CHAPTER 3

CHAPTER 3

Jul 30, 2022

After noticing Yuki hadn't gotten up, I hurried back to where he was.

I still didn’t even have my shoes on! What in the world!

He's still touching his jaw while still on the ground. He’s hissing under his breath.

"Oh my God. I'm sorry! I didn't know it was you! " I frantically said as I kneeled down to where he was. I tossed my bag somewhere so I could check on him better.

What if my punch was too strong?

I held him to see if I broke something on his face.

I can't afford it if his nose gets broken. It's too expensive!  What if he dislocated his jaw?!

He even fell to the rocky ground!

My father and I have many debts to pay already. I won’t be able to afford this if something bad happens to him!

I didn’t know I had strong power like that.

I was too busy checking him, turning his face to the left and right slightly, but was stopped midway when Yuki held my right arm.

I looked at his hand which was still wet, and noticed that some of his veins were protruding. How can a strong hand like that hold an arm softly?

I looked back at him.

He is staring at me.

His dark colored eyes which are like a night sky became a lighter shade of brown when they got hit by the setting sun.

They look mysterious and deep.

They say every person has their own story to tell. In this world with the same morning and evening, it becomes different when we experience different circumstances. Mornings and evenings become different depending on how our days will go by.

Behind Yuki’s eyes, I wonder how many secrets and different situations he has witnessed.

Is he like me?

Maybe not. He looks like a man who is from a well-off family. For sure, he only saw beautiful things this life could offer.

I took a glance at his lips accidentally and noticed that his mouth was slightly open.

"Don't worry, I'm fine." His soft voice, like almost a whisper, made me go back to my senses.

As if I’m electrocuted, I quickly removed his hand and stood up.

I removed some sand from my knees and fixed my school uniform before clearing my throat to lessen the awkwardness.

"I'll just buy ice."

I said and quickly walked away without looking back.

That was weird.

I went to the hut and put my shoes on before I proceeded to walk away.

When I was slightly far away from his position, I looked back to see what he was doing.

Yuki is already sitting on the ground and he's touching his jaw once again.

I grimaced looking at him. It looks painful.

Where is the store again?

Damn. It's still outside of this river. I still need to walk for several minutes.

It’s not bad either. I will just enjoy the scenery and forget what happened a while ago.

After ten minutes of walking, I’m back where Yuki was, but he's not there anymore.

I wonder where he went.

Did he leave already?

"Yuki?"

"Here!" I turned around when I heard Yuki shout from the nipa hut far from where my things are.

He’s already wearing a white shirt and black shorts. His towel is on his neck.

He’s prepared. I wonder if he has afternoon classes every Friday.

It looks like he’s not even at the campus the whole afternoon based on what he’s doing today.

Not that I’m curious...

Just 5 percent.

I walked to where he was and gave him the ice I bought.

It’s an ice you buy in sari-sari stores. It’s only 5 pesos ($0.090), but it’s big. Well.... He can just crack the ice to make it smaller and wrap it in a face towel or something. Or he can just put the whole thing on his face. It will go numb without a doubt.

At least, I did my part.

"Thanks." Yuki said with a little smile.

His cheek is already red. Will it bruise?

"Are you sure you’re fine? No broken bone or something else? " I asked while facing him.

"Don’t worry, nothing broke. You just punched hard. " He chuckled and turned around.

He’s looking for something in his bag.

"I just made sure you’re not harmed. I don’t want to spend money on you. I’ll go broke if ever your nose breaks or if your jaw gets dislocated! " Yuki chortled when he heard what I said.

I scratched the tip of my nose and rolled my eyes.

"If there’s nothing more, I’ll go home now. Just put that ice on your cheek. I’m sorry again. "

I turned around and was about to go outside the nipa hut when he stopped me from going out.

"Can you stay longer? Even for five more minutes? "

Yuki is now sitting on the bamboo chair and he’s already holding the ice covered with a face towel on his cheek.

He pointed to the seat near him.

"What am I going to do here? Just sit? " I curiously asked.

"We can talk? Watch the sunset? Listen to the wind and water? "

He shrugged and smiled a little.

"You want to swim?" He added after then looked at the river behind me.

Why does he want me to stay badly? He sure is such a "feeling close" type of guy.

Without doubt, he’s an extrovert.

I licked my now dried lips and thought of the things I'll do at home but there's none.

If I go home, I will be inside my room the whole time and that’s not what I’ve planned for the rest of my day. My father left a message earlier saying he wouldn’t be back until Monday because of the work he's been bragging about since yesterday.

Whatever makes him stop drinking, it’s fine. But I just hope the work he’s talking about is a legit one. I don’t want another headache.

Okay, maybe it’s not bad to keep Yuki some company. He looks like a harmless one too.

"Uh, five minutes is not bad. Fine. I’ll just sit here. Do whatever you want in your life."

I sit on the left side, slightly far away from Yuki.

The nipa hut was then filled with silence. All you can hear is the sound of water flowing and the distant tweeting of some local birds from afar.

What now?

To lessen the awkwardness, I opened my bag and took out my drawing notebook, and my pencil case where I keep my set of pencils. I’ll just draw the scenery in front of me until sunset.

It’s better to do that than just sit here and  stare into nothingness.

"You draw?" I glanced at Yuki and nodded a little before looking at the surroundings.

Where should I start?

"Can you draw me too?" I frowned without giving him a glance and shook my head, dismissing him right away.

"Nope."

I don’t draw people. It’s hard.

I can't... I can’t anymore.

HERE'S A GIFT FOR YOU GUYS. THIS IS YUKI BTW. HAHA. I SPENT 5 HRS DRAWING HIM! I HOPE YOU LIKE THIS! HAHA

P.S I hope you can also recommend my story if you like Placebo! haha<3

They say that if you have never known loneliness, you will never understand what happiness is like. Life will test us and put a lot on our plates and whenever I think everything is overwhelming and I see no end in my suffering, I start to feel being inside an illusion once again. Like a placebo who dupes people by the artificial treatment it offers to make someone feel better. It had always been that way until one day, you showed up and everything gradually changed.
