Rivermouth, is a normal small town where nothing special happens, and only breathtaking landscape. At least that's how it was until today.
"Sir, we've got a suicide in Stewart's" Sub-inspector Hans reported on the radio." I know it's your last day chief. But can you please come down here"
"I'll be right there," Ray said, as he hastily made his way out of his office room.
Ray Lewis, a man in his early 30s, had a grim look on his face. It was because of the report he received just now. The person who killed herself is his high school sweetheart, Rachel Stewart has committed suicide.
All this time he was looking for something excited to happen in this boring town. But never in his wildest dream would he think that he have to investigate Rachel's suicide.
***
He reached the scene quickly. First, because the town was really small, and for the last reason, he still has feelings for Rachel. Even though he doesn't admit it.
The scene was quite hectic. Town residents were already crowded outside the house. The deputy's already put a barrier tape, to keep the residents away. People surrounding the house slowly made their way as Ray walked towards the house.
A deputy welcomed him as he made his way to the front door, and lead him to a small room, it looked more like an office rather than a room. On the side there were some officers discussing amongst themselves, to conclude it was a suicide or a murder.
In the center, there was a desk, and a women's head rests on her desk in a pool of blood. There's a gun on the floor. On the desk, underneath a pen, which is positioned underneath in the women's hand, there's a note.
'One more mystery for you to solve Ray'
That's what was written in the suicide note. But seeing all this Ray's composure was still calm. He felt relieved now.
"Oi...I do appreciate you dress up like this. But isn't this obvious you are trying to prank me" He said looking at the corpse. "Wake up now or should I just kill you with this pistol" he took out his service pistol and jerked it on the women's head.
'OMG...Did he finally lose it? I do hear that this person is someone chief cherished most' Deputy Hans thought, and he lunged towards Ray to stop him from shooting at the corpse. But he was too late. Ray took the shot, but towards the roof. And the person who's supposed to be dead falls to the side, in an attempt to escape the bullet. (even though it wasn't aimed at her). Still, she was grinning.
"How'd you know, Ray," She asked with a still grinning face. It was kind of creepy. She looked like some kind of psycho looking like that.
"I mean, it's pretty obvious, isn't it? You purposefully left clues for me to solve this mystery." Ray said, proud of his deduction abilities. "The pen is positioned on your left hand, the same side as your bullet wound. If you had been dead, you should be holding the gun, not the pen"
"Wow...glad to see you still don't miss a thing, when it comes to a perfect mystery."
"And I'm glad that my last task in this town would be arresting you"
"haha...very funny ray. You think I would do something to get arrested, Ray. After all these years, you still don't know me" She laughed. "Haah. What should I even expect from him? Sorry to ruin your expectations, Ray."Let me introduce myself again. I am Rachel Stewart, an acclaimed criminal lawyer, currently working in WISE. The same organization you are about to join from tomorrow. And this suicide was just a screening test." Rachel gave a very proud speech as if she prepared it specifically for this event.
"Meh...I thought as much. " and Ray destroyed her confidence with just one sentence. "you wouldn't have the courage to do this unless someone was backing you. I deducted that as much."
"wow. he's even better than you said, ms. Lawyer" Rachel heard one of the members say. that was when it struck her, she was still on call with the WISE.
"shut up old man. Can't you see that she's a bit embarrassed." a woman said with a giggle. "this is why I always say to this girl " never try to get together with your ex. I say Never..."
"and there she goes with her old lady complex again. you are not even turned twenty dummy. why are you talking like an old"
and their conversation continued on call. and Rachel got real awkward to even talk with Ray, she was so confident, she could fool Ray, but failed miserably.
