Three—
"You are such a traitor!"
"I was doing you a favor!"
"How in the world is ambushing me with...him a favor?" I whisper yelled, whacking her in the arm. She pouted, fixing her makeup in the mirror. After the revelation of her plot, I forced her to go to the bathroom with me so I could yell at her.
"You have been in love with him since you were little, but I knew you were never going to work up the courage to talk to him so when I saw an opportunity arise, I couldn't help but take it."
"What opportunity?"
Mel sighed.
"Kai asked Jackson if I had any Omega friends that weren't betrothed to anyone and if he could set him up with one of them, so Jackson asked me to ask you to go on a double date. I thought this was the perfect opportunity for you to actually talk to him and maybe even become his betrothed."
I knew she was only trying to help and under different circumstances, I would have been thrilled. But, I've already talked to him and didn't leave the greatest impression.
"Mel, I have talked to him," I told her finally.
Her head whipped around as she gaped at me in shock.
"When?"
"Last week, right after the incident with the human. When Jackson took you away, I sort of yelled at the human and then told him to 'control his bitch.' Later on, after I saw you guys at the fountain, I ran into him again. He was still with that human. He asked me to apologize to her so I went off on him."
This time, Mel whacked me in the arm.
"Drew!"
"I'm sorry! But seriously, do you really expect me to apologize to a human? Get real. No man, no matter who he is, will ever make me do an act so foul."
Just thinking about it was like acid on my tongue.
Melrose shared my distaste for humans so she knew how felt about it. I guess that's why she sighed and patted my shoulder.
"Well, let's go out there and you can fix your word fart."
I snorted at her but followed her out of the Omega bathroom. The guys were murmuring lowly to each other, it looked like Jackson was apologizing to Kai and Kai looked almost sad. They stopped talking at our approach.
"Took you guys long enough," Jackson snorted, trying to lighten the awkward air. It would've worked if Kai wasn't staring at me so intensely. The attention was making me uncomfortable.
"There was a long line," Mel fibbed playfully.
"Sure there was," Jackson rolled his eyes but smiled.
They settled into a nice conversation, leaving Kai and I in an awkward silence. I was searching for something—anything—to say but my mind was running completely blank.
"May I ask why you dislike humans so much?" Kai questioned me.
Seriously?
Of all topics to talk about, he chooses that one?
"I think I already told you why," I answered surprisingly calmly.
"That is true. Robin told me she didn't mean to offend anyone—"
I cut him off with a raised hand and raised eyebrow. "Are you really going to talk about that filthy bitch on our date? Seriously?"
Kai looked sheepish, "Sorry. Humans are a big no-no."
It was silent again before he asked me another question. This was safer than the last...kind of.
"So, you really didn't know this was a double date?"
I shook my head, "She told me it was a social gathering. Now I understand why she was so adamant about me looking nice."
"I still can't believe you're not betrothed. I could swear a strong, intelligent Omega like yourself would be scooped up the moment you were born."
"Tell that to the Alphas," I muttered.
"Do you have your eyes on an Alpha already? Is that why?"
I froze, staring at him. I searched his eyes for any type of hint. He couldn't know I was in love with him. That's impossible, the only person who knows is Mel and she hasn't even told Jackson...I think. Oh Goddess! She told Jackson and Jackson told him! He's on to me!
"Why do you say that?"
"Because I know quite a few Alphas who have had their eye you for quite some time and they all said you seemed unavailable. Since you're not mated, I figured it was because you were waiting for someone specific."
I sighed.
So he didn't know. That was a relief.
I couldn't have him finding out my secret just yet.
Before I could answer, Jackson and Mel pushed away from the table. "We'll be back in a few minutes," she said, sending me a sly wink. I rolled my eyes at her and watched them leave. Kai scooted closer to the table and closer to me.
"I think that was their not so subtle way of giving us alone time," Kai snorted. I focused my attention back on his ever green eyes.
"I'm not sure being alone with you is going to make that much of a difference in our current situation," I noted absently, taking a sip of my water.
"Why do you say that?" Kai asked, genuine curiosity sculpting those handsome features and burning in those brilliant green eyes of his. I forced my heart not to stutter when I answered.
"Because let's be honest, this isn't going to work out. You and I aren't very compatible, it was clear from the moment I met you."
Oh my Goddess!
Shut up, Drew!
Stupid word farts!
Kai raised a brow looking slightly shocked. I honestly didn't know how to fix it as soon as I said it so I sat there gaping like an idiot.
"We don't really know each other that well, I think we may have a chance if we put a little effort into making this work."
"But...I'm not a high rank Omega."
"So?"
"You're a Promising Alpha. The Elders are looking at you to join once you Pass Over. You need an Omega of high caliber who can stand as your equal. And I'm—"
"Pretty perfect actually. I don't think you give yourself enough credit. You're smart, one of the smartest Omegas I know. And you are loyal, you're quick, fierce, and beautiful. Doesn't that make you an Omega of high caliber?"
I blushed, deeply.
He called me beautiful.
What world are we living in right now? Is it possible to have a future with the man of my dreams? The man I've been yearning for since I was five years old?
"You think I'm b-beautiful?" I mumbled in slight awe.
Kai grinned at me. It was so full of happiness and sincerity, even the dimples on his cheeks were prominent. I nearly melted into the seat.
"You're stunning," he told me earnestly.
When I didn't answer—just stared at him incredulously—his expression became one of worry. The gorgeous smile gone.
"Has no one ever told you that you were beautiful?"
I shook my head slowly.
"Do you even know what the Alphas say about you?"
"I didn't even know they knew I existed," I admitted shyly.
Kai sucked in a breath. "Wow, you have absolutely no idea how desirable you are. The untouchable Omega, sharp tongued and witty with a body that other Omegas' would kill for. They want you, everybody wants you."
I didn't believe him.
I couldn't believe him. There was no way that was true. There was nothing special about me. I didn't excel like Melrose. I wasn't overly attractive. I just blended into the background.
"You don't believe me. I can see it on your face."
I bit my lip unsure of how to respond.
"I asked for this date."
"I know," I responded immediately.
"Do you?" he asked surprised.
"Mel told me that you asked Jackson to set you up with one of her Omega friends. She admitted it to me in the bathroom."
"I knew it was going to be you."
He what?
"I always see you guys together and after doing some digging around, I found out that you were not mated or betrothed. So I made my move."
"You're not serious."
"I am."
I shook my head desperately, getting to my feet shakily. This wasn't happening. Not to me. I couldn't be getting everything I've dreamed of in one night. Not possible.
"Drew?"
And just him staring at me, looking so gorgeous in that black button up and slacks. His shirt was unbuttoned just enough to show that beautiful chest that I just knew had to be hard as a rock.
"Where are you going?"
Being here with him was a mistake. I couldn't keep my hormones in check. I could feel the effects of the suppressors fading away and my hormones were permeating the air.
I had to get away.
Now.
I pushed away from the table and hurried out of the restaurant. I ignored him calling out my name. I needed him to stop, just hearing his voice was sending me into a frenzy.
"Please! Drew, stop!"
I picked up the pace finding myself just touching the trees that led into the forest. We were very far from the restaurant now but I just couldn't stop.
"Drew! Stop! I can't control myself!"
I froze looking back at Kai who was digging his fingers into the bark of a tree, crushing it to splinters. His eyes were flickering from green to red. It was clear he was fighting not to invoke the Chase.
Could I be anymore careless?
I very easily could have died tonight because of my stupidity. He would have chased me until he caught me—which he would have—and killed me.
Kai panted heavily, leaning his back against the tree he half crushed. Sweat was beading on his forehead. It was so obvious that he was in pain.
"Come here," he whispered.
I hesitated.
"Quickly!" He barked, his voice leaking an animalistic undertone.
I hurried over to him afraid of what was going to happen next.
As soon as I was in front of him, he grabbed me roughly, slamming me into his chest. One hand snuck around my waist, the other weaving itself into my hair before he wrenched my head back painfully, exposing my throat.
I shivered at the act.
He shoved his nose against my vulnerable neck, inhaling deeply. I've never been so close to him before. I could feel every ripple of his muscles and it was driving me crazy. His scent was like an aphrodisiac.
"Kai...I can't," I whimpered pressing my hips closer to his.
"Sh," he hushed, his breath tickling the skin of my collar bone.
"Kai." I squirmed trying to hold it in but it was impossible to fight instincts so strong. I was dying to be bred right here in the forest.
"Drew, please be quiet. I need this. Bear with it for a few more minutes," he whispered, dragging his nose along my shoulder.
It was unbearable. This ache. I needed him.
I knew he was simply trying to placate his instincts and I tried to stay quiet but my skin was literally on fire. I could barely breathe. The evidence was clearly rising in my pants, pressing against his thigh. He had to have felt it. There was no way he couldn't, but I think he was so focused on calming down that he didn't even pick up on my hormone release.
His hand gripped my waist tighter.
A high pitched, breathy moan left my lips. It was the most embarrassing noise I've made yet.
"Goddess, I smell it," he growled.
No.
If he releases his hormones I'm done for. He'll knot me and I won't stop him. I had to get away. I needed to get away. If I didn't, my life would be ruined.
"Kai, please! I can't do this!" I begged him to release me but by the way his grip tightened I knew this was going to be much harder for me to get out of.
"If you go, I will hunt you down," he growled. It wasn't exactly a threat but a warning of the inevitability. There was no way that he'd be able to stop if I ran away now and there was no one around.
"If I stay, you'll knot me."
His hand slipped out of my hair and down my side. He held my hips with both of his hands in a way that told me that he was admiring the way they protruded outwards, imagining how they would push out his litter of pups.
"Yes, I will."
Oh my freaking Goddess!
What am I going to do?
"Kai," I moaned sweetly, "Let me go."
"You know I can't do that."
"Walk with me then."
He didn't budge. There was two ways I could get out of this situation. One would be to let him knot me, the second would be...
"Bite me then," I whispered.
Usually a bite from an Alpha means the Omega is betrothed to the Alpha who bit them. It was a way of Scent-Rolling or marking their territory. But the bite's affects wear off in about a week. Usually betrothed couples renew the bite weekly until they were officially bonded. And while the bite was ceremonial, it also worked as way to settle an Alpha's urges. I would let him bite me to get out of this situation but I will not let him renew the bite. Once it fades, we'll go back to normal.
"Bite you?"
I nodded my head beneath his chin. He was hugging me to him now.
"It'll sate you."
"This is just to sate me?"
"Kai, I can't let you knot me. I refuse to be an Inproba."
Inproba were what we called Omegas who were pregnant but not officially bonded. They were looked down upon by everyone.
Kai was quiet for a while before he finally agreed, "Okay."
I sighed in relief before offering him my neck.
He didn't hesitate as he sank his teeth into my flesh. I cried out in pain, collapsing into his hold. It only lasted for a second but the pain was close to unbearable. When it finally subsided, he licked the blood away and dropped his arms from around me.
I looked up into his eyes and they were boring down at me, sparkling with a green fire that was undefinable to me.
"Are you okay now?" I asked softly.
He gave a curt nod.
He offered his hand, which I took warily, and we began the long walk back to the restaurant.
As soon as we get back, I'm avoiding him like the plague...
