DAY ONE
Nathan woke, sprawled across the beach on the hot sand, far away from the wrecked plane. It was a miracle that he was alive. He opened his crusty eyes, blinking to adjust them to the bright sunlight. He had a massive headache, he felt like he was going to throw up. He groaned and moved his head to look around at what had happened.
The Sun burned his skin and he felt sand all over his body. He tried to sit upright, taking a few seconds to get up without having it hurt to much, a sudden sharp pain stabbed his neck once he sat up fully. He looked around again, he turned his body, aching in every muscle.
It didn't look like there was anyone else. He couldn't hear anything except for the trees and fire crackling. The smell was disgusting, he saw things he could never even imagine, his classmates and even Mr. Smith. It must've been a few hours after the plane has crashed. There were corpses everywhere. ***They were hanging in the trees, limbs torn apart, full of blood. There were piles after piles of them. And they all looked the same.***
'What... what the hell is...' Nathan was confused, too distracted by the what he saw to think straight. The sight was awful, it sent chills down Nathan's spine and he felt even more nauseous. He looked away from all of it and vomited on the sand. He gagged a few times then threw up again. His eyes filled with tears.
He was alone. There wasn't anyone with him. His poor classmates, they had families and siblings. And Mr. Smith, he had a wife and kids, he always talked about his daughter when they were finished working in class. Nathan even thought of him as one of his favorite teachers. Tears poured down his cheeks, his vision went blurry and he cupped his hands over his face. His body started to tremble, he wiped the tears off and tried to relax. Once he had recovered a bit, he tried to lift himself off the sand and moved his legs slightly. He groaned, he had never felt so much pain, it was excruciating. Tears brimmed his eyes again, he hadn't cried in months.
He forced himself up, trying to ignore the pain. He limped around on the warm sand, his clothes were ripped and full of burn marks. His face was covered in dust and black smoke and he was bleeding on his arm and on his forehead, he had light bruises on his legs and shoulders. He was suprised that he didn't have any serious injuries like all the others. His hair was a mess, and he smelled like rotten fish, but he couldn't care about that now.
His first instinct was to look for food or another person who was still alive, like what they do in movies. The plane had to have a first-aid kit, hopefully it didn't burn down like the rest of the plane did. And then it hit him. Josh... he hadn't seen Josh anywhere near him where he crashed. His legs trembled. Was his best friend really... dead? They had been friends since middle school. All those happy memories with him, it was lost now.
He tried not to think about him, but it stuck with him while he tried to look for the top of the plane which had been ripped into pieces when he found it. Pieces of it hanged on vines in the trees and were stuck between branches. He had never seen anything like it, there was mud and dirt everywhere. ***He saw much more bodies than at the beach. They were all drenched in blood. Their limbs were shredded or torn apart from their bodies.*** He was shocked about everything and felt nauseous again.
The air had gone cold, the gentle breeze from the ocean made him shiver. He stood there thinking, not knowing what to do. He had to make a fire. He grabbed a few branches that were laying around and placed them to made a very small hut, he took leaves from the trees and bushes and shoved it in the wood. Nathan picked up a long branch and went to the plane, he lighted the wood on fire and walked back.
His fire slowly started to grow, he wanted to make his own fire in case the ones close to the plane spread and burned the island down, his could at least be controlled. Once his fire was growing big, he went back to the plane, looking for anything to help him. There were a few seats that hadn't caught on fire so he tried to jab one out of the metal. Once it was loose he picked it up, it wasn't relatively heavy but he still struggled with his back that was aching everywhere. He slowly started to walk back to his camp, careful not to slip.
'Damn it!' Nathan screamed when he stepped onto a piece of metal he didn’t see. He hopped and threw the seat. It was so hot, it felt like it burned all the skin on his foot off. He fell onto the sand and clenched his hands into fists. He scrunched up his face, enjuring the pain to try and calm himself and to not touch the wound. Eventually the pain faded, he stoop up and hopped on one leg to the ocean, he rinsed his foot off, wincing at how the salty water stinged the burn mark.
He crouched and fell on his bottom in the sand. He rinsed his hands, his face, his legs, until all the layers of dirt and smoke were gone. He heard someting, looking back into the woods, it seemed even darker than the night that was to come. He couldn’t make out what it was, maybe it was a wild animal, or another survivor. He stood up, completely forgetting about his foot injury, his full focus now on the sound he heard for a second time. It sounded like a whisper, he was probably going mad.
'Hello?!' A voice suddenly screamed out of the dark, he jumped, feeling shivers rising up his spine as he realized that it was a human. The bushes and trees made everything on the other side look like another dimension, he could hardly see a thing. The sky was darkening quickly and it was going to be night soon. But he needed to save this person, he was determined now. He couldn't just leave a person to die, not after seeing all the bodies scattered all around the island.
'Is anybody there?! Please ... help me.' The person pleaded, their voice slightly echoing through all the trees. They were far away. Nathan ignored his sore foot and panicked. Shakingly walking to the entrance of the forest.
'Hey! Are you hurt?!' Nathan screamed out, his voice almost broke from not using it. His throat burned as he shouted. He walked around the bushes and tried to ignore all the aching. He searched around the bushes. This person must have been somewhere, right? Unless he was imaging them, no, he couldn't have possibly gone this crazy in only a few hours. But it was possible for him.
'Hello!? Please help me!' It was a woman and her voice was getting weaker, she was tired. Nathan had to find her fast if she was injured. He ran into the rest of the woods, not even caring if he tripped or couldn't see with the Sun almost gone. He had to save her.
When Nathan decides to go on a trip to Saudi Arabia for the summer, he soon realizes that his life was going to end in a plane crash. But surprisingly he survives along with three ofther classmates of his. Will help ever come? Will they die alone on the tiny deserted island they crashed on? Catastrophe doesn't get more real than this.
