I get done in the bathroom and head back to the bedroom, almost running into Lennon in the process.
I back up. He looks up at me, “What?”
I blink, “Is Heath awake?”
He shrugs, “He was, but he laid back down”
I nod.
“I’m gonna make something to eat,” He says matter of factly.
I smile and nod. He walks past me out the hall.
I open the door to our room, peeking in to see Heath sitting up in bed. I step in. He looks at me bleary-eyed.
I walk over to him. Sitting on the bed too. “Did you talk to Len?”
He freezes.
Weird?..
“No…” He mumbles.
I look at his face, “remember when we tried to run away?”
He frowns, “Yeah, Daren and Mom got really mad at me…”
I pat his shoulder, “Oh, come on. Not as mad as they got at me.”
He purses his lips, “True.”
“Man, I kinda miss the old days,” I sigh and fall back onto the bed, “Back when we hung out just us two day after day.”
He looks down, “Mhmm…”
I grab his hand and give it a squeeze, “Sometimes I wish I could’ve married you instead of Lennon.”
Shit that came out wrong. His hand stiffens in mine and pulls away.
“I’m not eighteen yet,” he murmurs.
I facepalm, “I know, ugh, I just like the idea of spending the rest of my life with you.”
“Rings look ugly on my fingers,” He says.
Oh, my god. No. I smack my forehead, “I never said you had to wear a ring. I was just thinking out loud.”
He blinks, “Weddings stress me out.”
I sigh exasperated, “we’re not having a wedding.”
