At 9 pm we take off.
I lean back in my Business-Class seat and try to focus on the vocabulary app. Every few seconds new words and phrases pop up and try to teach me some basic knowledge.
After ten words, the only thing I remember is how to say hello.
I´ve never been good with languages.
English is the only one I can talk fluently. At our high school, I had to study French and Latin but immediately forgot everything after graduating.
"Do you want to drink champagne?”
I almost jump out of my seat, when the stewardess appears next to me.
"Wh-what?”
"Do you want to drink our free champagne? It´s very delicious.” She smiles at me with perfectly white teeth. She´s Asian, probably Korean, and on her flight home. Her thin body looks even smaller in her white and blue uniform.
"No, thanks,” I try a smile. “But if you have some orange juice, I´ll take it.” “Of course, sir. Here you go.” She hands me a glass of orange juice and walks past me.
I continue practicing some words until I fall asleep.
I get woken up by the same stewardess, who asked me about the champagne.
"We´re about to land in Seoul, sir. Please bring your seat to an upright position for a safe landing.” She smiles while talking. It makes me feel a bit more comfortable about my upcoming job. How hard can it be to look after some kids?
I nod and switch the button on the side of the chair from lying to sitting position.
Just before we begin our descent over Seoul, I look at my wrist. The watch says 10 am.
While losing altitude, I look out of the window.
Everything is foggy and cloudy.
Just shadows and flickering lights below us.
But suddenly, as we break through the clouds, my eyes get the impression of a huge city.
