The following days after the ceremony the family members came to greet Axel and brought him gifts. Odeus and Miliana did the same for Valrick and Nessir, they even had little play sessions with Axel every once in a while. Elias who was just forced to watch all these events was now bored out of his mind. He began to wonder if he could last for 13 years without going insane. He didn't start panicking though because he considered that to be the worst possible thing he could do in his situation.
Weeks into months went by and things went back to how it was before. However, Odeus wasn't around much as he was before. It seemed that he had been delegating his work in order to spend more time with his newly born child and wife. Now that Axel was almost a year old, he wanted to start working again but not before watching his son take his first footsteps and celebrating his first birthday. By now Axel was great at escaping his mother’s sight to explore the house at his leisure. Miliana would be frantically running after the then fast crawler and now fast runner. They even took trips around the mansion’s garden every once in a while.
Elias thought that for a world of monsters and magic, nothing eventful was happening, until one day Miliana took Axel to his father's office for the first time. When they entered Elias saw one of the men from the ceremony, he still had a sword at his waist. He saw the man helping Odeus put on a suit of armor, it was very fantasy-like. It was a full plated steel armor that bore the family crest which was a dragon spiraling around a Volcano. He then picked up his sword from his desk and attached it to his belt. He was fully prepared to go into battle.
“Look at your father Axel. Dressed up all fancy and ready to protect his people”, Miliana teased.
“Hahaha”, Odeus laughed. “That’s right, the adventurers need me to help them clear the level 8 dungeon. Oh and Axel, you’re in charge until I get back”.
Axel looked at his father curiously and laughed. Now that Odeus was suited up and ready to go, he exited his office with his guard in tow. Miliana and Axel followed Odeus outside to see him off.
“Be safe and come back soon”, Miliana shouted as the two men were about to enter the horse-drawn carriage that was waiting for them.
Odeus stopped and waved back before entering. His guard lowered his head with his right hand over his heart, a salute to Miliana, then he entered and closed the carriage. The two stood and watched the carriage as it left their view.
Elias– or rather, Axel would soon come to know of much of an important figure his father is. In a few years he would take the place of his older brother who was a non-combatant and supersede his father to become His Grace, Duke Odeus Blackstone one of the three dukes in the country. Axel’s family was in charge of the Solcrest Dukedom. The Solcrest Dukedom was located in the southernmost area of the Calaz’ar Empire. The Calaz’ar Empire is the largest of 9 countries on the Zaraphene continent.
Meanwhile, Miliana was admiring the nice atmosphere of the day and decided to have tea and snacks with Axel in the garden. There weren't many opportunities to go outside and Elias was enjoying himself; at the moment it didn’t matter that he had to be floating within 10 meters of his body at all times. The garden was in a bit of a rough state but it was still beautiful. The flowers were separated by color blue, yellow and red flowers were in bloom. The garden was bordered by large fruit trees that were groomed enough to let the perfect amount of sunlight through. However, every plant showed signs that they needed more watering; it was a beautiful garden nonetheless. Elias was enjoying the scenery, that’s when he noticed an attendant approaching from a distance.
The attendant came to the garden but kept his distance from the garden table where Miliana and Axel sat. This was the normal etiquette for attendants who were approaching someone of the family that they were not assigned to. He gave his salute the moment he was at an appropriate distance from Miliana then he stated his purpose for being there.
“Good day Lady Miliana Blackstone and Lord Axelleus Blackstone”, said the man with a nervous expression.
“Good day Steven”, answered Miliana as she glanced in his direction, this gave her attendant Wendi the authority to respond. “Good day Steven. What is the reason you came to address my lady?”
“Ah, yes”, the man quickly replied. “A letter arrived for Lady Miliana”.
Wendi walked towards the man and took the letter. He once again saluted and took his leave. When he left Wendi turned and approached Miliana who had finished her tea and snacks. Axel was quite content eating the last of his biscuit by his mother's side. On the other hand, Elias was quite curious as to why this man was so nervous to hand in a little letter. He went in closer to take a look as Wendi opened the packet and handed Miliana the parchment.
Elias was surprised that he couldn’t read what was written. He quickly realized that it was the first time he had actually paid attention to something that was written in this world. But he did see that she was shocked and upset about what was written. She crumpled it and threw it and tossed it aside. As soon as the letter hit the ground, it burst into flames and ceased to exist. Axel was too caught up in his snack to see what was happening. When Axel was done with his snack she took him and returned to the mansion.
