Eli's POV
“About last night-” Milo started the next morning over the delicious breakfast he had cooked for us, as per usual. Which is exactly how I had hoped things would stay until he opened his stupid mouth.
“I don’t want to talk about it. I’m sorry about the whole Jason thing, ok. He’s my friend though and I can’t promise to stop talking to him,” I replied quickly, brushing off the entire situation.
“But what about-”
I cut him off again, trying to avoid the whole kiss thing as much possible. “We’re not talking about it. Nothing happened, alright?”
Finally defeated, he decided to change the subject. “Alright. By the way, I was talking with Sare the other night and she doesn’t think you like her for some reason.”
“Oh ya?” I said, putting butter on my toast.
“Ya.”
I didn’t know what to say so I quickly shoved the toast into my mouth.
“Why does she think that?” I asked, eventually breaking the awkward silence.
“She thinks you’re trying to avoid her or something, I guess you ignore her?” He phrased it as a question, as if he didn’t think what his own girlfriend was saying was true.
“Ya I guess… I don’t know she’s my best friend’s girlfriend,” The words still felt bitter in my mouth, but seemed to make him happy after all of the recent fighting between us. I continued, “I guess things can be a little awkward sometimes. It’s not like you’re too chummy with the guys I sleep with either…” I replied.
“She’s my girlfriend, it’s a little different. But I get it. Just… try to be nice to her, okay?” He smiled and punched my shoulder lightly.
God I love his smile, it feels like forever since I’ve seen it.
“Sure but just so you know, you have terrible taste in women. Honestly, I don’t get great vibes from Sare, but I’ll try.” I said reluctantly. To be honest, Sara was the best of all of Milo’s ex-girlfriends. I always thought she was good for him. But I couldn’t help thinking that maybe I would have been better.
“Nah man, she’s great,” He looked dreamily off into the distance. Gross.
As if living with your best friend who you were hopelessly in love with wasn’t bad enough, constantly hearing him talk about how much he loved his amazing girlfriend was even worse.
“I don’t know, I feel like there’s better options.” I said, not paying attention to what I was saying.
“Oh ya? Like who?” He scoffed.
“Like me…” I mumbled.
He stared at me for a moment. “Never gonna happen man,” He said swiftly, patting my shoulder, as if last night had never happened.
Ha, of course. It’s not like it was a surprising response, I knew he didn’t like me. Last night was just a drunken fluke, it’s not like he liked guys anyway.
“Well I have to head to class, see ya.” And he was gone.
