SOLANA
"I'll add this to my album."
"You're into taking pictures? You want to be a photographer?"
"What? No, I want to be a mermaid or maybe a star."
"Are you serious?"
I smiled, "Yes. "
"Mom, I'm home!"
I took my shoes off and ran inside to find my mom. I saw her sitting on the couch in the living room looking dejected staring at her phone.
"Mom? What happened?" I asked her with concern.
She looked at me and smiled, "Solana, welcome home."
"Mom, I'm asking you. What happened?"
She stood up and started to push me into the kitchen. "Your dad said he won't be able to come home since he's busy."
"But you cooked his favorite food?" I asked.
"Yes, but it's fine. I'll just save some for him so he can still eat some tomorrow." She replied with a big smile plastered on her face.
"Poor dad, I'll be the first one to taste his favorite dish." I replied, making her laugh. As we arrived at the kitchen, she pushed me down gently to sit. I watched every move she did, observing her. Her demeanor became strange, I noticed that while she’s setting the table, she seemed restless. This is not her usual self, something must’ve happened between her and dad. I’ll just wait for her until she’s ready to tell me what’s wrong.
“Mom, are you taking drugs?” I said to get her attention.
She looked at me, “What made you think that I’m taking drugs, miss?”
“Just admit it, mom. I promise to keep it a secret.” I said jokingly while raising a hand in the air. She threw a crumpled tissue straight to my forehead.
“I’m not telling you, you’re a snitch.” She replied, laughing a little.
“Don’t be too sad, your wrinkles are increasing.” I uttered while giving her a teasing look.
She sat down, “Just eat.”
It’s a good thing that I managed to distract her from whatever she was thinking earlier.
“Mom, I met a new friend.” I stated, while taking rice and placing it onto my plate. I gave her a glance, wondering why she hasn’t replied to what I said. She looked at me with shock in her eyes.
“What? Why aren’t you responding?” I uttered as I shoved a spoonful of rice into my mouth.
“I’m surprised that person agreed to be friends with you. Is it a girl or a boy?” She responded.
“You’re acting like I don’t have any friends, and it’s a girl.” I replied and proceeded to eat.
She raised her brows, “Oh, you have friends? Tell me more about that new friend of yours.”
“She’s very pretty.” I said as I recall what Sel looks like.
“Wow, I can see your gayness overflowing.” She responded.
I glared at her, “Her eyes are almond shaped and she has long and thick lashes.”
“Really? What else?” She asked.
I proceeded to describe Sel as we eat. I described the way she talks, the way she moves elegantly. My mom smiled at me the whole time while giving me a teasing look. I also told her what we talked about, things that would help us get to know each other better. I immediately offered to wash the dishes and clean the table after we finished eating. She immediately disagreed and advised me to take a bath and rest in my room.
“Are you certain? You had the table set earlier. I'll take care of it.” I suggested.
She smiled, “Yes, just go and wash up.”
I quickly obeyed and dashed into my room. I went straight to my room's bathroom to take a shower because I didn't want to lie on my bed dirty, especially after spending so much time outside. I immediately dressed after taking a bath and sat at my study table to review the photographs I had taken earlier. While looking through the photos, I came across one of Sel and me.
“She’s really pretty.” I whispered.
I took another look at the photo before deciding to transfer it to my laptop and print it. I immediately prepared the items I will use for the album after printing. I cut the photos out with scissors, then pasted them into my album and fitted them with various designs. I looked through the photos in the album and closed it as soon as I was finished.
“I’ll make a jar of stars for Sel, and then give to her when the jar’s already full.” I talked to myself. I made strips-like designs out of papers and wrote on them. I jotted down the things that stood out to me when we first met. After earning a total of five stars, I went out and found a large jar in the kitchen. When I found one, I immediately returned to my room to place the stars.
I fixed my gaze on the jar, “I’m going to write down every moment we have together every time we meet until the jar is full.”
I got up and sat down on my bed, staring at the ceiling of my room. It's strange because this is the first time Sel and I have met, but I'm so attached to her. Her name was also familiar, as if I had heard it before and was used to saying it. Our names, sun and moon, are contradictory but still related. An eclipse even occurred during our first meeting; this must be fate.
I just laughed to myself because of what I thought, “I should just sleep, I’m probably just sleep deprived.”
Selene, she's stunning; even her name is lovely.I've lost count of how many times I've said it, but she's really pretty; she appeared to have been well cared for. She clearly grew up in a wealthy family based on how she acted and spoke.I became aware of our differences and how they clashed with one another. It's amusing how not only our names, but also our lives, contradict each other.
Despite our differences, I hope we can stay friends forever…
