There is a practice in the Heavenly Realm called First Blood - it is a rite performed to establish bonds through the use of blood. It's a practice exclusive to the higher beings who have a peculiar way of procreation.
Unlike in the human realm, where the usual male and female give birth to life through intercourse, the creatures from the higher realm can create their own children by just thinking about it. Yes, an idea or the desire to multiply is enough to trigger childbirth to which the parent would lay eggs that will serve as the vessels of their offspring.
However, the laid eggs won't simply hatch in this way. It still needed something to trigger its growth, another parent gene that would be the source of its lifeblood.
The way how the higher beings reproduce might look redundant since it still equates to needing another parent. But the thing about this self-reproduction is that the offspring would retain ninety-nine percent of the features of the parent who laid it. The child will also unconditionally follow the main parent, giving loyalty and insurance on the continuation of the family.
The remaining one percent is on the lifeblood contributed by the other parent.
Usually, the higher beings would do an exchange to make the eggs hatch. The one percent contribution wasn't really that important since the main gene would suppress the gene of the lifeblood, and the exchange would benefit both parties. That's why most of the higher beings were one-percent siblings.
Though, there would always be exceptions.
Creatures like the Great Dragon Emperor who is the Supreme god of the Heavenly Realm can only lay eggs once in a thousand years. And the egg will not hatch easily. Its high profile and pure bloodline did not allow it to accept a normal lifeblood gene.
None of the higher beings could fulfill the requirement since aside from the lifeblood, the off-springs of the Great Dragon Emperor also have to consume a soul force. A soul force is the main source of life, which is the central point of existence. Consuming the soul force is equal to eating the life of the individual and losing it means death.
Nobody wanted to sacrifice their life in exchange for another life.
The fascinating thing about the Dragon Emperor's egg is its innate gluttony. Once it awakens, the egg has to continuously consume both the soul force and the lifeblood until the time it hatches. If lifeblood is given but there is not enough soul force, the egg will continue sleeping until someone could supply it with soul force again, and vice versa.
The egg will only establish the bone of the First Blood on the individual who had managed to supply both requirements. And Lang Yuan just did it on his first try.
Five years ago, the Great Dragon Emperor laid his egg. The egg, being born out of supreme nobility, was sent to the human realm for the purpose of awakening it. As to why the emperor tossed his potential offspring to a lower realm, it is because humans tend to break the limits set by fate.
Humans were wise and greedy creatures. And it is these traits that allowed them to rise amongst the fallen. Many times, in history, many humans were able to cross the threshold between worlds so there's no wonder that amongst the billion of humans, one should be able to hatch the egg.
The Five main empires fought for the possession of the egg.
Since the power of a dragon emperor is cumbersome, everyone wanted to get it. Even though in the end the dragon child might follow its father emperor to the Heavenly Realm, having relations with the higher being won't be bad. The Dragon Emperor also gave an ultimatum of gifting the best treasures to the people who could hatch his egg.
The five empires have their own powerhouses, each carrying their ways of staying at the top. Though, in the recent century, everyone had fallen into a stalemate. If anyone from these powerhouses could gain support from a dragon emperor, one can easily imagine how the world will shift.
The egg was retrieved by the YingLan Sect under the Empire of Qian. The egg was thrown randomly in some mountain and its location was reported to all the sects a month ago, including the minority and the independent sects. It happens that it was in one of the mountain ranges of the Qian Empire, where the lofty mountains owned by the YingLan sect are located. The recent events would be the sect finding the egg and transporting it into their sect.
It was during this time that Lang Yuan transmigrated from modern society.
The catapulted glass casket flew quite a distance. They remained flying up in the sky till dusk before they landed on soft ground. The leaves from the branches supported the fall and the whole object slid down. Lang Yuan who felt nauseous from the trip just fell asleep in the middle and just woke up the next day when the glass casket is finally on the ground.
Covered by the silk, Lang Yuan squinted his eyes when a bright light came to bathe his face. His brows slowly lifted up, seeing only portions from the blue sky in between the patches left unhidden by the branches and leaves of the trees.
He remained unmoved, looking lazily up before taking in that he is still probably dreaming, and turned around to continue sleeping. Just then, he felt a large warm round object sitting beside him.
This round object is also wrapped around by the same silk and seems to be tilted unto his side. Lang Yuan only needed a few glances to know what it was. Memories from yesterday quickly flooded his consciousness as he quickly rolled away from the egg.
Egg: ...
Lang Yuan carefully stared at the egg. It was looking a lot different from yesterday, and maybe a bit bigger. The red blots are no longer there, instead, the egg looks much more like a chicken egg, brownish with a very smooth surface. It's also glowing a bit, emitting a warm feeling from the inside.
