They arrived at a secluded road where barely any cars passed by. There's an abandoned parking lot connected to the road, a bunch of cars were parked there with people wandering around. Bunch of stands by the road consist of selling alcohol or food, and few bookmakers. Instead of placing bets on the horse, they bet on the racer. People found it more satisfying to gamble at this place, thus it became a hot spot for gambling. Drunkards, gamblers, bored people and gigolos alike enjoyed the hyped atmosphere at that heaty place.
Two cars having an intense race. As both neared the finishing line, the black car suddenly got cornered by the yellow car. The yellow car was closing in and pushed them to the border, the black car panicked and pressed the break. At last, the bright, eye-killing yellow car wins. The owner of the car got out and fixed his hair. A bunch of girls wearing tight, revealing clothes approached him and cheered as they fought to wipe his sweat. One could be seen rubbing her non-existent chest on his arm. They flirt with him every chance they get. The owner of the yellow car wore classic blue denim jeans and a white shirt that is now drenched in sweats. His rusty douche face beamed with pride and his hair gelled up like a shark. A woman runs toward him, and excitedly shouts;
“Chris!!”
Mark and Louise got out of the car and walked over to the hoard of people to meet the douche guy. A girl accidentally bumps into Louise, she hurriedly apologises and runs away. Louise blankly stared at her walking away and traced the path. She came from the bleachers, a place where usually the wagers sit to get a good view of the racer and their cars. He sees a girl staring at him, her face looking sour. Louise changed his attention to Mark and sees him checking out the girls on his radar, “What a crowd, you know Louise, this is a perfect time for you to tackle some woman”, Mark elbowed Louise's arm.
Louise scoffs “I'd like to see you try Mark”
“Oh don’t worry, it will be easy for me."
When they get to Chris and see him surrounded by women. As if it ain't obvious enough, they are leaching for his money. Some of them see Louise approaching them and look worried, they even made the other girls look at him. Chris sees the virgins and mumbles under his breath, “Seems like there are rats infested here tonight”, Chris said, looking salty and pleased at the same time.
“Chris”, Louise said with a nonchalant tone. He approaches him, while Mark flirts with the woman near him. Louise looks at Chris's car, which is sparkly and shiny “New, isn't it?”
Chris leaned on his car with his arm “pretty isn't she? This girl is fresh from the shop, gotta spend money or else it's gonna get dusty right?” Chris observe Louise’s tad-worned clothes and smirked, ‘look how shit this fucker looks, I thought he quit because he gotten so rich’, he thought to himself. Louise stared at him, “You've been doing well, what's the show tonight?”
“Ohh?”, Chris gets close to Louise's face “you're here to race isn't it?" He got close to Louise’s face but Louise didn't flinch nor move, “So what?” Louise looked undisturbed but Mark had something on his mind, 'oh shit that's gay'.
Chris mocks him, “Oh there's nothing wrong, we all have to earn some money right? But are you gonna win bro?”. He laughs proudly while two girls lock their arms around him, "look at that junk—" Chris pointed at Louise's car "no way that car gonna win, that shit looks like it should be in a museum." The people around him laugh at Louise, mocking his old fashion car. Mark’s puppy face turns still and just Louise shrugged, “who knows..." His calm attitude makes Chris snicker before taking a lollipop from the girls beside him, unwraps it, and put it in his mouth "Why don't we place a bet?"
"A bet?" Louise tilted his head, and that word sparked his interest. "Yeah, you can bet anything you want", a broad grin carved on Chris's face. Louise was on board with his idea, "now that’s fun, I want all your winning money including this race's money and, also—", Louise circled Chris's brand new car with his hand "That girl is coming home with me"
Chris sneered, "I was gonna say your money but I don't think you don't have any— so how about your life? That means, I could do anything... you don't mind if I kill you?", he grinned. By Chris's words, Louise thought of the bigger possibility of him giving a hand rather than being a dead man. Knowing how Chris has a history with men, it made him shiver to the bone ‘Nah he won’t… I hope’, Louise stared at Chris for a while before accepting.
Chris claps his hands and rubs it, he yells at a guy near him to call for the bookmaker, "CALL FIN, WE HAVE A NEW BET TO MAKE!" Chris offers a handshake to Louise. When handing his hand, Louise suddenly felt an intense gaze on his back but later he dismissed it. He responds;
"It's a deal"
"a deal"
Louise goes to fetch his car for the race and as his hand reaches the handle Mark grips his hand, looking bewildered and confused "Are you fucking insane, why did you agree with him?"
"Easy money Mark" Louise shakes himself from Mark's grip then massage his wrist. His easygoing attitude made Mark even more alarmed as if he weren't taking the whole thing seriously, "Yeah and what if he turn you into his little precious toys?!"
When he said that, Louise stared into Mark's light honey eyes as he thought, 'his eyes look like gold, and my virginity is gold'. Louise shakes his thoughts off holds both of Mark's shoulders, "Mark... if I ever became his pony, do me a favour and snipe me in the head".
Mark tears up while covering his mouth, "my friend..." They stayed in that position for a good minute before Louise pulled apart. Mark immediately grab Louise's arm but Louise jerked his hand away while refusing to look at Mark's sobbing face. He got into his car and drove, leaving the somber Mark alone "I WILL SAVE YOU MY FRIEND!"
Louise brought his car to the starter line, he pulled the handbrake and rolled the window down. Chris was ramming his car so he had to talk loudly;
“How much money did you get tonight?"
“4,000... maybe 5,000?" Chris reply while acting dumb. “Don't lie, I know you have more”. Louise thought to himself ‘he's the type of guy who's only good at maths when it comes to money’. Chris gave a sign of defeat, "Fine fine, still sharp as ever...10,000.” Louise widens his eyes while actively trying to hide his excitement as he grips the wheel tightly. Chris repeats, “10,000 fucking dollars—“. He chuckled “I got this much because people fight a fight they can't and never win!!” He laughed loudly, hitting the steering wheel.
Louise smirks as he diverts his attention to the road in front of him. He's licking his lip while pulling the handbrake and ramming his car, “How pitiful…” Chris' smile turns sour after seeing Louise's confident face. Mark comes to the front and cheers for Louise, “WOOO YOU CAN DO IT MY WALKING BANK!!!”.
Louise didn't bother to look at his roommate. Mark chuckles and talks to a woman beside him “That's my friend right there! He used to be the best but right now..." He sighs and rubs his chin, “Since he hasn't raced for a long time, I don't know if he is still good… Oh— but that doesn't mean I don't believe in him!” The girl he was talking to vanished in thin air, leaving Mark hanging and chuckling from embarrassment.
On the road, a showgirl with a tight red shirt and skirt gets in front of the car, she's holding a whistle in her hand and she waves the whistle in the air, hyping the spectators who are watching this fierce race;
"A RACE BETWEEN CHRIS IN THE YELLOW MAZDA AND LOUISE IN MAROON FORD FALCON, CROWDS ARE YOU READY?"
The crowds yelled back at her. Louise was itching to press the accelerator, he looked serious but initially he felt excited as adrenaline rushed into his blood. She counts:
"3... 2... 1!"
The whistle has blown, and cars have bolted in the distance until they disappeared from Mark's line of vision.
