- Eros -
The scent of sweet and bitter alcohol wafted through the air, mixed with sweat and cologne as bodies moulded against each other on the dance floor.
The music pumping and flowing through the space, lights flashing on the wall, the floor, on couples making out.
I stood on the second level, overlooking the dance floor, my eyes scanning my target couple. I've been looking all week for them to arrive. Hopefully I will spot them tonight.
I grabbed a shot from my tray and gulped it down, feeling the alcohol burn my throat before residing in my stomach. It's hard to focus on the job at hand unless there's some vodka involved.
I smiled and rested my hands on the railings in front of me, there they are.
My machine a few days ago listed all their information and they were optimal partners for one another.
My matchmaking machine collects everything from both parties. From their stars, to their personalities, to their past, present and future before making the connection.
I winced inwardly, their relationship will be a rough one, but they'll make it. Somehow.
The woman, Ashley Hamilton, used to be married to a rich architect. Obviously, her marriage wouldn't last, she's not meant to be with him.
A couple is only made when I've shot the arrows.
She also used to be a rich woman from a rich family. Got divorced, company went bust and is now living on her own. I wonder if she found a job yet.
None of my business.
I looked over to the guy, Charles Anderson. Soon to inherit his father's interior design company and is now in charge of his own property firm.
I straightened my posture and stretched my arms, time to get down to business.
"Payne, get my arrows for me please," I called out behind me and my assistant handed my set of bow and arrows to me.
Two arrows to be exact.
Once the connection is confirmed, the arrows will be made by my matchmaking machine.
I held the thin, dark red arrows in my hand, the scent of cherries and alcohol coming off them. The smell of lust and love.
I strung the arrow onto my golden bow, the intricate Greek designs carved beautifully and delicately.
I pulled the string back and aimed it at Charles, he had an annoying face, must be a player. He thinks he can get all the ladies, we'll see about that.
I let the arrow go, and it struck him right at his heart.
He seemed taken aback at first as hurt flashed across his face. Humans can feel the impact of the arrow the moment it hits. It takes a second or two for the arrow to disappear. But the moment it does, the victim will immediately forget the pain and the arrow.
I grinned, perfect shot.
I strung the second arrow and aimed it at Ashley, her face and dress were the same shades of bright red. Ugh, I wonder how she even managed to get married in the first place.
I pulled the string, strong and confident, then I saw a figure stride past Ashley.
I raised an eyebrow, what's she doing here?
Destiny Paige, rising star and beautiful actress. She could sing, dance, act, everything a celebrity had to encompass she could do.
The thing is, I paired her a month ago. But yet her aura was missing. When a person has been shot with my arrow they will carry the scent of the arrow as well as the wonderful love-struck glow.
However, she didn't carry the familiar scent of cherries and the glow in her eyes and on her face were gone.
In fact, she looked tired and distraught. Though still beautiful.
Her loosely curled dark red hair shimmered as the lights cast a wonderful glow on her. Her brown eyes sparkled with mischief as she walked down the dance floor majestically.
She knew she was beautiful, in her tight body-hugging red dress, her diamond-studded necklace shining at every angle, her gold heels making her look so tall and slender.
Almost every guy was gazing at her, hungrily feasting their eyes on her curvy yet slim body.
I scoffed, typical men.
I am Eros, I don't have any sense of attraction to anyone.
Even if I did, it was plainly for carnal needs.
I diverted my attention back to Ashley and pulled the string back, aimed and let the arrow go.
It pierced Ashley's heart and she gasped loudly. I rolled my eyes, she was such a drama queen.
The arrow evaporated and I watched as both Ashley and Charles walked towards the bar, call out for drinks and catch one another's gaze.
I smirked, "Ah humans."
"Well someone's getting laid tonight, and it's not you!" Payne laughed behind me and I rolled my eyes.
Who needs to get laid when you are the God of lust and love itself?
I still do though, occasionally.
"Very funny Payne, let's go."
I handed my bow to him and smoothed my burgundy suit down.
The club was extremely packed tonight and I didn't want to stay any longer than I already have. I walked down the staircase to the dance floor and some ladies were starting to drool at the sight of me.
As Eros, I have to look my very best. The most handsome in the whole universe in fact. Dirty blonde combed back hair, bluish grey eyes with gold irises, toned and muscular body, everything about me was to attract humans.
The lights focused on the dance stage and the attention was diverted away from me onto the dancers.
"No maiden good enough for you tonight?" Payne remarked and I scoffed.
"Since when was anyone good enough for me?"
Sure, I slept with a few women before, they may be considered gorgeous and sexy for most men, but really, they were average.
Men started wolf whistling and howling and whatever other kind of sound an animal could make at the girls pole dancing on the stage.
I grunted and started to move towards the exit quickly. It's so bloody crowded.
"Eros! Wait up!" My assistant called out for me but I went straight for the doors.
Then the lights went out, it was pitch black.
Everyone was whispering around me.
What the hell?
I don't remember having any special events tonight.
The spotlight came on and shone directly on the stage, illuminating the sexy actress who was swaying slightly, eyes glassy as she tried to focus.
Was she drunk?
She raised a glass and her smile bedazzled everyone.
Excluding me.
"Hello everyone! I would like to raise a toast!" She yelled and giggled right after, happy with the amount of attention she amassed.
Her audience whistled, some cheered, mostly were as dumbfounded as I was. What was she doing?
"I am Destiny Paige and I want to toast to my recent break up with Dylan Rogue!"
A short gasp could be heard from the audience before a massive applause erupted through the whole club. Camera flashes were everywhere as everyone captured photos of the now single actress.
It was going to be a big scoop in the morning, nothing that I should be worried about.
What I do worry about is the fact that Dylan Rogue was the man that was paired with her. I shot arrows at both of them.
Something was off.
You see, a couple may break up during the course of their lives but the moment I've shot the arrow, there should be no such thing. They should be together no matter what the situation.
That's how it's worked for centuries.
Most importantly, at no point in time should they lose the aura that has been shot into them by the arrow.
Yet here I have a crazy woman, who I've clearly shot an arrow at last month, standing on the stage with no aura and yelling that she is back on the singles market.
I felt an uncomfortable stirring within me and I stared at the red head on stage. The flashing lights came back on and the music took off where it stopped.
Destiny was smiling widely, her posture was utterly relaxed and she looked like she didn't have a care in the world. For someone who just broke up, she looked a little too happy.
She downed the last of her drink and she laughed happily before her sultry gaze settled on me.
