Eleven—
"So who exactly are these people I'm going to meet?" I asked, as we walked hand in hand to some secret hideaway that Kai spends a lot of his time. Just kidding, more like an underground conference room. I didn't know why we were meeting up with people in a place so shady but Kai was very adamant about keeping this on the down low.
"Just a few Alphas and their mates..." he answered, but from the look in his eye, something tells me it wasn't as simple as that. He was trying very hard to appear nonchalant but I could see his eyes darting around us, making sure no one was around or following us.
When we finally reached our destination, I was a little disappointed. It was just a rickety old shed in the middle of the forest.
"Kai?" I asked uneasily.
"It's okay," he reassured, pulling me inside the shed. The inside look just as bad as the outside. It smelled and there were old building tools rusting about. There was no light, so we had to make do with the sunlight that was able to peek through the cracked wood.
Kai brushed the back wall, searching for something with his hand. When he found it—whatever it was—he knocked twice. Suddenly the center of the floor collapsed into a staircase. I jumped away from the offending floors.
Kai took the first step downward and offered his hand to me. As soon as we reached the bottom, the steps disappeared and we were shrouded in darkness. I clutched on to his arm warily, looking around and trying to hear for any danger.
I held on to Kai tighter as he pushed open another door into a bright white room. The walls, the ceiling, the floors, everything was white. And fluorescent lights blared overhead. I was a little when I saw a few familiar faces.
I remember the Alpha from before...Nick. He was leaned against the wall with his short blonde hair spiked and hazel eyes menacing. He was pretty huge but leaner than Kai. In his arms was a much smaller man with soft brown eyes and long curly brown hair. His lips were full and his cheeks were rosy with innocence. I remember him from back in middle school. His name was Pyka Lee. He was always very skittish but was ranked one of the top Omegas for his bloodline and his obedience. I thought the name Pyka sounded familiar coming from Nick's mouth before, but my attention was focused elsewhere at the time so I didn't spend much thought on it.
I was very surprised and quite peeved to see Robin there, standing beside a tall and slender human man. Both were decked in black, but somewhat normal clothes. Her hair was tied in a tight ponytail while her friend's long dark dreads were wildly framing his face. Though he was thin, I could sense that he still has some muscle power that would surprise anyone.
In another corner were two more couples. One Alpha male had deep golden skin with very long and thick black hair. He had a braid with a few feathers tied to it. His eyes were solemn and his build was huge, much bigger than Kai's, matching that of my father and my father was a big man. He wore a tight black shirt and dark jeans to encase his super long legs. Peeking behind him, I could see another little man. An Omega who I also recognized. His name was Sherry and was known for his speed and healing capabilities. He excelled in medical training and often helped out at our medical facilities. He was what humans would call a miracle doctor. He was very short and thin with a mop of red curls that contrasted against his caramel skin and large light gray eyes. He was one of the most striking Omegas I have ever seen and he was also one of the top ranked Omegas.
The other couple consisted of an Alpha female with short black hair cupping her sharp angular face. It was strong, yet still held the beauty of a woman. She was tall and had quite a bit of muscle mass yet still maintained a curvy figure. Her skin was a creamy milk chocolate and her eyes a piercing blue. She was dressed similarly to the Alpha male beside her. Behind her was a tall and thin Omega man with snow white hair. His eyes were a muted green and nowhere near as brilliant as my Kai's. He was a very gentle looking creature and while I didn't know him that well, I did know that he had a voice like angels and a very powerful bloodline making him another top rank Omega.
It seemed like all of the Omegas here were of high rank...except me.
What were we doing here? Why was I here?
"Don't be afraid, Drew," Kai murmured lowly. I hadn't realized I was digging into his arm. I released my hold with trembling fingers. "I'll introduce you to everyone."
He started with Nick and Pyka. Whom I already knew, then he travelled over to Robin and the other human named Vince. The huge Alpha male was named Talon and his Omega mate whom I already knew; Sherry. The Alpha female was named Brynn and her mate was named Caleb; Cal for short.
"This is my mate, Drew," Kai introduced. I looked at them all levelly.
Brynn grinned at me as I watched them all, "So he's a feisty one? That's how I like my Cal. No fun when they just bend to your every will."
I raised a brow at her then looked at the gentle white haired man behind her only to see him smirk at me. It was clear then that looks can be deceiving.
"You say that now, wait until he throws tantrum," Nick sneered.
"I second that," Robin piped in. My head snapped over to her and I growled.
"Drew," Kai warned.
I quieted instantly but still glared at the offending human and the Alpha. I didn't like them, not one bit.
"Where is Jackson?" Talon asked, his voice was impossibly deep and masculine. He reminded me of a Native American Chief, but that could be because of his obvious decent.
"He's coming. There was a little trouble with his mate, she's in heat."
"He can't miss this meeting."
"He won't. They'll be here."
Right on cue, the door opened and Jackson shuffled inside carrying a semi-conscious Melrose. She was wearing his clothes and shivering uncontrollably. There was very little furniture in the room but there was a white couch beside Kai and I. Jackson sat down on the couch and Mel curled in his lap, scrunching her body up as if she couldn't get close enough.
I knew the feeling.
"Should she really be out?" I asked Jackson. His eyes flashed at me threateningly and I stepped back in surprise.
"Don't question an Alpha's judgement, it's none of your business," Kai warned.
"But she's my friend!"
"And he's her mate. He knows what's best for her, not you."
"But—"
"Drew!"
I whimpered, fighting the urge not to submit so openly in front of these people. I didn't want to embarrass Kai or myself.
Nick rolled his eyes, "I keep telling you, you're way too easy on him. He needs discipline or he's going to blatantly test your authority."
"Mind your business," Kai growled.
I stayed quiet, not wanting to screw up again. So much for becoming a better mate. First day and I already messed things up.
"Stonem should be here any moment now," Brynn said.
Stonem?
Why did that name sound so familiar?
I was trying to remember where I heard that name from but then the door opened again.
Stonem! That was the guy Kai was talking to on the phone!
A large man with pure silver hair walks in. When he lays his eyes on me, I recognized them. They were a steely gray that sent my instincts into high alert.
It was him!
He was with Robin when they injected me with that...oh my Goddess, he's going to hurt me. He came here to hurt me.
My fear was illogical but overpowering. I scrambled away from him to the farthest side of the room. Kai hurried to my side as I crouched on the floor covering my head.
"Get him away from me!" I cried.
He was going to hurt me.
I knew he was.
He's going to take me away from Kai.
"What did you do to him?" Kai growled at the offending man.
I still didn't know what he was. He wasn't a Wolf but he wasn't human either.
My panicking didn't faze the man, his expression remained cold as he took a spot next to Robin. Robin was looking slightly worried.
"What did you do?" Kai demanded, his eyes flashing red. His body was shielding me from the man.
"He was the one who did it," I whispered.
Kai was still growling and barely heard me but Brynn did. She leaned down to my side and approached me cautiously.
"What did he do?" she asked softly.
"They came to our house and stabbed me with something. I couldn't move, I couldn't think," I replied terrified, going back to that moment when they injected me with the syringe. "Kai wouldn't believe me. No one would believe me."
I thought Kai wasn't listening but he stood suddenly, grabbing Stonem's shirt and throwing him across the room into the wall. Stonem grunted at the impact but otherwise didn't notice any damage. Just what the hell was he?
"You injected him with something?" Kai questioned, taking another threatening step toward the man. "What did you do?"
"Kai, we were only trying to help," Robin said. Kai whipped around to face her. Vince, took an uneasy step away from the furious Alpha.
"You were there? How could you have been there when you were with me?"
"We came before I saw you," she admitted.
I knew it! I knew what I saw!
Kai's arm thrusted out lightning fast. He wrapped his fingers around her neck and lifted her up in the air. She clawed at his arm as her feet dangled.
"What did you inject him with?"
Robin didn't answer, she was still gasping for air.
"Answer me!" Kai jerked her and she choked.
"We can't tell you!" she finally wheezed.
Kai dropped her to the floor but didn't let her escape, instead, he twisted her arm, threatening to break it. "Tell me what you did to my mate and I won't kill you."
Stonem growled at Kai, finally showing an emotion, though it was anger.
Kai's eyes slid over to the man and they were terrifying. "Don't test me hybrid, you don't stand a chance."
Hybrid?
"We can't tell you. It's already done, let her go," Stonem demanded.
Kai threw Robin against the wall, causing her head to bash into it.
"If I find out you harmed my mate in anyway...I will slaughter you. All of you. Don't come near him again."
This side of Kai...it was the Alpha that everyone knew of. The Omegas looked slightly frightened but the Alphas...they didn't look surprised in the least. Was this how Kai normally was?
Where was that sweet guy I always knew him to be?
