Jaime lies on his bed, trying to make himself sleepy. he’s been tossing around for hours but his eyes still refuse to give up yet. He’s scrolling his Instagram. It’s almost spring break and he can see most of his friends post train or aeroplane tickets. There’s a party picture from his high school friends who probably go to university like him. Some of his friends joke around in the comment section of a post. Jaime used to be close to them, partying, sleeping over at their house, some of them even his hooked-up partner. Jaime writes in the comment box.

‘hey, how are you guys?’

He deletes it. Then rewrites.

‘wow, it looks fun! Can I come over next time, I miss you guys’

He deletes it again after he realises they never be actually that close.

Not close enough when none of them actually reach him.

Skylar lied about his subscriber. It’s actually over 10.000!. Jaime scrolls through his feeds. He covered a lot of songs with his guitar. Some with his keyboard. He covered a lot of genres actually–if Jaime sees this bit sooner he probably won’t judge Skylar obsessed with the rock genre only, the man actually very versatile to music taste. Jaime clicks the most recent one, a week ago.

He covered a song from Blink 182 – always.

He looks adorable with a blue beanie on his head, the black electric guitar that Jaime saw in his studio sits on his lap while the red belt slings on his neck, the original song played on the back with low volume and Skylar strums his guitar over the song. As expected, He’s good–superb. He’s bobbing his head as he played, his long hand dancing with agility on the strings. They’re really fast and coordinated. He didn’t miss a beat.

Jaime scrolls another one. He filters with the most viewed. Posted 2 weeks ago. He thought it’s gonna be another cover on the first list, instead, it was Q n A vlog with Skylar’s face smiling awkwardly on the thumbnail. Jaime clicks it in a beat.

“Hello – uh, it’s on already, right? – hello everyone, it’s me again Skyrim in the house” Skylar waves to the camera. The room looks darker than his usual video, the only light probably from the camera flash that lit his face.

“Today is going to be different since I promised you to make Q n A vlog if I reached 10.000 subscribers so I’m going to keep my promise now” Skylar rubs his neck, his habit when he’s shy “I’ll read your comments and answer that as best as I can” Skylar shifts on his chair as he scrolls over his hand phone.

“So the first one is from ‘Jenny Jjang’ ‘ Your covers help me to sleep, I always listen to it every night. Alright, first that does not question” Skylar giggles showing his adorable gums, and his shoulder shakes as he laughs “second, I don’t know if I should flatter or offend, Jenny. I hope it’s not boring enough to make you sleep, yeah?” he jokes “but, I really appreciate that, thank you for listening to it. Honestly, that’s why I keep this channel and keep doing covers. There’s no better praise than someone telling you that your music helps them. If that can help you even just a bit then it’s more than enough reason for me to keep doing this” there’s a pause before he back to his phone.

“Next from ‘Genius rapper man’ ‘ I’m a high school student and I really like your Rapp, your tone really cool and really fast. Can you give me some tips so I can practise? I want to be a good rapper in the future” Skylar stares at his phone for a while before a fond smile quirks on his lips “Yah! What happened to you, I expect some hate comments not a lot of praises like this, how am I supposed to answer this?” Skylar scratches the back of his head, his smile grows bigger and he clears his throat “if you know I’m rapping you probably had been watched my busk because I’m not confident enough to show my rapp here” he laughs bashfully “tips? I’m not good enough to give you tips kid, I also learn from another rapper. But I guess practice is the key. With practice, you’ll be more confident and confidence is the pride of the rapper so.. keep practising. But practice only after your homework is done, yeah?” Skylar giggles before back to his phone.

“Now let’s move to the real question, enough with the praise, yeah?. This one is from ‘Joy Kim’ ‘ Is there someone who inspired you lately?’” Skylar hums and leans back to his swivel chair as he stares at the ceiling, thinking “actually, there’s a lot of people who inspired me, but if you as about recently, I have someone” There’s a pause and Jaime grows curious “I never heard someone sing like him, he has really had a unique voice, I heard that for the first time actually today and he was blown my mind” Skylar explains, Jaime doesn’t want to be overconfident, he’s ashamed when he pre-assumed he know who it was. “but uh – what makes me sad is he said he wasn’t into singing which is no sense because he had such an angle voice but you know, passion is something you can’t be covered up it’ll show through your eyes no matter how hard you try to hide it. And someone with a passion like that always inspires me, even without him saying it out loud. Action speaks louder than the word”

Jaime gulps thickly, there are stings on his eyes, he doesn’t know why he likes to about crying when Skylar probably wasn’t referring to him; he wasn’t talking about him, right? There are a lot of talented singers out there, Skylar probably talked about someone on TV or another YouTuber. But why does it sounds like him, his audition his 2 weeks ago, the day the video was uploaded, and the timeline is matched but-

Jaime shakes his head. He refuses to believe his guts this time

“I’m not expecting it would be this fun, there are a lot of questions I do not answer yet tho, though I’ll make the second part of Q n A how about that? Please don’t hesitate to leave your question in the comment section I maybe answer that in another chance” Skylar said goodbye to the camera and turned it off. Jaime stares at the screen for a while before he starts typing in the comment box.
