The Queen's A King

Chapter 3 Part 2

Chapter 3 Part 2

Aug 19, 2022

It was very dark & I felt sick. The darkness was almost suffocating to me; it was like I was fighting to breathe. "Hey." Mytel whispering to me snapped me out of it. "You got that suffocation feeling, didn't you?" I nodded slowly, trying to regain my breath. "You did a good job making this. I'm very impressed. This is some pretty high level stuff, it's flashier than I would have done it, but it still works." he says quietly. I made this space? I'm in too much shock to say anything. A dim light inside the tree somehow flickers as if its wiring in faulty; somehow, we could see the inside of the tree with minimal issues. There was somehow enough space inside to where Mytel & I could stand across from eachother comfortably. Speaking of Mytel, he was practically glowing. He seems taller this time, with his animal ears lightly twitching while his tail remains stagnant; his eyes seem to glow brightly as he took a deep breath. "It's incredible... the raw energy here... absolutely perfect." There was a slight growl mixed in his voice that did unspeakable things for me. I feel my face flush & felt my jaw go slightly slack. Just rests his weight on his side of the tree, a blissful look on his face as he seemingly soaked in the air around him; there was a golden shimmer around his body. "You look..." I don't have the words to explain it. Mytel gives a soft chuckle. "I look... what?" He gives me a look like a curious puppy, head tilted to the side in question; he has to be messing with me right? Was that a smirk on his face? "S-Stunning... t-that's the closest word I have to it anyway..." I muttered. His eyebrows moved in confusion, but then I saw a huge smile cross his face, as he snorted out a little laugh. I felt my heart sink for some reason, as a new wave of anxiety hit me. "I-I'm sorry, I don't mean to laugh!" he says, snickering. "I'm, heh, I'm impressed that in a situation like this, you find a way to ease the tension-!" there was a thunk in the tree. A silver arrow head was sticking straight towards me; my legs gave out & I slumped down to the floor. Mytel broke the arrow head off, then cupped his hand around the stuck end. After muttering something & removing his hand, a new arrow head was there. "It's ok. This will help us." I struggle to stand up & Mytel offers his hand. As I take it, I hear something that makes my blood run cold.
"See him?"
"Negative. You?"
"Negative... shit!"
---------------------.
"Remember, w-"
"Yeah, yeah, yeah, we have until he gets his powers. But we're running out of time. He could have them now for all we know."
---------------------
"How?"
"Aside from a Merlin here, there's the Guardian to contend with. She was S-"
There were these weird, extended pauses between the two voices sometimes. "Fine. Let's regroup then. Hopefully, we've done enough so far. Calling extraction." There was a sound like rushing wind & then silence. "Archer... we should go." Mytel said soon after, pushing the door to the tree open. I made a hesitant glance out, then walked out, looking all around me. I heard a loud squeaking sound & a violent slam of the door, which made me jump. "Hey, you alri-" I gave Mytel a sharp glare, but I suddenly felt all this pressure release from my body. I fell to the forest floor & started sobbing uncontrolably. "A-Archer!?!" I frantically wiped at my eyes as I dry heaved for a second. "I... I-I-I almost died... who would've-why would someone try &-" I could barely wrap my head around it. "Here... let me take you home. Alright?" There's a gentle energy around Mytel that makes me trust him. I steady my feet & follow him out of the woods.

"So... where's your car?" I shook my head. "I didn't... I got dropped off here. We're a while away from my place... I thought you were driving here." Mytel chuckled nervously. "Fair enough... here, we can go in... that one." he points to a newer looking SUV. As we walked towards the car, I notice a similar one next to it. "You wanna drive?" Mytel asked. I gave him a confused look. "Huh? But I thought you said-" There was suddenly an identical car next to the one he pointed out. I was speechless for what felt like the thousanth time. "Don't like the color? Yeah, me neither. How's about royal blue? Or dark denim? Oh yeah, dark denim." in an instant, the car was a dark denim color & he got in the drivers seat. I hesitantly followed inside; the car had a pretty black interior & smelled new. "S-Something in me says this might be illegal... in some way or another." Mytel laughed. "Don't worry, I'm a great driver." he says, backing out of the parking space. "H-How did you-" he chuckled. "Short version; I made a copy of the car next to us that responds to me & anyone else I choose." he muses. "You can have it if you want it." I forced a cough. "N-No thanks... do you know who was-" the car's phone rang & the name was writen in various swirls & shapes that I couldn't identify. "Crap... this isn't a good ti-" "Answer it." I say sternly. With a sigh, Mytel looked at me. "Don't be too mad at him." he said, but still answered the phone. "Be advised that he's in the car with me." there was a groan on the other end of the call. "Damn it Mytel... I wanted to-" "DAD!" I shouted so loud, I could feel the strain in my throat; tears welled up in my eyes. "Hey kiddo... how are you?" I got incredibly angry. "You didn't think that maybe, just maybe that I deserved to know about Mom!?! Oh my god, does Mahalo know?" he sighed. "Well, you wasted no time telling him." Mytel gave me a saddened look. "Apologies Your Highness... unfortunately, my hands were tied in that manner. But I assume that's not why you're calling." Dad went quiet. "Archer, I'm sorry. Your mother did'nt want to say anything until the crowning... hell, it was even in her will." he said sadly. "But then the Broken Circle started poking around... it was too dangerous to do it all remotely. I had to go over. I sent Mytel to keep an eye on you but it seems like that war horse couldn't sit still. I thought things wold be settled faster than this & that I could show you properly... but that may have to wait." He took a deep breath. "I'm texting the girls. Mytel, you bring him here safe, along with whatever he want's to bring understand." my dad then started speaking in some weird language that I didn't recognise. "Understood Your Highness." I was so upset that I was crying again. "I really am sorry kiddo. But you gotta listen to this part; it's important. Remember our old time out room? Ask it to show you your Mom's room ok?" I was lost. "W-Why?" Dad went quiet. "You'll find some proof & things for you in there. But don't be mad about the name ok...?" I gulped.
"I-I'll see you again right? ... Dad, right?"
"Wha... y-yeah, of course ki-"
"Promise me."
"Archer..."
"Please... just promise."
"Ok... ok. I promise Archer."
I wiped my tears. "I have to go. We'll see each other soon. Knighted together." "By the sisters forever." Mytel hung up after responding to my father. "Ok, so back to your place I suppose? Are you hungry? We can get food first if you want." I gave a slow nod. "Y-Yeah... I should probably eat something. We can go where ever you want." glancing at him, he had a large grin. "Alright then."

All I felt like I could stomach was a kids meal. Mytel got one too, but also ordered 2 extra fries; as we left the drive through, he handed me his toy. "I figured you'd want it... it looks like something you'd like." I smiled at him. "Thank you." he chuckled. "It's an honor to have your thanks & appreciation..." Something about how he said it made me feel awkward. "Could you maybe... not act super different towards me...?" he blinked a few times, but his posture shifted to a more relaxed one. "Sorry... our first interaction was very atypical... oh, we're here." He pulls into the driveway & the garage door opens somehow. I notice that Mahalo & Justice's cars are gone; there's no trace of them inside either. "So... where's this room?" Mytel asked. "It's in the basement." I said, opening the door that lead to the basement area. "When I was little, my anxiety was really, really bad. Dad made me a little panic room essentially... I wold put all my favorite things in there, & it was like my second room. I slept in there a lot of nights." It was somewhat hidden, so after palming around on a wall, I found it. "But... after Mom died it got worse... so I'd stay here. She kept a few of her little things in here too, so I felt like she was always here..." Mytel & I had to crouch low to get into the space; the inside was a decent size so we could stand upright inside it. Everythign had a wood like texture to it & fairy lights dangled above; there were fake clouds hanging from a thin wire inside too. "Dad is really good with making things, so it was all like voice activated & stuff, based on what I wanted. So if I said thunderstorm-" suddenly, the lights turned off & there was the sound of reain & thunder throughout the space. Lights flashed to create the illusion of thunder. "Are you ready?" Mytel asked. I took a deep breath instead of answering him. "Show me... show me Mom's room." There was a awful noise as I heard my mothers voice for the first time in years. "Welcome back *DEADNAME*."
