My breath hitched at the sight of a man staring up at my window, his red eyes glaring up at me. Tilting his top hat, the wind shifted in my backyard, his torn dust coat floated in the wind. A black gloved hand reached out to me, his face seconds from being exposed. The shrill scream of my alarm shook my dream, the ground shaking below me. Cold sweat dripped off of my brow, my fingers trembling.
“Wake up!” My mother’s voice rang out in my dreamscape bedroom.
Jerking awake, my head smashed into my mother’s. A crooked grin danced across her face, our eyes falling on the pair of black gloves on my lap. A lump formed in my throat, her dainty fingers picking up the leather pair of gloves. Tucking a piece of her long dark brown hair behind her ears, tears welled up in her green eyes. Cold sweat drenched my skin, a feverish blush rising to my cheeks.
“Can I stay home today?” I pleaded desperately, playing with my dark purple dyed hair. “I feel horrible.” Shaking her head, she dragged me out of bed, shifting through my closet of black. Sighing deeply, she turned back to me.
“I am afraid not, Ary.” She grumbled, pulling out the only yellow dress I owned. “Put this on, yellow will cheer you up. Also no Gothic makeup today.” My lips parted in protest, her death glare silencing me. Slamming the door behind her, dread built in me as I pulled over the yellow plaid sweater dress over my head. The soft wool felt nice against my skin, the mustard yellow making me look sickly. A horn honked outside of my house, my friends waiting for me. Pulling my hair out of my bun, perfect waves cascaded down my back. Disgust twisted their faces, frowns darkening their black lips. Lily and Dan, the local twins, pouted in my direction.
“Girl, you look like a popular girl spit up on you.” She teased cruelly, her short black bob cutting severely at her cheeks. “I heard there was a new student in town.” Her gray eyes sparkled excitedly, Dan glaring in her direction. Shaggy black hair hung around his shoulders, his slender frame looking smaller in his giant band t-shirt and chain ridden pants. A silver cross dangled from his left ear, his black fingernails drumming on the car.
“Who cares.” He snapped icily, the corner of my lip twitching. “He will probably just be sucked into the popular kids.” Rolling my eyes, I clutched my black coffin bag to my ample chest. Rocks crunched underneath the tires, the black hearse squealing to a stop. The bell rang, faceless students rushing in. Holding my first three periods in my arms, a tall boy my age crashed into me. Gazing up at him, his copper eyes flashed red. Stumbling back, he bent down to help me out. A black suit hugged his slender muscular body, long red hair hung around his eyes. My breath hitched at the sight of him, a devilish grin dancing across his face.
“Are you always this clumsy, Ary?” His deep gruff voice saying my name caused a blush to rise to my cheeks. “Do you speak?” Offering me his hand, my trembling fingers took it. Something about him was familiar, black leather gloves covering his hands.
“Thank you.” I stammered rushing into my first period English class, my eyes watching the boy saunter into the front of the classroom. Harsh whispers passed along the students, his eyes fixing on me. Everyone turned to me, daggers shooting from every other girls’ eyes.
“Hi, I am Dean Morningstar, and Ary is my girlfriend.” He announced slyly, resting his hands on his cheeks. “Color me impressed by all of your animosity towards her.” Plopping in the seat next to me, more whispers echoed in my ears. My ears were bright red, the embarrassment real. Ignoring him all of class, my gray haired middle aged teachers droned on about Romeo and Juilet. Dean Morningstar stared at me intensely, his footfalls following me all day long. The final bell rang, my friends rushing up to me.
“Do you need a ride home?” Lily began to ask, Dean wrapping his arms around my waist. “Who is he?” Pointing to him, she hissed aggressively. Dan stepped up behind her, a scowl curling on his lips. His arms crossed his chest, his attitude darkening the atmosphere.
“I was thinking of taking her home with me.” He growled hungrily, horror widening my eyes. “I need help catching up to everyone in my class.” My lips parted in protest, his hand pulling me to a black town car. The moment the door closed, words exploded from the tip of my tongue.
“Who the fuck do you think you are?” I snapped icily, glowering in his direction. “I am not your girlfriend, and will nev-” His lips pressed against mine lustfully, my arms falling to my side. My heart fluttered, time slowing down. Shaking my head, I pushed him off of me, red eyes watched me intensely. Reaching for the door handle, he caught me mid leap.
“I am the son of Lucifer, and you were picked to be my bride.” He growled hungrily in my ear, his fingers tucking a piece of my hair behind my ear. “Tell me how your hair is naturally purple?” Chuckling to myself, his head cocked in confusion.
“I dyed it purple.” I laughed, his face falling. “I chose this color, although I apologize if you thought I was someone else.” Without warning his teeth sank into my neck, the sickening noise of blood guzzling down his throat nauseating me. Releasing me from his grasp, horror widened my eyes. Smacking his chest repeatedly, the world spun around me. Sweet slumber took me off to dreamland, his scent of the woods driving me nuts.
The bright morning sun blinded me the next day, my reflection causing me to scream. My hair was no longer purple, but pure white. Dried blood dripped down my neck, a bite mark staring back at me. Pulling on my black sweatshirt dress with gray wolf ears and a tail. My mother burst into the room, my trembling hands pulling the hood over my head. Not falling for her tricks, her hand played with my white hair.
“Did you dye your hair again?” She questioned irritably, glancing at me up and down. “How many times have I told you to not play around with your hair too much!” Slapping her hand away, she scoffed as I slipped on my combat boots. Brushing past her, the hunger I normally felt wasn’t there. Walking out the door, dirt crunched underneath my boots as I stomped down the street. The black leather of my backpack creaked, a familiar town car creeping behind me. Putting my nose up in the air, I continued walking. The back window rolled down, Dean trying to get my attention.
“Go away.” I yelled, hurt flashing in his copper eyes. “You ruined me.” His strong arm dragged me into the car, my face landing in his groin. Groaning, I flipped onto the red carpet floor. His handsome face hovered over mine, the urge to mate with him irritating me. Images of him riding me flashed in my head, a soft blush rising to my cheeks.
“Can I explain what happened to you?” He begged pathetically, his confidence all gone. “I am so sorry.” Kicking him in the chest, he fell back onto the bench seat. Sitting up, I flipped him off. The black of his glove contrasted the white of my hair, his hand pulling the shoulder over to look at my bite.
“Don’t kill me, but I think I turned you into a demon.” He stammered in a horrified tone, his lips curling into a snarl. Launching myself at him, my fist was raised. I hadn’t felt this angry since my father died from cancer, genuine guilt flashing in his eyes.
“It’s okay.” I replied sheepishly, looking at the ground. “It’s not like my life could get any worse. I am pretty sure my mother hates me. I always knew that I would end up in Hell.” Bowing my head in shame, the car stopped in front of the school. Helping me up, he pulled me close to his chest. My friends ripped open the door, irritated looks on their faces.
