Losing Hope

Chapter 2: The Crash

Chapter 2: The Crash

Jun 17, 2022

TW: This chapter contains subjects that may be sensitive to some viewers.

Nathan looked out of the small window to see his city from so high up, it wasn't long before he started to see thick mist above the grounds as it was still early. He relaxed more once he realised that they were finally above all the clouds, the morning Sun shining on them making them look like cotton candy.

Nathan felt peace, like there wasn't a care in the world. He turned away from the window and looked at Josh, who had already fallen asleep, probably from not getting enough sleep the night before. He smiled to himself and also closed his eyes, later falling asleep before being woken by a flight attendant coming around with a cart full of snacks, chocolates, bottles of water, and other drinks.

'Gentlemen. Lunch will be served when we are a few hours into the flight, would you like something for now?' She spoke and gave a bright smile. Nathan woke Josh up, feeling embarrassed that the poor lady had to see Josh like that. Nathan bought a chocolate bar and a bottle of water. He needed some sugar anyway so it wouldn't hurt.

It had probably been two hours into the flight when the plane had some turbulence, it gently rocked to it's sides a bit but then went to smoothly fly after. This frightened Nathan a bit, but he thought nothing serious of it. The cabin crew knew what they were doing, they've probably done this for years.

The plane kept rocking sideways and some people were getting nervous, a few kids at the front of the plane started to cry as their parents tried to shush them ... some of the students got worried and asked the professor to ask one of the flight attendants if the plane was okay.

'Everything is fine. You have nothing to worry about, sir. This happens often.' They said with a smile and walked away to help calm down elders and kids. Mr. Smith told the students to calm down and that they were going to be okay. They relaxed a bit, but still knew something was wrong.

The turbulence eventually stopped. Kids stopped crying and just clung to their mothers. Fifteen minutes had gone by and the passengers could then go to the bathroom to releave themselves, the commotion had stopped for a while but returned every now and then. Nathan got up and went down to the restroom, he struggled to find it at first but then a passenger showed him where it was, he gave them a smile and went inside.

He ducked his head again and closed the thin folding door and looked at himself in the mirror. He had bad bed hair and his eyes were puffy and red. The puffy looking eyes usually meant he was sick, but he hadn't felt tired. When he was done Nathan went back to his seat next to Josh. Josh fell asleep again after the flight attendant came around with snacks, he was drooling a bit out of his mouth. Nathan chuckled at his sleeping state and sat down, buckling himself in again.

Nathan dozed off and almost fell asleep when the plane started rocking a lot. Nathan instantly came back to reality and looked around at the people next to them, then looking for the flight attendants. The turbulence became so bad that some people were bumping onto each other, causing them to groan in pain.

The lights were flickering and even stopped working for a few seconds. One of the flight attendants was rushing through the halls, she had a worried expression as she went to talk to another, obviously knowing that something was wrong. They assured everyone again that nothing was wrong, but even they were panicking and running down the little spaces while trying to calm everyone down and to check if everyone had their seatbelt on. The plane rumbled, a loud screetch of metal invading Nathan's eardrums. Josh had already woken up and was covering his ears with his hands, looking at Nathan with a shocked expression and then looking back at the attendants.

'Attention all passengers, if you look under your seat, you will see a life jacket. There is also a guide to help you put it on. Parents, help your kids put it on and fasten your seatbelts please.' The flight attendant said almost screaming directly into the microphone to let everyone hear him over the speakers.

Everbody was panicking and screaming, Nathan on the other hand was having an asthma attack, he was sure he put his inhaler in his backpack, where was it when he needed it. He felt his head starting to get dizzy, his vision was going blurry. He fell on the ground, he wasn't paying attention and unbuckled himself after he heared the metal screeching. His head slammed against the seat on the other side of him, he lost consciousness and just layed on the floor, still breathing rapidly, and his inhaler was nowhere to be seen.
'Nathan, Nathan! Are you okay? Wake up, please!' Josh screamed for Nathan. He tried to grab him before he fell but failed. He searched for Nathan's inhaler then found it between thier two seats, but he was to late and was also having a panic attack, shaking madly while trying to wake Nathan up.

The plane went even faster if it was possible, the tiny backpacks and purses on the top shelves were falling onto the passengers. Oxygen-masks fell from the hidden compartments in the cieling, bouncing up and down and then dangling there, a few people grabbed one and put it on. People were screaming and crying, the flight attendants were trying to calm the people as much as they could, but nothing worked. Eventually they gave up and went to their cabins, staying there to prepare themselves for what was going to happen. A few of them were crying as they ran to the rest of the flight attendants.
There was a small island close by, and thankfully the aviator saw it and immediately informed the Captain about it. It was so small but it could easily fit a plane onto it.                                                                  '

'Captain, there's land!' The aviator yelled out, trying to calm himself from all the stress that they were going through, having the plane falling directly from ten thousand meters above land into an ocean would make a normal person stress, obviously.

The pilot noticed the island and gripped the joystick even harder, he pulled it back with all his force hoping that the plane would at least go up a little bit up. He groaned and laughed in joy after the plane moved up and turned. The plane turned west and then fell again. The captain's smile dissapeard and was replaced with a dissapointed frown. This time the plane went straight down. It seemed as if the plane was falling slower and slower. People were crying knowing that they wouldn't make it out alive from the crash.

The plane wing had caught on fire, that was probably what the massive screech was. Pieces of the wing broke off and flew back into then sky, the sounds made it seem like hell. Thankfully the plane was falling to the small island that the aviator had seen, so they wouldn't die in the ocean and be eaten by sharks, or something like that.bThe next thing the Captain could see, was fire. He closed his eyes, coughing almost immediately and took his hands off of the joystick, not that anything would happen if he'd try to move the plane again. He gritted his teeth and tried to search for the aviator. He heard him cough and his eyes were burning.

Black, thick smoke filled the whole plane, engulfing everything and everyone. Nathan was still laying on the floor, having not noticed anything happening. The thin halls between the seats were filled with a gray  darkness, a unwelcoming warmth filled the plane that seemed as if it had came staight from a boiling volcano. Nathan was tumbling around as the plane rocked and shook. Josh had already lost it, passed out and folding himself in half. The lights were flickering madly, you could hardly see anything. People were bounced around when the plane started to shake.

Everything went dark, the lights were off and people stopped crying and screaming for a second. The plane hit the island with a hard bang, it sounded like hell. It teared into multiple pieces and crushed all life on the island and in the plane with the landing.

Bad chapter! But it's the most important, kind of. Thank you for reading. I don't know when I'll be able to update again because I'm busy this week. Episode was supposed to be published on the 18th of June but I decided against it. Enjoy! :)
