As the ship hit the reef, it lurched forward. Beth lost his balance and fell of Jem and both of lost their balance. Under normal circumstances, it would have been quite embarrassing. But this time none of them paid and attention to it.

When they got up, Beth fumbled, her eyes filled with dread.

“Jeremey, what. OH! NO DAD” she exclaimed to herself and ran towards the deck.

As the ship sank, it brought dread into Jem’s heart. He had never been in such a situation before. He was paralyzed. He tried to move but his legs weren’t working. Dread clawed him down.

Suddenly with a huge jerk, the ship stopped sinking. It must have been caught in a rock, but the chances of this were very low. The sea, was pretty deep in that area.

Jem was woken out of his paralysis by Will’s voice.

“JEM, JEREMY WHERE ARE YOU?” he heard him screaming.

“OVER HERE” he shouted back.

Nil, Alex and Roy had also joined them. They could feel the panic spreading over the entire ship.

“WE ARE ALL GONNA DIE” screamed one of the passengers and ran past them.

“Let’s go and check out the bridge” suggested Roy. He had some experience in this matters as he had done basic training with his uncle, who was a retired navy officer.

When they reached the bridge, they heard the captain speaking to one of the crew members. “We got no sonar and radio contact, but there is no problem in either of them. I think there is some kind of static interference in this area.” His voice deeply concerned.

Jem didn’t know much about ships, but he knew enough to understand that they could neither contact the mainland or call for help nor did they have any idea about their surrounding.

“What is happening?” asked Jem, startling the captain who until then had not relized their presence.

“Kids, everything is fine. I will contact for help in no time” he replied, but the fear in his voice gave him away.

“Well everything is not all right and you got no sonar and radio. Which means you can’t call for help. We will have to abandon ship now.”  Said a voice behind Jem.

When he turned back he realized that it was professor Vera.

“Yes and go where?” replied the captain.

“There” said the Professor, pointing towards the horizon.

An island had just appeared in the horizon…
