Theory here: I believe Ghostblade is the man who was married to the angel, Ahna. His punishment after his wife's execution was to wield the cursed sword and become an immortal, living plague for the world to face. His whole journey in the story is to take revenge against the angels and find a way to die so he can reunite with Ahna
