-Kate's pov-

I sit up more in my hospital bed, as Ethan passes me Liem after hearing a knock at the door. I'm now holding Liem and Matthew. They're so precious, it reminds me of when Pey was just born. Ethan opens the door, and we were expecting Ethan's mom and Pey.

" Congratulations guys!" Justin, Lia and Sienna all said in sync.

"Thank you guys" Ethan said, greeting them. They then Lia and Sienna walked over towards me.

"Thank you guys, I really appreciate the visit." I said, holding the twins. Lia and Sienna both gave me a hug, then they each grabbed a baby. Lia grabbed Matthew, and Sienna grabbed Liem. They just walked around the room, holding and playing with the twins. Justin walked over to me, handing me a bag. I opened it up, and he had gotten me some Starbucks and some Burger King on the way here.

"I hope you like it. I thought you would be hungry after all you did" Justin said, smiling.

"Thank you, I really appreciate it, I really am hungry and I'm definitely going to enjoy this." I then began to dig around the Burger King bag, and started eating the Whopper, along with the fries. After I finished the food, I started to drink the Mocha Frappee Justin had gotten me. After an hour of being here, Justin, Lia and Sienna all left. Not much later, Mama Laney and Pey show up, to meet the babies. Pey runs over to us, "Daddy Up" she says, putting her arms up. Ethan picked her up, and she looked at her brothers, with so much happiness. "Can I hold them?" Pey asked.

"Yes baby, you can, just go sit in that chair over there. Then, daddy will hand you your brothers." I said excited, finally happy for Pey to meet her brothers. Ethan grabs Matthew, and gently sets him on her lap. His mom is standing next to her, for supervision. He then walks over and grabs Liem, then sets him on her lap as well.

"Alright, everyone in for a picture!" Mama Laney insisted. I got up out of bed, which wasn't much fun. But, she insisted we take a photo. Ethan and I both get on a side of Pey and the boys. Mama walks back a little bit and aims her phone at us, trying to get it to focus.

"Perfect, this is the best photo, I love this so much!!" Mama smiled so big. She walks over and shows us, and she was right, it was the best photo. Pey was smiling so big, happy to finally be meeting her brothers. Mama Lanet then sat in the other chair, and Ethan and I both placed a baby on her lap.

"Alright, now I need a picture with me and all my grandkids. Get over her Pey" Mama said, excited and smiley. Pey goes over and stands next to mama. I took such a beautiful picture of them.

"This picture is definitely getting framed, along with the other one mama took." I smiled and passed the phone to mama.

"From this moment forward, always and forever" Ethan said , Smiling making a group hug. I enjoyed every bit of it.

* 5 Months Later*

For the past few days, Matthew hasn't really been himself. But Liem, he is a wild child. And I love all my babies, including Pey, equally. But, today, I'm a little more concerned about Matthew. He's been throwing up all morning, and still is. He was also feeling a little warm, so I took his temp. His temp was 101.2, I yelled for Ethan to get Liem and Pey ready to go to mama Laney's house, and that we're taking Matthew to the hospital. He ran into the room.

"Is everything okay?" Ethan asked out of breath.

"No, he has a fever of 101.2 and he's also been throwing up all morning." I started getting Matthew ready to go to the hospital. Ethan ran to get Liem and Pey ready. As we were getting ready, I sent mama a text letting her know what was happening and that we were on our way. We finally leave and get Pey and Liem to Mamas, then we drive to the hospital. We sat in the waiting room for about 2 hours, then we were finally called back to a room, then waited about another 40 minutes for Dr. We heard a knock, and the curtain began to slowly move, that basically all the privacy there was. But, he finally made it. That is all I could think.

"Hello, I'm Dr.Patterson nice to meet you." he reaches his hand out to shake our hands.. "So what's going on with this little guy?"

"Well, he hasn't really been eating all that much, he's been acting a little off. And before we left, he had a fever of 101.2. And all morning today, he's been throwing up. He just seems so weak, he has a twin brother and they are 5 months old and Liem is already rolling over, smiling or laughing, and grabbing things. And we noticed, Matthew won't roll over, or try to grab things and would smile or laugh once in awhile. I just feel like something is wrong." I nervously explained to Dr.

"Alright, we're going to do some blood work, and some tests. He does still have a fever, we'll give him some Tylonal for the fever. And we'll test for anything that could be causing this and give him an IV, for hydration, then once the results come in we'll see from there what the next step will be." The Dr takes Matthew's blood, and he doesn't make a movement when the Dr sticks him with the needle.

"He's tough, just like his dad," Ethan said.

"Um, more like his mom." I said, looking over at Ethan. The Dr finishes up and walks out, closing the curtain.

"What is that supposed to mean?" Ethan said with a smirk.

"It means he's not like his dad when it comes to shots. Last week when you got your shots you cried like a baby."

"Okay now that's not fair, she didn't count to 3." I just started laughing.

* 6 hours later *

FINALLY, there's a slight knock, then the curtain slowly opens, it was the doctor holding his clipboard. "So I have the results back from Matthew's blood work and he has this rare disease called, Mitochondrial. It is very rare. There are fewer than 20,000 US cases per year."

"I've never heard of that before" Ethan said, worried, "What is Mitochondrial?"

"It is a common factor among mitochondrial diseases in which the mitochondria are unable to completely burn food and oxygen to generate energy, which is essential for normal cell function. It can often be inherited.

Symptoms might include poor growth, developmental delays, and muscle weakness.

There's no cure for this, but physical therapy and medication can manage the symptoms." The doctor explained, very well for us.

"Could he die from this?" Ethan asked, holding back tears.

"A small study in children with mitochondrial disease examined the patient records of 221 children with mitochondrial disease. Of these, 14% died three to nine years after diagnosis. Five patients lived less than three years, and three patients lived longer than nine years." The doctor explained.

"So, my baby boy is going to die?" I said, as I began to ball my eyes out as I was holding Matthew. Ethan began to hug me and Matthew, he then began to cry. I couldn't believe what was happening, the news that I had received was something I was not expecting at all.

"Dr" Ethan said with sadness in his voice. "So, with what you said, you're saying, there's a chance he could die before three.

"Yes there's that chance, but there haven't been many cases of that many younger than three. So, I'm not saying that it will happen before three, but, there is a small chance it could." The Dr said.

"I can't believe this" Ethan looked at me and Matthew and began to hug us again.

"This is the worst news we could've gotten. I never thought I'd hear anything along the lines, your baby is going to die." I began to ball my eyes out and hug Matthew.
