can see you're avoiding the camera."
"Yeah I do, but I mean- I've been busy so they aren't as strong as they used to be." The girl frantically tries to explain her reasoning as to why she was still obsessing over this boy even though he didn't want to get back together and has no feelings for her whatsoever and overall just sees her as a threat. That and they haven't seen each other since High School so... guess there's another reason.
"I'll just believe you on that, but remember, you both kissed over the summer, remember."
"Yeah..." It was true that over a month ago, when they were extremely drunk the two Basically had a make-out session that Colt and Jacky made fun of in their slightly drunk manor which I don't think they'll let the other who was involved live down. Rather it proved Colt's suspicions that Tobias was still in love with her since he was the one that kissed her in the first place. And from the Discord chats that he has with Lianna, he knows that she still is in love with him so it seems strange how they're acting so cold to the other.
"Then how the hell are you mentally stable right now, you are sharing an apartment with your ex and his best friend- how the fuck are you living right now?"
"Er, I don't know." The girl shrugs before there was another knock at the door, this time the door stayed closed and Lianna looked around for Juneau but found him when he was laying on her bed fast asleep. "I think I'll talk to you later Marcy, my laptop's gonna die regardless."
"Alright, well, I'll see you in two days Lia."
"Ight, good night."
"Night bestie." Their call ends and Lianna closes her laptop, standing up and walking over to the door to open it.
In front of her was Tobias, his tall figure made her feel small like it always did, he grew a bit taller since the last time she saw him, possibly he was around six four by now but she couldn't tell. His hoodie was one that he had since senior year and one that she, in her opinion, thought looked really great on him. His dark brown, almost black hair curled into little springs that Lianna fondly remembers messing around with when they were younger, and his face was still as bright in its facial features as ever.
"Hi."
"Hi." The two stand in silence, the girl starting to get nervous and looks back at Juneau who was still asleep and how she wanted to cry and hold him.
"Listen, Lianna," Her neck snaps back to look at the boy, his dark coffee colored eyes stare directly into her light gray-blue eyes which made her want to crack under pressure. "We made food downstairs and if you're hungry, we'd like it if you joined us."
"Then Colt could've told me." Tobias shoves his hands into the pockets of his hoodie.
"Yeah but he sent me to get you, the dog can come too."
"Junie's shy, I don't think he's comfortable around you guys yet."
"Sorry."
"It's alright, you didn't know and I forgot to tell you guys I have a fluff pup running around."
"Also... can we talk? Like, about July."
"Oh." All hope was seeming to be lost when he said that. Yet the psych major decides to trudge on, going off of the last bit of sanity she has. She nods before closing the door slightly. "Let me just get changed first and then I'll meet you guys downstairs for dinner."
"Alright, see you down there." Lianna closes the door fully before turning back to face the rest of her room. Gripping onto her chest she could feel it getting tighter as her nervousness got worse and worse. Juneau woke up to the deep gasps of the girl and quickly made it to her side, going up against her legs where she felt like the room was spinning and ultimately tumbles to the floor with a thud. Ignoring the pain from the fall she holds the mixed husky dog in a hug, not daring to let go as tears spill from her eyes.
"Junie, Junie Junie Junie." Only the name of her dog was the thing she could say. The overwhelming feeling of everything finally got to her and she broke, maybe it was the conversation she just had with Tobias that pushed her over, it was probably that. Juneau just stays there, tapping the carpeted floor with his tail as if he's trying to alert the others.
There was another knock at the door before it swung open, revealing the boys who looked equally scared.
