Mitchell looked into the bag, dumbfounded by how much money was just hanging there in her hands. Her ticket out of the family business, finally. She would finally be able to live comfortably as she adjusted to a new job with her friend. "Thank you, Lunaire. Elysia, I hope you really enjoy the Bible, and I truly hope it was everything you were looking for."
A teller slowly opened the door, careful not to hit any of the people standing in the small room. He plugged in the machine and started a test run with a small stack of bills. "Looks good here, let's get this going!"
"We will be in the lobby, dear," Elysia said as he used his probing cane to find his way to the door. "Take all the time you need."
Mitchell nodded, as she began to pass the large stacks of bills to the teller. They put stack after stack, taking more time than she expected before they finally finished counting out one-hundred grand. Mitchell became confused as she piled twenty thousand dollars into a separate stack, asking the teller to retrieve the men. Elysia and Lunaire came into the room, smiling. "I believe you gave me more than the asking price. I have twenty thousand here that belongs to you," she said as she handed the stacks of bills to Lunaire.
"No, my dear, that is for your time," Elysia crossed his arms, smiling like a kid in a candy store. "You took time from your day to not only assist Lunaire at the store, but also made sure we were able to purchase today. I was informed no one even acknowledged him until you showed, and it is greatly appreciated. This will be our little secret." He took a small slip of paper from his suit pocket and held it out for Mitchell.
"A receipt?" she asked him. "Isn't that my job?" she chuckled as she looked it over.
Lunaire handed her a pen, and pointed the the bottom line. "Just sign here and the back copy is yours. I figured you should be able to enjoy your money without being forced to split it. If we had to follow you back to the store they would see your little bonus."
Mitchell smiled and signed the receipt, carefully pulling the copies apart, placing hers in the bag with the money and handing Elysia's back to Lunaire. "Thank you both very much, but I don't feel comfortable taking this. Are you completely sure?"
"Completely," Elysia said. "Just the Bible and we will be out of here. Don't forget, enjoy the money. Short lifeline, so act fast!" He laughed to himself as Mitchell handed over the Bible.
"Okay, Elysia. Thank you again," she said with a sweet tone, even though her face showed otherwise. She was thankful the man couldn't see her expression.
Lunaire led Elysia from the room, leaving Mitchell with the money. She waited a few minutes before following their lead. There was something odd about them, and she didn't feel comfortable being alone in her car if they were still parked next to her. She hurried her way to her car, locking the doors immediately behind her after they left. She took the extra twenty grand and put them in her workout bag she kept in the back for her "Mother Daughter yoga" time, wrapping it up in her dirty gym clothes she forgot to clean. "Should be safe till I get home," she said out loud to herself as she started the engine, happily heading back to the the store.
Be there in five. Meet me outside for the money and receipt. Drop mom off for her car after you guys close the shop. xo Mitchell
She texted her sister at the stoplight. Instantly she got a response.
You bringing coffee?
Mitchell rolled her eyes as she got closer to the antique store.
No. He's too intense, and I already have that with you. No coffee date, so go get your own.
She pulled into the parking lot and drove to the back of the store. She rolled down her window as she approached her sister. Lilly reached in the car for the bag in the passenger seat. "This has to be it! I always wondered what it was like to be this rich!" she joked in a manly tone, clearly mocking her step-dad.
"Now, Lilly, don't go spending all of your share in one place!" Mitchell mocked back. They both giggled together. "But seriously, tell mom to keep my portion for the shop. It's my quitting gift to her. And when you're done for the night remember to bring mom to my house so she can get her car. I'm still not feeling well and I want to go home."
"Of course," Lilly said as she carried the bag to the shop's back door, her face showing concern. "Get some sleep!" The door closed behind her as Mitchell drove off, headed home to find a safe place for her secret bonus.
