“Morning Lianna.”
“Morning Niomi, how has the summer been treating you?” She drags one of the chairs from the front row and puts it in front of the older’s desk, sitting at it and putting her bag on the ground, opening it, and grabbing her laptop to put on the desk.
“It actually treated me well, Markus and Louis got married as you know and I’m happy for them, seeing as Louis is now my… male cousin in-law? He truly was well accepted into the family.”
“Did you and Dia pull that prank on them you told me about?”
“Yeah, you should’ve seen the looks on their faces,” Niomi sits down, leaning back in her chair and puts her flats up on the desk. “Pure mayhem, you would’ve loved it.”
“I bet, as I pitched in on some of the plans. But that’s nice to hear.”
“How is your summer so far Lia? I heard that you got some new roommates.”
“Yeah, one of them was my ex from freshman year of high school.” The woman scrunches her eyebrows together, a bit of a worried expression stained on her face. “And the other is his childhood best friend that I’m friends with.”
“Oo, Ouch.”
“Well here’s the thing, they’re both going to be attending this college and I may have gotten back with my ex.”
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Lianna for real?!” She pinches the bridge of her nose, sighing from how idiotic the girl can be.
“I’m not joking Nia, literally he’s in the music hallway as we speak. And don’t you dare play the clown music.” Lianna watches as the professor presses play on her phone. The sounds of the circus play all throughout the room, making the redness on the girl’s face go even darker. “I hate you so much.”
“Do you want an F for the semester, if not then you have to listen to the clown music.” She rolls her eyes but sits back, crossing her arms that were shielded by her laptop.
“But he’s a lot better now as has matured a lot.”
“Mm, sure, let’s just see how long this lasts.”
“If our previous relationship lasted four months last time then it’ll last longer this time.”
“Sure, let’s go with that.”
“Anyways, what is the lesson plan for this year?”
“Mostly just stuff you already know, a lot of it is going to the children’s hospital and talking to kiddos and such.”
“So we’re actually going into the field a lot this year?”
“Yep, it’s going to be a fun time this year.” She moves some papers from her current position, pushing them towards the other. “I want you to look over what we’re doing in terms of “field trips”.”
“We’re not in grade school, that’s for sure.”
“Whatever, just look them over.” Lianna grabs the first packet off the top of the stack, skimming over all of the places they’ll be visiting for classes before getting to the end of the packet a few minutes later.
“This looks good, I mean, I’m just the assistant this semester, I don’t understand why you’re asking me to look over them.”
“You’re my friend Lia, so I need you to help me with these sorts of things when it comes to it. Do you think you can go to the hospital to get some of the last paperwork later today?”
“I have to go to the mental hospital for work around two so I might be able to run such errands.” The woman smiles, taking her feet off the desk and moving around the stack of papers again.
“Alright, also you brought June right?”
“Man, everyone has a unique nickname for him.”
“So I take that as a yes?”
“Yeah but he’s sleeping next to my feet, I think he’s just tuckered out from the car ride, I swear that boy is just like my dad.”
“So you love your daddy?”
“Niomi Beacon, I swear to god, never say that ever again or I will get you fired.” Niomi crosses her arms, a smug look smacked on her face.
“How so?”
“Don’t underestimate my power around here.”
“I will underestimate it, because you are a student and I am a professor.”
“At least you aren’t like Professor Daniels, he creeps me out.”
“I’m pretty sure he has a thing for younger girls.”
“Isn’t he married?”
“To Sasha, yeah.”
“What is wrong with him?” She shrugs, squatting down next to the girl to pet Juneau.
“No clue. But I will agree he is quite creepy.”
“Yeah, anyways, is there anything else you need?”
“Nope, but I’m probably gonna head out for lunch in a bit, maybe we can catch up a little bit more?” The professor starts to round up her things, putting them into her tote bag.
“I don’t know, since Tobias is with me, I don’t think we can, and it’s only eleven so…” Lianna herself closes her laptop after hours of work and puts it back into her bag, closing it and locking it back up by the latches.
“No, it’s fine, I’m pretty sure you want to go run the errands I gave you since the hospital is thirty minutes north of here.”
“And ten minutes from the mental hospital, alright. Well I’m gonna get going so I’ll see you on the fourteenth.”
“Okay, bye Lia, bye June.” Niomi waves as the two leave, the student puts his leash back on her belt loop before pulling out her phone to call Tobias.
-
Tobias stood outside in the courtyard, his giant tuba case right next to him as he sat on one of the benches, enjoying the nice end to summer and start to fall.
He previously was on the phone with his beloved, her telling him that she was done and that they had to go run errands. Then she asked where he was and he promptly answered the courtyard.
His eyes glance towards a small figure that had opened the door to the outside, propping it open with something before bringing the animal in tow.
“Nice to see you out here.”
“Shush.” She comes near him, bending down a bit to kiss the boy’s cheek. Juneau jumps up on him, his paws on his knees to nudge him in the stomach.
“I see you two are very affectionate today.”
“Don’t care, now come on, we have three hours before I have to go to work, and I have to do some last minute paperwork for Niomi.”
“Your professor’s name is Niomi?”
“Yes, why are you asking?”
“Well I think I met her earlier when coming out here, I guess she stepped out of the room when you were working.”
“Oh, I think you met Professor Stahper, her name is also Naomi.” The boy hums, grabbing his tuba and standing up, forcing Lianna to step back from him.
“What time is it currently?”
“Time for you to get a watch.” She mumbles before looking at her watch, “11:16"
“Then we have time for a little…”
“No, I told you I’m not ready yet, it’s only been two weeks, Tobias.”
“Alright, Alright, but can you tell me when you are ready?”
“Yeah, just, not right now.” The two lovebirds wander back inside the building, navigating their way to the girl’s car before finding it in the deserted parking lot.
“Do you want to drive us there?”
“Sure.” She unhooks the leash from her belt loop and opens the back door, motioning for the dog to jump into the back. She also puts her bag in the back, closing the door and opens the driver door, getting inside. “Man it feels weird being back in front of the wheel.”
“Yeah, even after a week since what happened last time.”
“Hopefully I didn’t forget how to drive.” The boy chuckles for a moment, seeing as the girl presses the button to turn on the engine, pulling out of the spot and towards the hospital.
