As her eyes lit up with excitement she motioned for everyone to follow and picked a big enough space to make her mastercraft of a school. As she started explaining how earth magic is used and it's many different applications; she started talking about the spell Construct Framework which everyone saw Charlemagne used in conjunction with Minor Geo Manipulation to make the small mansion he did last night.
She explains that that is only just scratching the surface of the great utility that comes with earth magic. She speaks of a improved version of the spell that allows for someone to make an entire house with just the single spell and no other help called Build Home. But the spell she was going to use was an improved version of even that spell called Make Mansion.
Hinami uses Minor Geo Manipulation to make a small replica of the school that she is going to build for them with Make Mansion. She shows that there will be 3 distinct buildings each one will be created with Make Mansion. However 2 of them will be specifically for sleeping and eating and living in, and only one will be actually used for schooling.
Once everyone understood it she looked towards Charlemagne and told him, "Fun fact both Build Home and Make Mansion have an extra use that Construct Framework doesn't. When casting either of the spells you can build into the the buildings themselves fully working plumbing and electricity that are self-sufficient and self-contained to each building. So this will be the first taste of the future that everyone will get."
As she focused she dropped down to one knee and placed her hand on the ground. As she took in one deep breath she charged up the spell and ask you release that breath she use 3 simultaneous castings of Make Mansion to build the school that she had desired. The buildings had a very distinct look to them as they were almost a combination of mainly Japanese, Chinese, and Korean architecture definitely of the era that they were currently in however it also had kind of a slightly fantasy like look to it. He couldn't deny though it was beautiful. When the other villagers saw it, she made a sign to go out in front of it in the languages that both the Romans and the tribes people could read.
However she quickly learned that most of them didn't know how to read and instead Charlemagne change the language to English. The name was still the same it was just in English. It was called the Sunshine Arcane Academy.
Charlemagne immediately pulled his mother's side and requested, "Do you think it would be possible if you and I work together to make homes for some of the people while teaching the kids what I had said? We could also have the kids watch us do it and teach them how as we go. I just think it would take some of the workload off of me and I can focus on making homes that count for power and water going forward knowing that the ones you make will already come with it."
She gave a nod and told him, "Sure thing. By the end of the month to everyone in the village will have working lights and water. I think we should also see about teaching most of the villagers how to read."
Charlamagne agreed, "Absolutely and I'm already ahead of you. I want to teach them the language of where I came from before I was reborn here. I miss speaking it with someone that isn't Lola who only can copy what I say. Having a language that everyone in the village and speak together would unify everyone a bit better."
Hinami started to hug him tightly again proud of her son and his forward thinking, "That's my son. Let's help trying to modernize this bitch. Got any other bright ideas in that head of yours?"
"Just one actually but I think I should talk with dad about it," he pulled out of his robe 9mm pistol that he spent all night crafting with Lesser Transmutation and Minor Geo Manipulation. He worked very meticulously recreating every piece from memory and assembling it together like he had been taught when he went through boot camp.
The second she saw it she knew what it was. Of course she knew it just by looking at it because back where she came from guns were her specialty, but in this world they didn't exist yet. Her God had taught her how to kill with every weapon in the known universe and when it came to firearms she was one of the best. It brought her joy to see a gun again, but she also knew that if not handled correctly it could completely shift the balance of power in this world right now. Which would draw more attention to them, but then she looks at Charlemagne and remembers his words. She trusted and if he thought this would help she would support him like a good mother always does.
She uses his hand to put that back in his robe, "Not going to lie, I love your line of thinking but maybe hold off on that for at least a week or two. Let me discuss it with your father and see whether or not it would be a good idea. Now let's get to today's lesson with the kids like you had thought of."
She was trying to do her best to be supportive while also being worried. For now though they both agree to get to teaching the children some of the spells that he had mentioned beforehand.
In no time the seasons changed from fall to winter as 3 months went by. Charlemagne had actually made a lot of strides helping his mother with the school and with building up the town alongside her. He had actually taught most of the children basic English and how to read the alphabet and about 7 or 8 of the adults had actually got the hang of it too.
He was happy with this development as his plan was to try and ease tensions by giving everyone a common language that they could speak and interact with each other using. So far it was helping but this was only just a way to bridge that gap. He knew it wouldn't be the ultimate cure for the tension that was still there even after all this time.
After discussing things with his father they moved ahead with the idea of creating and training those who showed the most promise in how to use firearms. They had put together a full platoon of people both that had been rescued and that was a part of the tribe and taught them what guns were and how they worked. Charlemagne made each of them handguns and each of them rifles. They were also trained in how to use knives. At the same time Vaxalyn had his wife built him a blacksmithing and had Charlemagne transmute some dirt into different types of metal ingots so he could craft better weapons and armor for the village.
The village itself was almost unrecognizable as if it was a mixture of the modern and the fantastical. Under Charlemagne and his mother's tutelage the children that could use magic put their craft to the test by actually helping to create homes together with what they were taught. And the best of all Charlemagne make sure to build himself the home for just him so he can finally move out of his parents' house and he made it a group project for the entire class.
The entire village at this point had their huts replaced by these new modern homes with working lights and running water. Life in the village was far improved and the villagers only really needed a reliable source of food which was being handled by the fact that a part of their massive clearing along the coast was being converted into farmable land making use of the fertile soil. However it was winter and despite the fact it was not snowing here the temperature was able to reach as low as 50°F.
Luckily hunting in the forest was still as easy as it had always been for them and the fish were still biting along the coast. Now it also served as help with training on hitting moving targets for those that were allowed to learn how to use firearms.
Charlemagne found himself finishing up class for the day for some of the children as he had been working on teaching them a very useful spell called Conjure Lesser Familiar. He used the lesson to show them how to summon a familiar created from a portion of their own soul and how to also use to bind a existing animal to them as a familiar transforming it and extending its lifespan. He used the spell to summon baby wyvern which surprised even him as it was a creature born from his own soul. He ended up naming the creature Blaze.
He also used the same spell to show how it can bind an existing creature to the caster, and used it to bind Lola to him. This transformed Lola slightly and she still look like a raven however red lightning sparked between her feathers and when she flew through the sky she left a trail of black flames from her tail feathers that turned into smoke. From there his thoughts in the thoughts of his familiars were linked and he demonstrated to the class how that could be used. Mainly by having their familiar cast spells that they know through them to make themselves a bit more versatile on the battlefield if need be or to still get work done while being somewhere else.
However as his students left with class being over, he began to head to his home to practice spells that he had wanted to work on learning. He wanted to learn the spells that his mother had been using to help him completely modernized the town knowing that it would be useful going forward in the future. She had given him most of her old grimoires that she had studied in her youth and he had transcribed all of the spells into his own grand grimoire to study in his downtime.
Charlemagne's home was not like some of the others in town. My mother wanted to make him a small castle fit for a future leader but he declined. He chose a very small and comfy home similar to the one he lived in during his time in Japan which he considered the best time of his life.
He went to his study to collect his grimoire and left his familiars in the living room so they could relax. He walked outside and began studying while practicing.
Build Home was not the only spell he was practicing, but there were spells that he needed to learn in between that he would need to know in order to reach the level of power Build Home required to properly master. Outside of those spells he was also practicing other elemental spells, so that he did not slack up on any of them. He wanted to specialized more in Elemancy for now before branching out to some of the others a lot more than he has been.
He spent over 2 hours studying and practicing before his Lunja came to see him. Seeing her walk up to him he stopped training to hear what she wanted.
Lunja smiled and use the chance to practice her English but it was still somewhat broken English, "Hey Charles. You papa want me to tell you to come. He say important."
Charlemagne patted her head and said, "Not bad. You still need to work on it, but you're showing improvement over last week which is a good sign. Can you take me to so I can I see what it is that he needs?"
She gave him a nod and began to lead the way. He saw his father and the platoon that was being trained how to use firearms waiting for him. His father smiled at him when he arrived and thanked Lunja who stuck around to watch them train but at a safe distance. Vaxalyn asked Charlemagne for assistance in English as he wanted to make sure that the platoon learn the language as well so they could work better together, "Hey the platoon thought that it would be a good idea if you could give a demonstration for them in the how effective guns can be in combat. I was hoping you could show them something that would help them figure out why this training is actually really useful with helping defend against future threats. You up for it?"
"Sure. I'll demonstrate using a practice gun with rubber bullets so no one actually has to worry about getting really hurt. Just a moment," Charlemagne said before reaching down and collecting a bunch of sticks and rocks and dirt and using Lesser Transmute to convert it into enough pieces to build a training pistol and some rubber bullets.
He then stands and orders, "You all are very familiar with the just how deadly these weapons are. When you land your shots at least, since you've already been practicing on live animals. But you need to be able to land those hits in order to make good use of the devastating power of such a weapon. A normal man when faced up against a weapon like this will always fall, so long as you are able to hit your shots. Given that magic exists and there are creatures out there far stronger than normal men; I'm not so certain of the power of these weapons in those cases. But against the Roman army these weapons will massacre them should they come back........ So all of you start running and I'll show you the importance of landing your shots."
Realizing that he was about to use them as target practice they all started to run not knowing whether or not the rubber bullets would hurt. With a somewhat wicked smile he began taking aim and immediately had shooting all of the closest members. The sting of the rubber bullets hit with enough impact to hurt enough for them to understand that a real bullet would be almost 10 times much more deadly and painful.
Those that were farther away were not out of his range as he was able to still headshot each of them. By the time he had took down half of the platoon the other half at got far enough away and were using actual cover like they were trained to use.
The sight of them actually putting some of their training to work was wonderful, but it would not help them against Charlemagne. As he took off in a dash he was able to close distance with most of them in a matter of seconds to fire point blank shots at them and safely reload his rubber bullets in between. They realize that his speed alone even without enhancements through magic was far superior to theirs. Not to mention his accuracy with his practice gun was perfect.
In only a minute or two he had shot each member of the platoon in a vital places mostly headshots though. His rubber bullets hit with just the right amount sting to them that would help paint the picture that his father wanted. With the demonstration over he could see that the platoon made their way back over. They now have understood why were the firearms were so important, and just how much more pain they could inflict than spears and swords.
With that Charlemagne gave a bow to his father and began to walk back home. Lunja followed him curious to watch what spells that he would practice.
