Shadow
I inhaled the cool winter air as I walked home from school. All of my sisters were back home already but I stayed later to tutor. The sky was showing the last bit of sunlight, as the days in winter are considerably shorter. My family was posing as humans and living in a richity rich community. Fake ID’s and all, we have people for that, as my parents both over 200 years old, could almost look as old as Pandora, Annabelle and I. We all posed for the act though, Pandora my 20 year old sister and myself an 18 year old pretended to be twins and both seniors in high school, Annabelle, well honestly she wasn’t really any help, if anything she tarnished our name. Always sleeping in school, being tardy and getting sub par grades, an embarrassment honestly. She didn’t have to change anything as she is actually supposed to be a junior in high school but young for her class, still 17 in real life. But she could change her attitude, or appearance at least.
I sighed as I walked closer to my house, I could hear an argument between my parents and Annabelle. At least the evening was going predictably. Annabelle would always start things with me, and with my parents. Not that I cared, there was no real surprise why she was sheltered. She was unsightly with her haircut, small and scrawny, and with no filter. She could never attend a chosen one gathering without embarrassing our entire family and making us all look bad in the process.
I opened the door and was greeted by my mother. She used to have long hair like myself, but to appear older got a short haircut ever since we moved in with the humans here. I knew she missed having her dark brown hair long.
“Shadow right on time!” My mom smiled at me. I gave her a hug and proceeded to take off my winter clothes. I sighed in relief as I was able to take my long hair out of the tight bun I was wearing it in. My mom brushed my bangs out of my eyes
“We are going to have to cut your bangs soon. They are starting to look a little sloppy.” I nodded
“Of course mom.”
I turned in direction of Annabelles voice escalating to a yell
“How come Shadow can?! Why Can't I?!
I rolled my eyes. A very predictable evening.
“You can leave! Honestly! You need to get some air, and figure out that attitude!”
My eyes widened. normally My mom is the one who yells at Annabelle. My dad just takes it as a grain of salt, she must have really been pushing him before I got home.
Annabelle stormed past me slamming into my shoulder with hers and slammed the door behind her.
It was really no surprise why my parents hid her from the rest of the chosen ones.
