Kyle McDade
"I'm telling you, ma'am, we're already bogged down with unresolved cases, and we can't afford to make finding your dog a top priority right now."
"What are you people talking about? My husband and I have been raising it for about 9 years. To us, it is more like a son. When my son left the house, I came here to register a complaint, but you did nothing, and now... you're still acting this way? Who should I consult if even the cops are acting like this?!"
"We understand, ma'am, but I'm just telling you—"
"What exactly is going on here?" I went to where I noticed a woman arguing.
"It's nothing at all, Chief. It's a minor issue." The officer stated.
"It doesn't look like that to me."
"It's only —" "I am the Chief Detective Superintendent, Kyle McDade," I stated. " And what is your name, Ms... "
"It's Martha... Martha Campbell. I was just asking him to look for my lost dog. "
"— And I was just saying..."
"Yeah, yeah, I heard what you were saying, but is that how you talk to a civilian who is looking for a missing family member?"
"But... I apologise, Chief McDade."
"Tell her that."
"I truly am sorry, Ms. Martha." He made a small bow.
" — And, Ms. Campbell, don't be afraid and file a complaint. We will notify you once we have found... "
"James. His name is James. "
"We will notify you once we find him."
"Thank you, officer. I am extremely grateful. Please, find him. "
"Sure. Have faith in us, ma'am. " She then left after filing a missing pet report.
After she had gone, the young cop approached me, "But, chief, we will be busy with—"
"I know what you're thinking, Otis, but it doesn't mean we can overlook the common folk, does it? It is our responsibility to manage any budding problems in society, large or small, and never forget that everyone who comes to us has a story of their own. We may dismiss it as merely an animal, but imagine how heartbroken your parents would be if you ran away from home as a child. For her, that dog was something that cured her of that depression, and now, even that has gone missing. Her heart must be in agony right now. Human emotions are not that simple."
"I-I get it now, Chief McDade." He gave a salute.
"Why are you suddenly becoming motivated? And just call me Kyle. I might end up marrying my daughter to you."
"That's even more of a reason for me to respect you, sir."
"This sly little... give Jess a call. She thinks I'm the one binding you up in this office all day. But don't get too cosy with each other. "
"Yes, sir! Chief... If you don't mind me asking, do you have a daughter complex? "
"Otis, if you show your face for another two days, I will kill you." This kid is inexperienced, and he may be extremely self-centred at times, but he has a great heart. But I need to observe him more to determine if he's the right guy to take my daughter's hand.
"It is time for the meeting, Chief McDade." From behind, another cop called out to me.
"Coming right up," I said, as I opened the door to one of the rooms where five officers were standing and a little drafting board was at the end of the room.
"Chief, what do you think we should do?"
"What is there to think about? We simply need to continue our investigation and monitor them based on the most recent evidence. "
"However, today's raid... Do you think we'll be able to catch the boss? "
"No, today's raid is probably going to fail, which is why I didn't request a backup."
"Then why? Why are we putting ourselves in this position? We could wait longer until we have more credible information to work with." Do these young buns think I'm being reckless?
"This is a step in the right direction to find their boss and their motivation all along, and don't worry, the information he presented and the plan he devised will work."
"How can you be so certain of yourself when you haven't even revealed the source?"
"That won't be necessary, and... are you questioning my decisions? You've got some guts, boy. But don't worry, I'll take full responsibility if this doesn't work out in our favour. " I say this, but I'm also feeling a little anxious. I contacted him again to confirm, but he didn't answer the call. However, going back to that time, I believe it is doable if it is him.
"How can you have so much trust in him, chief?"
"Trust? I don't trust him. I simply follow him."
