Toby
I sure hope that Elder Rose knows what she is doing. I don’t really feel comfortable staying at Elder Rose’s place. She seems nice but for some reason she gives me a bad feeling. However, it is too late now. Roy is already laying down beside me. The spare room only had one bed and Roy told me that since the mattress was so large that there was no point on one of us sleeping on the floor.
I lay down beside Roy and pull the covers up past my abdomen. I look over at Roy, his face weary and in deep thought. He snaps out of his daze and looks over at me. I quickly look at the ceiling hoping he didn’t catch me staring.
“Toby?”
“Mm?” Keep calm, Toby. He didn’t notice.
“Do you think Elder Rose will be able to help?”
“Well, to be honest with you Roy, I have a bad feeling about Elder Rose. I’m not sure why, but my gut is just telling me something isn’t right. But, even considering that, I think we should give her a shot.”
“But what if she can’t?”
“Then you can move in with me. You know what? We’ll run away together, far away. Where they can’t reach us.”
“Run away? But what about your family?”
“You come first, don’t forget that, ok?”
“Okie.”
He blows out the white bedside candle and rolls over.
“Night, Roy.”
“Night, Toby.”
Morning came and I woke to the sound of whistling wind. I open my eyes and take a deep morning breath. I then notice I feel pressure around me. I look down and see that Roy cuddled himself against me with his arm around me. I feel my face get hot and I feel like my head is gonna explode. His dirty blond hair a mess and soft hazelnut eyes closed, lost in wonderland. He mumbles for a second and his eyes slowly open sitting in a blank daze for a second.
Realization hits him and he jumps up quickly. “S-s-s….Sorry.”
I ruffle his hair. “It’s okie. You must’ve gotten cold, that’s all. I didn’t mind.”
“Oh okie.” He gives me a slight smile and his face lightens up.
I stand up and he does too. We both fix our side of the bed and then head out the door and into the main room. “Looks like Elder Rose left already.”
“Probably had some errands to run or someone else to help.”
“Yea, you are probably right.”
“Hey, Toby?”
“Mm?”
“I’m scared…to go back home. I mean, what if….”
“Don’t worry, alright. Everything will be fine. Besides, even if things don’t turn out how we planned we still always have each other.”
“Yeah. Alright. I’ll go, but you gotta come with me.”
“Fine by me, I was planning on it.”
Roy smiles at me and then tosses me my shoes as he throws his on. I walk beside him and ruffle his hair trying to reassure him that it’s all gonna be alright. He nods at me and opens the door. Staring at the outside I take his hand and lead him outside, shutting the door behind us. He takes a deep breath and clenches my hand as we walk across the bridge. I look over at him and see his face suddenly full of reassurance and confidence. I just hope that I didn’t give him false hope.
