Crashing onto the couch, we both sighed. The weekend was long and draining, the alarm to go to school blaring next to us. Rolling off of the couch, we went upstairs. Settling on a red and black plaid schoolgirl skirt and black lace blouse, he just pulled on a black suit with a red tie. Meeting him at the door, my black school bag hung off of my shoulder. The car ride was quiet on the way to school, both of us about to fall asleep. Swaying slightly, he placed my head on his lap.
“You must be exhausted.” He yawned tiredly, kissing me on the forehead. “I know that I am. Damn those demons can party.” Nodding my head in agreement, a deep sigh tumbled from my lips. Rubbing the bridge of my nose, the tires squealed to a stop.
“You are telling me.” I groaned with exhaustion rich in my voice. “Let’s do this.” Sitting up, I opened the door. The whole school was gathered outside, the strength of me closing the door blew my hair back. Taking a deep breath, I opened the door again. Walking out, everyone called out my name. All the girls tried to touch me, Lily rolling her eyes as she walked in. Sighing deeply to myself, the girls nearly fainted as I walked past them. Glancing around most of them had black lips, and white hair. A snarl curled on my lips, this was simply too much. The first bell rang, everyone just staring at me. The first day was bad enough with Dean staring at me, but all of the eyes were killing me. Classes dragged by, lunch arriving just in time. Students fought to sit with us, my boots pounding down the hall to the music room. The new teacher stopped me, his gray hair flipped to one side. Red eyes glittered with excitement, his brown vest hugging his slender frame. A slight breeze ruffled his white dress shirt, his brown trousers grazing the floor.
“I am Maestro, the new music teacher.” He introduced himself proudly, bowing to me. “I am also your guys’ bodyguard. Your charm magic is off of the charts, your majesty. Would you like me to tell you how to turn it off?” The music room doors rattled violently, the students begging to get in. Cocking my brow, a sharp snarl curled on my lips.
“Is that even necessary to even ask!” I retorted sarcastically, pointing towards the door. “I can’t even get one minute alone.” Tilting his head, his wide grin was telling me that was relishing the fucking moment. A deep growl rumbled in my throat, his lips parting to speak.
“You just have to snap your fingers.” He said simply, my eyebrow twitching. “Just say charm off while doing it. I don’t see why you can’t just keep it, you c-” Ignoring him, a sly grin danced across my face. Freedom, sweet freedom was just a second away.
“Charm off!” I shouted joyfully, snapping my fingers. The students grumbled behind the door, wandering away. Opening the door cautiously, my head poked out. Childish joy shot through me, no one rushed at me. However the peace didn’t last long, Lily and Dan sprinting in my direction. The heel of my boot squeaked as Dean and I sprinted down the hall, bright sunlight blinding me. Trying to stay on the safe path, Lily knocked me off of it. Dan held Dean in a black devil’s chain, a holy force field preventing me getting back onto the safe space. Charging at me, her foot slammed into my chest, the sharp crack of my ribs breaking the still air. Struggling to my feet, black vines broke the ground. A hunter’s blade shimmered in her hands, thorny vines wrapping around her.
“I have orders to kill you for charming the entire school.” She barked hotly, slicing away at my vines. “You are just a monster who I was supposed to watch!” My heart shattered into pieces, Maestro was banging on the holy barrier. Rage boiled in my veins, a snarl curling on my lips. Flicking my wrists, vines snapped in her direction. Leaping into the air, her blade narrowly missed me.
“Don’t make me kill you?” I begged sadly, pulling out a black devil’s blade. “Did we not have any good memories together? Was I not your only friend in the shitty world? How can you throw that away for a stupid hunting club?” Cocking her head, blood spurted all over her face as her blade sank into my shoulder. Concrete cracked into pieces as my heel smashed her into the ground, my hand burning as I ripped her blade out of my shoulder. Tossing it to my side, she flicked another one in my direction. A needle full of black liquid shimmered in her hand, her face twitching the moment the needle sank into her neck. Panic gripped my mind, sheer terror widening my eyes. Her petite form twitched, her pale skin cracking. Wet noises mixed with cracks, her brother letting Dean go. Cries of agony burst from his lips, Lily shooting him one last smile. What once was a girl now was a writhing inky black blob. Sludgy blackness shot in my direction, the devil’s blade clanking to the ground. What kind of group would make someone do this?
“I have no choice but to die at this point.” A deep voice thundered from the blob, a single red eye catching my eye. “You are just going down with me.” Tears streamed down my cheek, my boots landing gracefully on the pavement. Sprinting away from her, a black scythe appeared in my eager palms. Black thorny vines curled up the handle, the weapon morphing several times. Settling on a black chain, another tentacle of black sludge shot towards me. Cracking the chains, vines crept up the black iron. Not knowing what spell to say, the sludge touched the skin. Burns covered my skin, the weapon changing back to the scythe. Dodging attack after attack, a spell finally came to mind.
“Vines of Hell combine with venom lilies.” I chanted through a thick coat of tears, my trembling fingers wiping away the tears. “Devour this monster in front of me!” Aiming at the red eye, the tip of my scythe pierced the tissue. A burst of energy blasted me back, a single red lily growing from the eye. The petals spreading over the body, vines holding it in place. Holding back more tears, I had to finish my spell.
“Final step!” I announced with defeat, tears crashing to the ground underneath my feet. “Ravage!” Looking away, the petals spun around. My former friend disintegrated into a pile of black ash, red petals fluttering into the blue sky above me. Storm clouds gathered above my head, a cry of agony exploding from my lips. Heavy raindrops pounded around me, the wind picking up. Dan rushed at me, salty drops of water flooding from his eyes. Dodging his attack, teeth fell out as my boot met his face. Pinning him to the ground, he clawed at my leg with a set of holy blade gloves. Hot blood poured down my legs, my mental anguish numbing the pain.
“You killed my sister, you stupid bitch!” He yelled out over the thunder, a bolt of lightning striking near me. “You will die.” Heavy boots marched up behind me, their father standing inches behind me. Dragging Dan to the safe space, he banged on the wall of vines I created.
“You were supposed to die too, Danny boy.” He groaned irritably, the wall crumbling in front of me. “You are a stupid stupid boy. How dare you defy me?” A scowl formed on his lips, his hands wrapping around Dan’s neck. The crack of his arm breaking shattered my eardrums, his fingers dropping Dan.
“No one deserves to die!” I shouted over the raging storm, slamming him out of the same zone. Stepping beyond the line, his hand grabbed my ankle. Dragging me on the ground, he tossed me into a nearby tree. He wasn’t even human, I thought to myself. Dean ran for me, Maestro holding him back. Struggling to stand, I leapt over him to the safe zone.
“I will be back to finish the job, and Dan you have been kicked out for not following orders.” He snapped coldly, the hunter’s mark fading away from his neck. “You take one step in my home, you will be shot upon first sight.” Dan collapsed to his knees, burying his face in his palms. Trying to touch his shoulder, sharp agony shot through my body as my ribs fused back together. Surprise widened my eyes, the fever didn’t set in this time. Cold sweat dripped off my skin, the rain subsiding. A fever colored my pale cheeks, the town car pulling up. Hot, I felt so hot. Dean scooped me up, the door opening.
“Are you coming Dan?” He asked kindly, shocking even himself. “You have nowhere to go, correct?” Stunned, Dan sat down across from us. Awkward silence sat between us, the black liquid vial trembling in his palm. Clearing my throat, cold shivers shot up my spine.
“I know that we have had our differences.” I wheezed, coughing up blood. “But the Dan I know wouldn’t have let that happen to his sister.” Shivering away, he looked out at the trees flashing by his window. Flipping me off, a wry grin grew on my face. Such behavior was like his old self, my heart warming up slightly.
“I suppose you are right.” He grumbled numbly, playing with the window. “What does that mean for the next steps?” Jealousy raged in Dean’s eyes, his finger drumming on my flat stomach. Pulling me close to his chest, he pressed his lips against mine hungrily. A soft blush rose to my cheeks, a dull shame dimming my eyes.
“We go after the Hunter’s Society of course.” He suggested calmly as if that was an easy solution. “They need to pay for their crimes.” Shaking my head, his devil showing through. Grabbing his hands, my claws dug into his palms. Yanking them back, he shot a death glare at me.
“How about we save as many as we can, and take out the leader?” I whispered barely loud enough for any to hear, Dan shifting uncomfortably. “How many people are in your current predicament?” Looking thoughtful, a grim look darkened his face.
“At least one hundred.” He informed us sadly, tears welling up in his eyes. “We are all forced to do what they say.” Understanding what he was saying, intense heat burned up inside of me. It felt as if my insides were melting. Exhaustion won, sweet slumber taking me to dreamland.
