It was insanely hot today. It’s only 9 in the morning but my skin feels like it's gonna be toasted from the heat. I am trying my best to walk as fast as I can because I'm already late for my Advanced Math class.
The reason?
I overslept.
When I got home last night, my father was already asleep on our couch. To my surprise, he's not holding any kind of liquor. What might have happened to him? That scene was like a miracle, but I shrugged off the thoughts floating in my mind and went straight to my room.
But that is not the reason why I overslept.
I was about to sleep last night when the man who went to interrupt me on the bridge crossed my mind once again, and I realized he was kind of familiar. I just don't know where I saw him, but seeing a glimpse of his face thanks to the moon, I'm pretty sure I already saw him somewhere. Or maybe I'm just trippin'.
That thought got me overthinking the whole night until I fall asleep at dawn.
The result?
Me walking fast right now and literally looking hella haggard early in the morning.
My tan skin was exposed to the sun making it red like a tomato. I touched my arms and it's much hotter than my usual temperature. Having umbrella is useless in this situation.
I was walking in the hallway when I saw my professor heading to our room. That's why I ran as fast as I could to reach the classroom first.
When I opened the door my block mates looked at me, but I just shrugged and fixed my slightly creased uniform before searching for a vacant seat.
My eyes were roaming around inside the room when someone caught my attention.
A man looking out the window looking fondly at the leaves of the trees, slightly swaying because of the little wind, is sitting on the last row beside the window.
This man!!
What is he doing here?
No, I mean, we are classmates? Why hadn’t I noticed him before?
Or perhaps I’m wrong?
Is he also a 2nd yr. student?
Maybe I was staring at him for too long that is why he noticed someone’s looking at him.
When his dark eyes met mine, he didn't appear in any way surprised to know that I was in the same class as him.
I shifted my gaze to the other side and hurriedly sat down on the vacant seat on the second row near him.
“Miss Alicante.”
“Miss Kaia Alicante.”
I was scribbling on my notebook when someone tapped my shoulder, causing me to look at my classmate who used her eyes to point out that our professor was calling me.
“Kindly answer the problem on the board.” My professor said and handed me the whiteboard marker.
I looked at the board in front and saw a rather unfamiliar problem there.
What was our topic again?
Newton Ra- what?
Am I really not paying attention?
Hesitating, I stand up and get the marker from the professor.
When I’m in front of the board, I closed my eyes because of frustration and regret.
Why hadn’t I listened to him earlier?
Several minutes passed but I still have no idea on how to answer the problem.
“Miss Alicante, don’t you know the answer?”
I looked at my professor and around the room where my classmates are all looking at me. This is so embarrassing.
“Sir.”
From the back, the man who saved me spoke and raised his hand.
What is he gonna do this time?
“I’ll help Ms. Alicante, Sir.”
I heard my professor sighed before nodding slightly.
“Well then Yuki. Come in front and answer the problem.”
So… Yuki is his name.
How come I don’t know him?
Kaia, are you seriously asking yourself that?
You don’t even know ¾ of the names of your classmates. And most importantly, you’re in a bind right now. Stop arguing with your subconscious.
I just watched him walk effortlessly confidently towards me.
“The marker.” He uttered and opened his hand waiting for me to pass the marker to him.
He’s much taller than me. I didn’t notice it last night because we only fell on the ground when he helped me and I left him there. So he didn’t jumped on the bridge in the end too.
“What are you thinking? You were spacing out the whole time Sir Lucas is discussing the new topic.” Yuki said in a low voice pretending he’s not talking to me so our teacher won’t notice.
He seems like really loves talking to someone he’s not close with huh. As far as I know, yesterday was the very first time I talked to him.
“Stop being nosy and just answer the fucking problem.” I said under my breath and glared at him.
Yuki slightly chuckled and shook his head before continuing to solve the problem.
Minutes passed and I only watched him solve and fill the spaces on the board. I didn’t know the solution would be that long! But well…. It’s kinda easy though. It’s just that I didn’t listen to my professor when he discussed it earlier.
I saw him put back the lid of the marker, meaning he’s now done answering.
"Ok, good job, Mr. Yuki." Mr. Santos said before
collecting his things on the table.
"That’s it for today. I’ll just post your assignment in our group later. Be sure to submit it before our next meeting." He added before heading outside the classroom.
I heaved a deep sigh before going back to my seat to collect my bag and go get some lunch.
I’m famished. I don’t know but it’s just the first subject but I feel drained already. I hate life.
If only I could live in peace without worrying about things.
I was walking down the hallway to go to the cafeteria when I heard Yuki utter words behind me that made me stop.
"You wanna go grab some lunch?"
