A/N: Hello! I wasn't sure I was going to be able to put this chapter all in one part, but I did. (Whoo!) That being said, there might be a need for some milk at the end of this chapter and if enough people can't take the heat, I will make it mature... That is all, Enjoy!
~
"Dee what are you doing here?" I walked into Bill's house with furrowed brows as I saw long, blond locks of hair and then a worried expression on a pretty face.
"Maddy! I'm so glad to see you're okay!" Dee sat up from her chair and ran to give me a hug.
As she wrapped her arms around me, I got a whiff of her perfume, some kind of flower that was once beautiful, but had all its essence squeezed out and put in a bottle so, a man like me can make simple remark.
"You smell nice." I mumbled.
I didn't really know what else to say. I looked passed her to see Bill, with a small smile on his face and George had his nose scrunched up. I felt like I was in one of those bad dreams, where I was naked in front of a crowed of strangers, except this one was worse because I actually knew these people.
"Sit." George simply said.
I nodded and sat on one of the kitchen chairs. Bill, George, and Dee all sat around me. I opened my mouth to apologize, but the scent of strawberries caught my attention and my head snapped to the door.
"Before you start feeling guilty, we all know what you are." He came in the door dripping from head to toe.
I stood up and frowned knowing that his current appearance was entirely my fault.
"Try not to drench the house, Vasiliev," George growled.
Greyson popped off his wet sneakers and stood next to me.
"It's also pretty evident what he is. I mean, come on, he reeks of it." George continued.
"Dude, be nice." Bill lightly shoved his roommate.
"Hold up.” Waved her hands around to grab the others attentions. “I don't know what Maddy is and I'm pretty sure Maddy doesn't know either."
I could tell Dee was not happy with the looks George was giving and possibly the fact that everyone had completely ignored her when I walked in.
"What are you doing here?” Greyson asked taking notice of Dee for the first time. “As far as you're concerned Maddy is fine."
"Excuse me?" Dee sassed.
I looked at her with wide eyes.
Oh no. Greyson shouldn’t have said that.
Dee brought out mama bear as she got out of her chair to poke her manicured nails in Greyson’s face. "As far as you're concerned anything Maddy related is my business. And if you think you can waltz right in and take that away from me, then I will personally make it my life long goal to make your life a living hell."
There was silence for a beat.
Dee and Greyson glared at each other the other two boys in the room started to crack up.
"Before World War Three starts, I'd just like to point out that we're here to help Maddy." Bill said when the Dee and Greyson started bickering again.
"Mind your own business!” They shouted in unison.
“Watch your mouth.” George growled on behalf of Bill.
"Guys," I tried to intervene, but my voice was too low.
"Calm down Jager.” Greyson snarled. “And stop acting all high and mighty, you’re no pack leader."
"This is still my house," George glared at Greyson.
"Your house?” Bill snapped his head toward George. “I’m pretty sure we pay the same amount of rent. Also do me a favor and stop fighting my battles."
"Guys..." I tried again.
My gut twisted I couldn’t help get the feeling that somehow all of this arguing was my fault.
"Honey,” Dee wrapped her arms around my bicep. “It's best you just let duke it out and we can quietly leave."
She tugged me toward the door, but I remained firm. If these guys had any clue as to what was wrong with me, then I was going to stick around and find out.
"Guys!" I shouted surprising myself and everyone else.
I heaved a bit before continuing. This crap has gone on long enough
"I get that you know what the hell I am, but I don't and for over ten years this girl," I pointed at Dee. "Has been cleaning up my messes. So, Greyson don't you dare try and stall just because you don’t want her to hear."
"You're a hybrid." Greyson let out an exacerbated sigh.
I didn't say anything. A hybrid? What does that even mean?
"Um, care to elaborate pretty boy?" Dee looked at Greyson like he had grown an extra head. She was acting tough, but I could feel her grip tighten on my arm.
"First you should probably know about me and them." He pointed at Bill and George.
"We’re werewolves, Greyson is a vampire and Maddy you’re a rare mix of both." George said crossing his arms and leaning back in his chair.
“Y’all are nuts,” Dee tugged at my arm once more. “Come on Maddy, before the sun comes out and pretty boy turns into a disco ball.”
"No," I said shaking my head and seething shortly after. The mark on my neck still burned from sudden movements.
"Maddy what's that?" Dee asked reaching for my mark, but I quickly slapped her hand away.
"Did you bite him?!" Bill’s jaw nearly dropped to the floor.
"It's not like I meant to do it on purpose! He was being difficult!" Greyson raised his arms up in defense.
"You know what that means, don’t you?" George narrowed his gaze at my neck.
"Yeah, but it’s not permanent so, no harm no fowl." Greyson shrugged
"What are you all talking about? Can we please stick to one problem at a time?"
All of this was getting too confusing. They kept jumping from topic to topic and I couldn't catch up. Not to mention I still didn't get the whole Hybrid thing. The word "monster" echoed in my head as they spoke.
"Everything else can be explained in time, what we really need to figure out is why is someone targeting you." Greyson sounded serious.
"Someone's after Maddy?" Dee scoffed. “I doubt it, Maddy is different, sure, but that doesn’t mean he’s being hunted down because of it.
"Monster." My Father shouted in my head. I blinked hard. I was just hearing things. It wasn’t true.
"Are you blind as well as dumb? George narrowed his gaze at Dee. “It's pretty evident something is going on, they burned down his damn house."
"Why? Because he’s some sort of mutt?" Dee asked. "No Offense, Maddy."
Offense taken.
"Yes." All three boys stated.
"Monster." My mother's shrill voice screeched the walls of my brain. I bit the inside of my cheek to keep me focused. It wasn’t true. I wasn’t true.
"Nobody likes a mixed breed. Too much of a deadly combo." Bill explained.
"If they find you, they will probably kill you." George added. "Although, it's obvious they know where you are. The fact that they haven't killed you yet, is strange.
"Jager is right, we're probably going to have to hide you somewhere." Greyson nodded at George and looked over at me with concern.
My breath started to go uneven. What? Why would anyone want to kill me? I didn’t do anything. I’m no one. I’m nothing.
"Wait, wait! No one is taking Maddy away from me!" Dee’s hand reached for mine and I squeezed it tightly.
There was no need for talking she understood immediately.
"Would you rather let him get killed?!" Greyson was grew angry.
"Monster." My parents yelled in unison.
No. No. Shut up. Shut up!
"Would you shut up! You're scaring him!" Dee yelled! "You might be totally calm about the whole dead thing or whatever, because you’re dead, but some of us are normal. You can’t just sit here all casual, talking about how my best friend might die!
"Monster." The voices in my head turned wicked, as if they enjoyed my inner turmoil.
"Are you kidding me? You have obviously been watching too much crap on T.V.!" Greyson slammed his fist on the table. "I am very much alive, just as you are. And does it look like we’re just messing around? This is serious. You’re the one trying to shield Maddy from the truth!"
"Monster. Monster. Monster." They giggled and sneered.
Stop. Please. I can’t take it anymore.
"MONSTER." The voices echoed in my head until I couldn’t hear anything else.
I squeezed my eyes shut, but it wouldn’t stop.
“Shut up!” I yelled and everyone grew quiet.
I looked over Greyson, his angry expression, softened.
"Excuse me for a second." I mumbled before running upstairs and locking myself in another room. I pressed my back against the door and hugged my knees.
The doorknob jiggled and my breathing hitched.
"Maddy I'm sorry we freaked you out. Can you open up the door?" Greyson was calm and collective. Yet I knew when he knocked on the door a few times, his patience was growing weary.
"Vasiliev, if you break another one of my doors you're going to be paying for it." George shouted from the first floor. He hadn’t bothered to come upstairs
"Maddy, Honey, it's me." Dee said worried. "Can you open the door?"
They all tried to coax me out, but I wouldn't listen. At least in here the voices stopped and I could think straight again. I stared around the room for a bit. I wasn't sure if it belonged to Bill or George.
The room was painted dark blue, which evidently matched their bedding. I smiled looking at their band posters. There was a small bookshelf next to a night stand and my smile grew wider, we shared a lot of the same interests.
"If you're going to have a mental breakdown, do you mind doing it in someone else's room?" George called out again.
Wait? This was George's room? Guess there’s more to the guy then his grumpy exterior.
"George, don't be a jerk." Bill yelled back.
"Maddy, what if you opened the door and I come in? No one else, just me.” Dee pressed her nails against the door. “We could just talk, or jump out the window and run away."
"Oh, so that's where he got the idea from." Bill laughed.
I squeezed my eyes shut. I wanted to let her in. Dee wasn’t the problem the others were, but what if the fighting started up again.
“Let her in, she’s harmless.” The voice from the bathroom returned and I snapped my eyes open. I was still very much alone.
I took a deep breath and unlocked the door. Dee was about to walk into the room when she was suddenly thrown backwards.
"WAH!" It was a weird sound she made as Bill caught her in his arms. Greyson quickly came into the room and locked it. He looked at me before shouting at the door.
"Leave."
"No, let me speak to Maddy!" Dee banged on the door. "Maddy honey, I'm coming-"
"LEAVE." Greyson repeated with more authority.
"No. Wait what?!... OMG I'm in the air…OMG put me down!" Dee squealed as Bill hoisted her up and left the hallway.
After the sound of footsteps disappeared, Greyson turned toward me. His face remained serious as he wrapped a hand around my neck, and kissed me hard.
I was already put on a big enough emotional roller coaster for one day, so when he kissed me, all my defenses dropped and I just let his lips pursue mine.
"I'm sorry," He whispered resting his forehead against me. "You're probably scared out of your mind and fighting wasn't helping the situation.”
His eyes searched mine for a response. When he didn't get one, he went in for another kiss.
"Why do you do that?" I asked pulling my head back.
"What?" He looked hurt.
"Do you assume you can just kiss me and that will make everything better?"
I placed a hand on his chest and tried to push him away from me.
"No, I don't," Greyson held onto the hand against his chest.
"Did you think that when you walked in here, I wouldn't be able to resist you. That I'd make out with you, even take my shirt or something?"
"I-I thought you would like it, Greyson gave me a soft smile.
"I'm serious Greyson.” I huffed. “I can understand that this world is filled with all sorts of things other than humans, but to find out I'm not even wanted by my own kind makes me feel even worse!"
I sniffled as tears prick the ends of my eyes. "I'm a monster."
I never wanted this life. Every time I think I’m close to finding normalcy, I realize more and more that I could never have it.
Why?
"Maddy look at me." Greyson's tone was firm, but I kept my eyes on the bookshelf beside me. "Maddy, Look. At. Me."
Greyson's hand interlocked with mine and I slowly turned to face him.
"Can you feel it?"
He moved my hand up to his heart. I could feel a steady rhythm, but it was much slower than a human heart.
“You and I aren’t that different. We still have hearts and we are still good. How many monsters do you know that can say the same thing?” Greyson lifted my chin with his other hand.
I shrugged.
"You're not unwanted Maddy. I want you. I need you. Dee needs you, even Bill and George."
"Even George?" I asked doubtfully.
"Even George," Greyson caressed my cheek. He leaned down and kissed where he bit me.
It didn't sting when his lips made contact with my skin. He pulled me into a tight hug and wrapped his strong arms around me. His clothes were wet and so were mine, making the closeness between us slightly uncomfortable. After a beat, he let go of me and I was already longing the sweet scent of strawberries.
"We should go back," He mumbled.
I nodded.
As Greyson turned to leave, I did something stupid.
I yanked the collar of his shirt and turned him back around. He shell-shocked as I stood on my tippy toes and kissed him.
"Now, it's my turn to leave you hanging." He stepped back and walked out the door with a cheeky grin on his face.
I just stared at the room, wide-eyed.
Not a second later did he turn back around and run right back to me. "Nope, I lied. I know when I should seize the moment."
He lifted me up and I wrapped my legs around him. He kissed me passionately and I kissed him back, cupping my hands on his face. My fingers tangled in his hair and his hands squeezed the back of my thighs.
It was obvious that when Greyson bit me. Something inside the both of us changed. When we were this close, I could feel his emotions, I could sense what he wanted. No, what he needed.
Me.
