"Very funny, Vanilla." Emma took a sip and laughed a little. Then looked around, stared at Millie for a moment, and smiled, her tongue tasting her upper lip.
"I don’t like it when you do that, Emma."
"Why not? Is it too sexy for you?"
"No. I know what you’re thinking."
"Oh, no, no. I bet you don’t know, honey."
"Oh, I know. I might not know the specifics, but you’re scheming something. Whenever you do that, I end up in trouble."
"My sweet, sweet, sweet friend. How can you think so low of me? It might surprise you but I actually have a deal for you."
"A deal as in “deal with the devil”? A deal as in “you’re gonna get so screwed, you’re finally gonna land your guitar on my head and I’ll still laugh about it”? That kind of deal?" Millie’s eyes were half-closed, looking at Emma’s devilish smile.
Emma’s fingers were intertwined and one of her eyebrows was rising to inhuman levels making Millie feel even more uncomfortable.
"What if—?"
"No, Emma! I won’t!"
Millie stood up, her hands over the table. Her childhood friend had her mouth open, her jaw hanging, and her lips moving slowly yet erratically. Millie finally said, "Emma… Sorry." She proceeded to sit down again, her eyes laying low.
"Hey, girl. Don’t worry. I didn’t know you had that in you. Wanna hear?"
"Yes. Tell me."
"So I’ve got a proposal; but this time, there’s money in for you."
