Ira, smiling innocently, made sure to lock the door behind her before she left. She even went as far as to flip the bird as a final goodbye. She returned to her desk triumphantly, before doing a little dance to celebrate. Cheerfully, she rushed to find her friend. After bursting into Jordan’s office, Ira straightened her posture before jumping up and down in excitement.
“I did it!” Ira cried out as she twirled around in a circle.
But when Jordan’s voice filled Ira’s ears it did not sound happy.
“Sorry to cut your celebration short but, we’re needed out in the field, like right now. The victim is a thirty-seven year old man.” Jordan announced.
The medical examiner rummaged through her coat pocket for her mirror. Jordan paused, looking at it with a hint of urgency. Ira noticed the atmosphere thicken when Jordan answered the call. Jordan’s expression became one of genuine concern, as if something dire had just occurred. Ira revelled at the sight of her stress and could only imagine what terrible things took place in order to cause such an expression.
“Wait.” Jordan paused. “You’re bleeding?!”
“I know.”
“What happened- you said you were going to just talk!”
“I was! He started it!”
“Is he bleeding too?”
“He was.”
“Oh my-“
“It’s not that bad, let’s just go! Or, Brian is going to be really angry.” Ira insisted.
“So does Elijah still care? Gosh, I really want to know all the details! I wish we could have our break right now.”
Ira could practically see Jordan bouncing off the walls with how much she was fidgeting in excitement.
“I don’t know but… I definitely realized that you don't get that pissed off at someone standing that close to you, you could kiss them, if you don’t care about them anymore.” Ira admitted as the heat rushed to her face.
“Ira Ann Lagear, I don’t know what I’m going to do with you.”
“You’re going to take me with you in your vehicle because I don’t think I want to face anyone else right now, I am emotionally and physically drained. And also, very frustrated.”
“On it.”
