Working on "The Logbook" is already hitting a few snags, and I need someone's help! I'm having a difficult time separating my memories of the original version and edits from what I'm trying to accomplish now. I'm not even sure how to begin it.
This entire part of the bigger series is the logbook of the girl who becomes the chieftain of her own ship and crew. Think of it as a diary because for the most part, that's what it is. I'm struggling with how much of it should be in her first person point-of-view.
The first version was just a story of her life. I turned it into her journal/logbook during the third edit. At that point, the entire thing was from her perspective. It made certain scenes difficult because how would she know what's happening elsewhere that was important for the reader to know? I came up with a clever idea for that, but looking at it with fresh eyes, it may seem forced. Like an overly-convenient plot device or lazy writing. If I create chapters that are simply the story and not part of the logbook, I'm afraid it will remove the reader from the atmosphere of someone reading this girl's journal.
I am so caught up on wanting it one way but trying to accept it isn't the best way that I can't make up my mind. I can't tell which way is better.
Would any of you like to be a beta reader for me? This would mean helping with my decision making as a reader with no prior knowledge of this story. You probably won't get spoilers. I'll only run ideas by you and let you read paragraphs and chapters as I come to them to get your input.
i.e.: Journal or normal writing? Confusing language/situation or clear to understand? etc...
If anything, you'd get to read before anyone else and receive credit for helping me. It wouldn't be editing. Just helping me see it from a reader's eyes.
If I turn it into a hardcopy novel (which I'm planning on with all my novels as Ko-fi and Patreon perks), you'd get one as a gift. I'm not really a popular writer, and Tapas will likely never pay me for any of this, so you won't get fame and fortune HAHA. Just a lot of love and gratitude from me and some items I'm working on for merch for all my novels (more about that in a later post).
If you'd be interested in helping me, please comment here or leave me a private message on my Tapas account wall.
Welcome to my occasional chatter. Like the little bees and butterflies and birds that have visited my gardens, you are invited to "listen" to my spontaneous pondering, occasional rants, joyful events, and random gibberish. Feel free to add your own experiences to the topics in the comments.
Is this me procrastinating again? HAHA! We all need breaks when creating becomes somewhat of a chore.
My mind doesn't stop creating, especially when I try to sleep or meditate to calm it. Those efforts seem to increase the speeding train in my head all the more. I have found that speaking on other topics and sharing current feelings not related to my books helps to at least clear my mind enough to slow down the thoughts and give a bit of peace.
Since this is a slice of life, there is no set end. It's for as long as I'm here on Tapas and will update when I feel the need to share what's going on in my world. :)
