"You don't have to be such a bitch Serena. He's just worried, can't you give him a chance?" Roxy suddenly voiced out as we were closing up.
I raised an eyebrow, I realised we didn't really say much to one another the whole day and I've been avoiding Ben's stares as well.
"What chance? I'm not interested in anything right now. I only want you to be happy, seems like you really like Austin," I threw the old batch of ice cream away after recording the end-of-the-day stocks down and she gleamed.
"Yeah I know, he's great. He's really sweet, I realised he's kinda dumb too though. He was the one that crashed into our room right? And saw you-"
"Yes! Yes yes you don't have to spell it out. Both of them are dumb," I concluded and Roxanne stared at me.
"What do you mean both of them are- Ohhh Ben saw you too?!" She squealed and I glared at her.
"Shut up! I feel exposed around them it's embarrassing!" I felt my face freeze up and Roxy laughed.
"You're such a slut Serena, who knew you had it in you?"
I took a deep breath and went to pull the shades to the cafe down. When I was sure no one could see us from outside, I turned to Roxanne and she continued wiping the tables as if she didn't say anything offensive to me.
I swirled a snowball in my hand and she looked up at me, "Hey hey hey don't mess my hair-"
I flung the ball right at her head and she grumbled really loudly.
I laughed, "That's for calling me a slut."
"Ugh!" She wiped the snow off her face and bundled it into a ball, flinging it back at me.
I held the snowball mid-air and she threw the table cloth at me, smacking my face, "I'm sorry! It just slipped out! You know I'm crazy!"
I peeled the cloth off my face and threw the floating snowball back at her, "Well you didn't have to say that!"
"Well you shouldn't have let both guys see you!"
"I didn't mean for them to see me!"
"And I didn't mean to call you a slut!"
I took a deep breath, calming myself down. I felt my core churn out a wave of coolness through me and I felt a tad bit better.
"Okay fine, I'll let it go. I'm just not feeling like myself today," I mumbled.
"Yeah obviously, you were being weird the whole damn day. What's wrong with you? Ben seemed nice to you too."
I shook my head, "Don't push it Roxy, just have fun with sweetie boy alright? I'll be fine here."
She rolled her eyes but didn't talk me into anything else.
Someone knocked on the door and Roxanne went over. She beamed the moment her eyes landed on Austin and I just waved her out.
After cleaning and storing everything, I locked the cafe up. Realising I forgot my stupid key again because I didn't even get the chance to go home to retrieve it.
I sighed and made a makeshift key, locking up the door. I turned to the boys' restaurant and saw the lights were already off.
Well since Austin took Roxy home it meant that Ben should be gone by now too.
I shook my head, sort feelings out. Stop thinking about Ben.
I strode down the streets back home and went by that stupid bar again. Some people were fighting and I sighed. I never had any problems with it. Seems like more weirdos were starting to hang out here.
"Heyyy-"
I groaned, fuck this shit. I'm not going to get into more unnecessary trouble.
I ignored whoever was calling me and quickened my pace.
"Hey! Hey it's that girl!"
I remember that voice, he was the one that slammed on the hood of the car and called out Ben's name.
I turned and saw that guy and two other guys behind him, storming over from across the road at the bar.
I started running but a rough hand pulled my arm and swung me round towards him. The gangster who saw me threw a punch in my face so fast I didn't even have the chance to blink.
I fell to the ground hard and coughed out the blood in my mouth. My head spun and the guy that hit me pulled me up and shook me, "Where is Benjamin?"
I stared hard at him, trying to get my vision to focus.
He slapped me across my face, "WHERE IS BENJAMIN BURNES?!"
My core churned within me, I've had enough of this shit.
I felt a blast of cold fly out of me and the three guys who were in front of me flew at least twenty metres away from me as I crumbled on the ground.
I stood up, my head throbbed in pain but I strode over to the guy who was looking for Ben.
I spit out the blood that was pooling in my mouth and ice formed on my hand, the frost swirling wildly around me.
He somehow managed to end up in a dark alley, groaning next to the rubbish bin.
I stood in front of the idiot, "Don't look for me or Ben again."
I faced my palm towards him, the ice freezing up his right leg as he screamed at the numbness. He shouldn't have messed with me then. I twisted my hand and the ice snapped his knee. He yelped and I knelt down next to him, "Don't worry, it'll hurt more when the cold dies down."
I raised my hand and the ice disappeared, he fainted after that and winced at his mangled leg.
I stood back up, feeling a rush of heat nearby. I turned and saw a man standing there, in the shadows with me.
His eyes and hands glowing red, staring straight back at me.
My core stopped churning, I felt the cold slowly stop rushing throughout my body and my muscles started to relax.
The red from him slowly died out too and the both of us stood there in the shadows, not knowing what to do with one another's presence.
Though I was curious about him, but he was still someone with powers and is as dangerous as I am. I wasn't going to risk getting killed for my own curiosity about a complete stranger.
I took a few steps back, he turned, and both of us ran away. Away from one another. Away from probably the only other person who can understand our powers. Away from ever knowing one another.
And I ran to the place I felt safest. I ran straight back to my cafe.
